I’ve had mine for 25 years and I will never sell it. It was manufactured the same year I was born :) I think the filter is amazing with a warmth and very nice resonance. The one oscillator but with combination functionality can sound really phat! A bit of processing, a delay and reverb and this synth reaches the skies. The presets however are more like toys...

oh wow!! That sounded AWESOME... nice video!! Thanks for the heads up!!
Happy b-day!!
That's litteraly a Nintendo NES music generator!
8 bits baby! 😄
Frank Drebbin no
More like Atari 2600 😆
In my studio I have an SH-1000 above a Juno-6 in a rack. Small world ;)
SH-1000 above a Juno 106 above a Juno 6 over here :)
In my studio SH-1000 is above over everything😁 ✌
3:34 R2-D2 sound😂
Sounds like a straight up 8-bit synth from the 80's...like
youbecha64 I know I heard the first three notes of the original Power Rangers show!
Kindof, but it is analogue and not digital so I guess it has a bit more warmth. Would recommend Soulsby Atmegatron for that :)
I bought one of these brand new in 1973, and haven't seen one since. I wish you would have spent more time digging in rather than make fun of it. I got a lot of cool sounds out of it which worked in a lot more songs than you would have thought. I can't remember what I did with it, but it was very cool to see it again anyway.
This was my first synth in the mid 70's. I vastly underestimated it at the time, because it wasn't a minimoog, but actually it was a remarkable little synth, and with a little delay and chorus, it sounded awesome. I miss it and would love to get one again some day.
6:56!! Atari!!
Sounds like it was used to write 80's computer games!
That's not a bad thing :)
Reminds me of my Moog Satellite with it's flip up/down switches, but you have lots of knobs to twiddle with :)
It’s literally the 8-bit video game synth. I love it!
All the sounds for pacman seem to come from this synth :P
My all-time favourite synth! I've had two of them. Sadly I had to sell the first to pay the rent during college. The second was destroyed by an inept tech. Grrr. One of these days I'll grab a third, forever keeper version.
Love the videos. Keep 'em coming!
I own one, and I simply adore it. I think you will too. Despite having just one oscillator, it can sound fat, but I tend to run it through a Boss CE-300 chorus to thicken it up even more (without straying from that classic Roland sound).
The filter is a -24db/oct diode ladder design, quite similar to the EMS VC3, and it sounds amazing. The filter always tracks the keyboard, except on some of the presets, so it can be used as a second oscillator when self-oscillating, to create some tuned FMish sounds. However, like other ladder filters (including Moog's), It does suffer from a volume drop on the low end as resonance increases,
IMO, the best preset is the bass guitar. It doesn't quite come through in the video, unfortunately, but it is killer. The other presets are ok (they aren't entirely useless), and they can be altered using the tremolo, vibrato, growl, and wah settings. The cool thing is that the parameters for each preset are programmed using a diode matrix, which is easily hackable, so the adventurous can open their SH1000's and make their own presets.
This was my first ! I bought a defective one just to use the keyboard for my synthesizer project, but I managed to fix it! 🥳
Warning to all people who own this synthesizer or who want to buy one: PLEASE remember that those colored flip switches are made of a very brittle type of plastic.
If they snap off, know, that there is NO GLUE in existance that can glue those tabs back on ....!!! The ONLY cure is to buy a new one and replace it.
These tabs are about 45 years old.......... Good luck finding one............
Again, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!
(I owned an SH1000 and yes... I snapped one off. I tried ALL types of glue and NOTHING worked. Nothing. And no glue even offered a hint of a grip..... I threw the synth away. It hardly produced any sound, anymore. Way too expensive to have it repaired, also... Maybe I should have kept the thing. But hey... it was years before Internet existed....)
I still have mine with music stand and flight case. I modded it with a CV in/out and added a pulse width modulation to the osc which back in the day was phat! One thing is that it kept in tune far better than the mini moog. :D
Thanks for posting!
Wonderful to hear some of those sounds again.
I owned one for about 10 years back in the day.
Incredibly versitile , add a reverb and echo and the universe is the limit.
Used on Dar Side Of The Moon.
Roland and Yamaha's first analog synths look similar
(The Yamaha SY-1, and This)
I think its the preset tabs and the woodgrain, whatever it is, I love them both!
Hello, Dr. Mix,- greetings from the dark winter of Scandinavia.
Thoroughly enjoying all of your presentations of all of the vintage synths from my youth in the late 70s and up through the 80s.
I remember all of those hits that were made with these fantastic machines,- from the the early Tangerine Dream, Roxy Music and the Popcorn hit over Vangelis to Madonna and the entire British New Romantics movement of Duran Duran, Eurhythmics and Depeche Mode etc.
The fun part is that I don´t play the piano,- I´m a Metal guitar player!
