For my short-haired folks who want to try the buns: You can do it! But here's my advice, try with only one finger instead of four, and use smaller portions of hair instead of your whole hair.
If this doesn't work, there are also buns for shorter hair like the disc bun and cinnamon bun. Nautilus isn't always the easiest short hair bun but there are options!
I love your "sailor moon" hair do's!!... especially appreciate that "greasy" hair is a good thing on your channel.... finally someone is shining the light on how to really love and care for your hair and scalp, as naturally, as possible....bummer there was no "shouty shepherd" in this video though(lol)....
My hair looked exactly like yours! Only it is jet black. I hated it as a child unfortunately and when i had the opportunity i chopped it into a pixie. Now that im older i see how certain trends that GenZ embrace were the exact features i was born with. Bushy thick eyebrows, wavy long hair, tomboyish androgynous features and clothing. I was trying to hard to embrace the Kim K look and failed miserably. Im kinda glad GenZ made me love my actual real features and ive been letting my crazy brows grow out and letting my real essence to shine out!
I agree with you, Anna, full updos are cute for photoshoots and peaceful events, but, for chores and moving around, any hair long enough to get in my face needs to be secured back somehow. Especially, if my hair was your length (knees?)
Fellow LHC'er here. I'm now at TBL and you inspired me to go for knee-length hair in the future! I wonder the circumference of your hair is ii/iii or iii (or the exact cm/inch) I love the fifth style the most, especially after you looped the accent braids over your space buns and left the waves hanging there. That's phenomenonal. PS, other readers, if you have hip-length+ hair, the nautilus bun can stay quite secure without a stick.
Space buns are such a fun cute trend. I first noticed them around 2013 but I know they've been around longer than that. Great video, thanks for posting!
Me too, I think maybe the fashionable position of the space buns is slightly more forward now, I remember the buns being a bit closer to the crown of the head around 2013-ish
As a Gen Z’er with tailbone-length hair, thanks! I usually wear a variation on your daily crown braid or a braided lazy wrap bun, but I love all your hairstyles!!! 🌺🌸🌷
All so freaking cute! My hair is almost to my butt (hopefully someday as long as yours!) but I’ve never been able to get a Nautilus to stay up but I’m going to try again using your tips. I love your loose wavy version especially. Thanks for the space bun inspo!
As somebody probably over twice your age with short, very straight and fine hair (and hardly any grey!) I couldn’t really relate any less…but I absolutely love watching you! Your hair is amazing!
The last one is absolutely adorable! But half-ups drive me crazy too (especially during hot summers), so I would bun the back. But the inspiration is gold.
I love these styles!!! I just put my hair up in two space buns and it looks so cute and fun!! Your explanation on how to do the nautilus buns was really clear and helpful! Thank you!
I love the Nautilus bun technique!! I'm definitely going to incorporate that into my hairstyles, even though my hair is much shorter than yours. These were all so pretty!
Thiiiiis is why I subbed a few months ago!!!! Have been waiting for long hairstyles- I have had floor-length hair all my life and always go with a bun-I've never been able to find long hairstyles I can work in! THANK YOU AND MAKE MORE!!!!
I love ALL of these hairstyles! I love the simple bun. Feels way more secure than just twisting up and adding a hair stick. My hair always ends up trying to fall loose. I also love that I can use the same technique for space buns! I always struggle by trying to put them in two ponytails, then braid them, and then twist around to make buns. They always end up wonky. This is so much easier and they turn out looking so much fuller! Thanks for sharing!
These hairstyles looks gorgeous. Loving your style and the mix of new and old! It's an inspiration. However I can only look on in admiration because my hair is short and thin and doesn't look good past my shoulders x') The only thing I started doing recently is fearlessly dying my hair in all kinds of colors, lol.
I figured out the "space bun"! I can't quite figure how to get them to sort of "match", but, it's a comfy snug updo that keeps me free from the nasty plastic clips.
I had to have my long hair chopped off when I was ill and I hate it short. It's growing fast again, but it took 3 years to get to my waist 😭 But I've gone through the Johnny Depp Mad Hatter stage, the Wolverine X-men stage, Albert Einstein stage and now it is just able to go into a mini ponytail. I'd probably wear the first one because working and long hair doesn't mix, but I loved your 3rd one - looked like teddy bear ears - so darned cute! xx
I love your beautiful grey hair and the new fun hairstyles you are trying... But I am "obsessed" with how awesome your eyeliner is looking! The white accent is perfection.
My wavy hair lives in a loose braid tied off with some yarn finger-loop braiding that I work into the braid for a few inches before the end. Loose hair in my face or getting caught in things while I'm trying to work, just no... Now that I know how to make a nautilus bun I want to try it... but you've still got more hair on 1/4 of your head than I do on my whole head (confirmed when you braided it)! it's longer than it's ever been before (yay, quitting shampoo) and the longest bits in the back just reach my "natural" waist (which is in no way where I ever want a waistband on anything ever). But since up and back is where I take it for its twice yearly split ends trim (it ensures the front is long enough to stay braided), it should at least be relatively consistently thick at that angle. I'm firmly GenX and was browbeaten into changing my centre-part to a side-part something like fifteen or twenty years ago, but it turns out my hair doesn't really care where the part is, as long as there is one, and if I don't put in a part, it will take care of matters itself... Someone also insisted I try straightening my hair. And thus I learned, wavy is the normal for me, straightening it just made it all limp but yet still frizzy at the same time.
