Suggestion in using the four ramp technique: Put yourself in four-wheel drive!
On my old 4Runner, an SR5 2WD, the front wheels would just push the ramp along. There was nothing grabbing and pulling the ramp under the wheel with the rubber skid pad that is underneath the Rhino Ramps.
How sweet and clear information. Very easy to understand.
Excellent video, thank you! Thank you for posting the torque specs as well.

I came over here after trying to comprehend the A Car Care Nut Channel's generic explanation. Thank you. I feel a lot more comfortable taking this on... This 20 TRD Off-Road is my first part-time 4WD. Whew!

Walmart currently (May 2024) sells a, Made in USA, 1 gallon pump sprayer for $10 that makes the perfect tool for filling 4x4 components (front & rear diff, transfer case) with gear oil. Also, don't forget to do maintenance on the two most overlooked parts of maintenance - grease up those fitting on the drive shaft & Universal joints while you have your 4x4 in the air and change out your engine PCV valve.
Appears he lives in the rust belt.
Great video, btw!!
Yes that is true. Winters definitely take their toll on the undercarriages of vehicles up here. Thanks for the compliment and for watching! Be sure to check out my other 4Runner maintenance videos if you are interested! Thank you!
Slippery Pete makes an 8cc fluid transfer pump sold on Amazon. There’s two sizes a larger and one for the smaller opening qrt bottles like valvoline and redline, which pump 8cc per stroke so it makes fluid changes a lot faster and easier with the third-hand helper that holds itself onto the internal threads as you’re pumping. Good stuff overall. Finishing my 21 4Runner TRD ORP this morning with the front diff. Did the rear and transfer case yesterday afternoon. Extremely easy job and no excuse not to do it. I’m at 41,700 miles. I try to stay around 30k but, well, life 🤷♂️ anyways, appreciate the video.
God bless~

I used this video this evening, thanks so much for quality content!
Looking like it's time for fluid film on that, well everything that's rusted!
Great vid. Thanks for the detail and torque specs too.

@@mikimiki195 thank you!
Thank you for the Nice and detailed video..❤️ Please do more videos about Toyota 4runner..
ALWAYS REMOVE THE FILL PLUG FIRST! You don’t want to drain fluid and later find that you can’t get the full plug out!
Transfer pump will help a lot with filling. They’re only about $10 at HF
At 1:15 that’s exactly why I cracked it loose.
@@5MinuteFixit yes you did. Thanks for the awesome vid.
@@LiquidXiron thanks for watching!
Dude. Time for anti seize on those skid plate bolts. A whole lot of fluid film would help that frame rust...
Such a calm voice. You should incorporate ASMR in your fix-it vids. 😘

Great video. Any plan to do a video for the transmission fluid change?
Great video, question…. Should I use jack stands in the front, refill the fluid and spin the tires, then add more?
Nice video. Thank you.

great video, do you know if this is the same process on the 4th gen? I have a 2007 and would love to do this on my own. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Great tutorial! Do you know where I can get a soft or hard copy of a repair manual for 5 Gen 4Runner?
A what interval is worth it to do this?30,60k miles?
Thanks for the video. Quick question: when (miles) this should be done in a 4Runner limited that don’t do off road at all?
I do mine 2x’s a year, it’s pretty easy and I only take my 4Runner off road a handful of times a year. Hopefully this helps, thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank You!
A $5 cheap pump would make this easier.
My Question? how Many miles YouChange oil thanks
I believe it is recommended at 30k miles.
Hello 5 min fix. Thank you for doing this video. Can you send me a link on the 10mm hex your using or the allen wrench you used for loosening the phil plug and drain plug & pls. send me a link on the spray your using after filling up the plugs. I guess it removes the oil mark then when it drys it means no leak. Thank you!
Here is the link for the 10mm hex: amzn.to/3lQHACA

Thank you for watching hopefully this helps!
Where did you get those 4 ramps??
Can this be done without putting it on ramps?
Yes it can just try to make the vehicle as level as possible. Thank you for watching, please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
How was that crush washer kit? Is it just as good as OEM washers?
Yes it is a good kit, I haven't had any issues with them at all. Thank you for watching!
Hi. Can you send me a link on the ramp you used? Thank you

How about transfer and rear fluid change?

I ran out of 75w85 do you think it’ll be ok to fill the rest 75w90?
I would say so if it is only a very small amount. Thank you for watching!
Any issues after the Diff oil change, like bearings going out? My 97 4runner has 250k and wondering if I should do it.
No issue for me but my 4Runner only has roughy 90k. If you decide to do it let us know how it goes. Thank you for watching!
definitely change out that fluid in the Diff. If you haven't ever changed out the transmission fluid, then I would leave the transmission alone.
✌👌👍
Under carriage is pretty rusty. Where do u live?
I live in the Northeast, good ol’ road salt.

Isn't this a Limited with the fixed center diff? Completely different trans setup than all the other 5th Gens my man..should change your video title so noone gets confused!
The only one confused is you sir.
)
ALWAYS remove the fill plug first...because if you drain the fluid first and the fill plug is stuck/stripped or breaks, you'll be calling a flatbed to get the vehicle to a shop.
That’s exactly the reason why I loosened it first at 1:12 Thanks for watching!
Ahhh I see now, I must have skipped ahead lol Great video
Thanks! I appreciate it!