However, if I ever want any of these old fantastic sounds in my music I now know where to look for which DAW plugins to buy and then use your demonstrations as a guideline to making them sound right,- good deal! :)
So,- thank you,- fun, educating and entertaining.
You of course have yourself a new subscriber.
Great video and great performance. 👍 In 1973 I saw ELP live. I called my music shop and said: I need a synthesizer. They said: we have a Roland SH1000 for 1000 DM. I bought it immediatly ( how naive) and quickly realised: it doesn't sound like a Moog. So I collected all my money and bought a Minimoog in Hamburg for 5000 DM! I still have the Roland today. It is like new. But I love my (now) two Minimoogs. Modified, I can control both devices with one. What a sound! Many greetings.
Fun fact: The first synthesizer I played on a recording was one of these Roland SH-1000s, along with a Crumar string synth. My bandmate had a lot of fun gear back in 1998. The SH-1000 is a lot of fun for something so simple.
Nice!
1998: oh I got this trash at a pawn shop for a 100 bucks.
2020: I got this at an auction for 800 bucks!
Wonder what the Doctor Who theme would sound like played on this by Doctor Mix?
Very much sounds to me like a grown up sh101....
Finding your channel has been one of the highlights of this pandemic quarantine. Thanks for the awesomeness!
Hey Claudio.
I'm highly interested in a subject and I'd love to hear your insight. So maybe if someday you have room to cover the subject I drop it here.
How to use SFX tastefully in a song ?
I'm at a point I clearly understand I need that in my tracks, but I have no clue where to start and I'm stuck at wondering how to do.
Thanks. ;)
One.
Night.
Stand.
😁
It looks awesome and seems like it would be a really cool lead synth in the right hands! :D
Can we have a famous sounds of the SH1000, like the bass lines from imagination?
This was the first sound I was expecting to be demoed!
6:40 maybe this is the synth that Crazy Bus theme was composed on?
Mate, 10 mins about a synth with no close up of front panel and controls? Er...?
Fair point!
Yessss I've been waiting for this one! Seeing this pop up in my feed just made my day! Thank you Doctor!
I think you played every sound from my gaming days back in the 80's! 😄So much love, so much energy! 😀
I'd like to thank your mother for giving birth, and also paying for those piano lessons.. money well spent :D
Hahahhaha 😁😂
One night stand..haha 😬
This was a synth used in a quite a few children's programs in the early to mid 70s.. Always thought they used Moogs or Arps but nope, this sounds exactly right!
This synth was originally used in the movie Spermula (1976) flick, over 16mm film on a mono telecine channel. Today the synth is worth more than the film's total gross take !
Wow! That's weird, hahaha
@@pedrobahamondes6943 CINDERELLA 2000 had some cool analog too !
That is a unique find; with a unique design.!!!
such a beauty ;-; much want
Yeahhh!
Atari? 😂😂😂😂
About time! 😂😂😀
For a while I used to just watch you while unsubscribed but last Christmas... I managed to do just that. U guys were all amazing gift and thank you always for the tips!
Yayyyyu thanks for the sub!
Nice sound 4:54 👍🏻 5:37 presets 😊 it sounds better than the analog synth on my JD-XI
Luckily this equipment was used by great musicians to make great songs and not to make jokes.
I'm soo exited. I´ve been waiting a long time for someone to go deep with the fat sounds this Roland bad boy can do.
This cool synt made the magic bassound used in the world wide megahit "Just an illusion" by the famous disco/pop/funk group called Imagination.
It would be amazing if you Claudio could recreate the fat bass used in almost every Imagination hit song. I think the bass sound was going thru a Boss chorus aswell.
I'm picking one of these up next week, it was literally the first synth I laid my hands on as a toddler. (Sadly, my dad had to let it go when we moved from Vancouver in 1975)
Its stuff like this why Dr.Mix is easily my favorite subscription! Only channel I actually clicked the bell........cant miss none of this!
Holy fuck I have one of these, inherited from my parents along with a sh2000 and a Jupiter 4. Sadly I only had the Sh1000 working briefly before it died. The jupiter 4 was DOA and I use the SH2000 everyday. I hope to sell some gear and get then going
Gotta love packaging, it reminds me of 8 bit games, i wonder if this is on Rolland cloud, the design is similar to the new controllers. Plug it into your drum machine, looks like fun, make a song with it, keep on mixing with 8bit Dr mix
i won't subscribe... and I have found your demo really bad...you don't really show the capabilities of this wonderful synth
6:00 - Possibly one of the sounds used by the Doobie Brothers in 'What A Fool Believes'.
Really?