You have given me so much confidence to stop dying my gray hair. I’ve had hair almost as long as yours. But over the past seven years I’ve gotten my hair dyed to cover the grays, and the damage has caused me to lose half my length! You look beautiful and youthful even with the gray. I think I’ll give it a shot.
I wish your impression of Gen Z from TikTok was the vibe on my college campus.. mostly I see middle part straight hair (fine, but a bit boring) or the worst bun I've ever seen in my life. Not a poorly constructed bun, but one that looks like they've sculpted an actual poop emoji on the very top of their head. I wish there were this many space buns!!
Anna, I love your hair tutorials. You explain things so clearly and it's so easy to follow along! Now just to grow my hair back out after doing a big chop at the beginning of summer 😅🤣
hooray--space buns! thank you so much, anna, for the tutorial on nautilus buns! i've only ever done cinnamon buns because that was all i knew. i'm going to put my hair up in a nautilus bun right now because now i know how! xoxoxoxoxoxo
Me too!! I did a nautilus bun using the first style and I love it, cinnamon buns are the only buns I knew how to do :) I am so happy to be able to find new ways to do my hair(butt length, medium fine, and strait) that actually stay up and don't give me a headache from the weight 😂
Oh I'm excited for this one!! You, Morgan Donner and Bernadette Banner have inspired me to start growing my hair out long so I've been (even more) excited about long hair hairstyle tutorials:) and by the way, you've mentioned before in a couple videos some uncertainty about liking or wearing trends of a "different generation" than your own age, but IMHO I think that if it makes you feel happy to see and try out those styles, and it's not harming anyone else(especially in regards to disrespectful/hollow cultural appropriation) then do you, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!!
I love them, I admit I freaked out as Morgan was cutting her hair and after she buzzed it I was shocked for days lol. I'm Gen X way past waist length so glad to see all the long hair and agree with you
As a generation Xer, born in the first year of Gen x, 1965, I don't understand all the hoopla over cultural appropriation. In my day if you dressed or in some way copied another culture, such as native Americans for example, it was a compliment. As in " Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ". When did everyone start being offended and considering it an insult, and why?
@@sunflowers730 I'm the same age as you, and I feel similarly to you. I remember as a child dressing up as a Native American and a Gypsy. I made both costumes myself and loved them and looked great! I always loved learning about other cultures. These days it's seen as disrespectful, which is strange to me.
@@sunflowers730 No, it has never been a compliment or flattery when others are pretendians. It has always been offensive, it's just that no one ever said anything before.
This is just what I have been looking for!!! You are so skilled and I’m so inspired! So nice to see long hair up do in a more modern way!! Thanks a lot!
I love all of these. I've been growing my hair out again and now that it's lower back length, I'm looking for new ways to redistribute the weight to prevent headaches. I'm definitely trying these!
Your hair is very pretty. My hair is long layers and not long enough to put up on top, but it is long enough to get in the way. I might have to try what you have done only in smaller bits. Thanks!
Anna. Your authenticity and creativity are so charming and I think you are incredibly beautiful and talented. I am a simple and plain woman and am always amazed at your visual creations. You inspire me so much. God bless you! ☺️
That is an awesome bun.! My hair is very curly and is at waist length when it is stretched or pressed, both of which I don't do much, haha, but I love this and I'm going to try it when I do stretch my hair.
Your long hair is so beautiful. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all this cute hairstyles. You also explain very well all the steps, so its easy to follow😊
I love these tutorials! I actually never understood how the nautilus buns worked until now, so thank you for that!! I don't know the name for the bun I usually do, I just twist my hair and then wrap it up into a bun and stab a hair stick through it 😂 so it's good to learn a new way to do things! I am definitely trying out that last hairstyle, it's so cute! And I hope my hair can be as long and healthy as yours someday!
Have you ever tried a Gibraltar bun? Similar idea but it’s easier to achieve with shorter hair. Was my go to style for a decade or so. It’s quite lovely for the thinner hair folks who need longer hair for the nautilus to stay put.
omg the last two were so beautiful!! you should try out some anime hairstyles!! with you long hair you definitely succes with the sailor moon buns, they kinda like space buns, but with a strand of hair
The hardest part of having long hair is wanting to do the beautiful flowing hairstyles, but also needing your hair out of the way for when you're working.
They are all so ridiculously cute!! ❤️ I am going to have to share your video with my daughter who has ridiculously thick hair she can sit on, although it isn't quite as long as yours is. And I love your hair sticks, perhaps ones with extra bling on the ends facing out instead of in? Very Gen Z. Although this is coming from a Gen X'er, so what do I know!😉
Yes, your hair is spectacular but YOU my dear, are delightful! Your beautiful vintagy wardrobe, sparkling wit and joy and your hysterical characters totally outshine your dead, albeit lovely, lengthy hair follicles. You are adorable❤
I have been looking forward to seeing your video for a few days now! XD I am so happy that you did these. I will never use the first one tbh, just don't like the bun on top like that. Oh my gosh thank you so much❤ been looking for styles that don't give me a headache im excited to try these as some seem to distribute the weight more🙏🏼
I loved your princess look I think you called it. Um toward the end also you did the space buns and then braided your hair and even put some braids underneath some other braids. I have curly hair down to my shoulder blades and I hope to get it as long as yours!! I am studying different long hair girls hair care routines. Love yours and I always try to do natural oils too.
As someone with knee length hair, I'm so, so glad to see "long hair hairstyles" for hair longer than shoulder length
Same! 🤩
I'm 51 and still get away with space buns! 😆 Age is just a number 😊

I'll be 55 soon and still rock the space buns.