It doesn’t sound like What A Fool Believes synth to me. You can watch them playing that song and it’s not the same synthesizer or sound. ua-cam.com/video/qKYQNtF11eg/v-deo.html
@@ds99 I think in the original recording they used an Oberheim 2-voice or 4-voice. In that video Michael McDonald is using a stage piano with a Prophet 5 on top.
RS 1990 nope
musicmanfelipe has nothing to do with what was used on the RECORD.
Doctor Mix, could you show us how Lover Boy did the intro to "Take Me To The Top"?
damm, a synth before my birth year on Doctor Mix channel... sounds very interrest to my... like the sounds form my old commodore vic20 games... Love it Claudio ^^
Yeah!
I love your videos, but you should show more care and respect for tyour luck with this one machine.
I have minikorg 700S. I wanna restoration my minikorg but i dont know where is it? Can u help me where a place i can do it?
LMAO! that sound on the "Glory Hallelujah" or whatever the song name is near the end! SO funny!
Dr. Mix? Are you a dad?
Cause you've nailed the dad jokes and awkward facial expressions after telling said jokes.
I am :-)
the reason why is cause people dont like you , they see your over the topness and say no, ive unsubscribbed because of it. its ego and not humble. just being honest mate
Oh oh, sounds like NES
Edit: With a Serbian keyboard band in the background
It sounds like an NES! It's got that chiptune vibe to it.
By the way, if you disengage the presets you have complete control over all the parameters. Really nice oscillator and filter. Only wish it had CV input.
I remember trying to restore one of these at my last job. The wiring alone made me wanna throw it in the trash. In the end, the issue was a blown via chip that we couldn't replace....
Doc I have a burning question. I want to restore the keyboard of my Ensonic Esq1 starting with the cone shaped springs that hold the keys in place. They are almost all stretched out after 30 years of use witch makes playing with the right velocity a crime. I searched the web and other sources ( there are company's that do keyboard restoration but it's expensive and I want to do it my self ), and I can't find a company that can deliver them. Maybe You or your fans have a clue where to get them. Many Thx.
Ha! I get a bit shy when going into restoration. I tend to call the pros. These guys are deemed to be amongst the best in London synthservice.com sorry I can’t hrlp more. Ah, youtube tutorials. Ha! In the US? Www.synthchaser.com
this synthesizer is a instrument that Tetuya Komuro who is one of Japans most popular musician used fist .
I just clicked on the video and I got crazybus for the Atari 2600
Ever heard of Steiner-Parker? That was my 70s synth.
Heard of it
Where can I get the converter to plug the twist lock into a USA wall outlet I’ve looked all over thanks
Here is a Human League bass line on what seems to be that bad boy ua-cam.com/video/HnjLlDY_xww/v-deo.html - super warm sound
Sounds like it uses an old PSG chip.
PSG chips were the backbone of early coin-op arcade and home video game systems.
Maybe sounds so, but these came before those chips were made.
I got a used one of these back in the 80s. I loved it!
4:07 : it sounds a little bit like Electric Light Orchestra - From the End of the World
Dr mix kicks ass iam looking at a sh 1000 now actually for sale £450
Sounds like zx spectrum computer games
amazing!!!! btw glad seeimg your one nite stand partner 🤣
Wich Belgian company is it? Im from Belgium.
Lol. The fart sound & you face with sorry. You are funny.
0:07 to 0:12 sound like a glitch sound in pokemon blue and red to me
Sounds like an NES game, Haha
1000th like. My life has purpose now.
Sounds like old arcade games.
I own one. I found it in the trash about 20 years ago.
I did a video on this synth a couple of weeks ago.
As a spoiled child I got a Riha Syntone organ and afterward I also got this synthesizer to put on top of it... was almost as expensive as the organ (110.000 Belgian Frank for the Riha and 70.000 Belgian Frank for the Roland) in the early 70’s...
Atari 2600 sounds. ua-cam.com/video/ucRYLobga0g/v-deo.html

Best filter ever it can sound like a steam train
A half year ago, i selled my Sh-2000
Atari video game sounds.
I am already subbed tho
WHAT MORE DO U WANT FROM ME MASTER CLAUDIO
Your happiness 😁
One of the few times I've gotten a subscription request in the video and been like "oh yea." I need to subscribe.
Subbed
atari used this 100% on the vcs
Do a Hammond B3 video sometime!
Looking back several decades, I have always found electronic instruments trying to "emulate" acoustic instruments somewhat ... _lacking._ Moog did not make this mistake. They just offered a synth doing what it does. Roland and especially Yamaha Electone home organs have been littered with false promises of "saxophone", "flute" and, most dreadfully of all, "piano" tones that they *never* delivered. What a weird way to sell a product.
musik adalah rasa bukan banyak banyakkan suara
Hahahaha!!! Packing peanuts!!!
I fixed a Diode ladder filter PCB mounted board on one of these 3 years ago and it was hell removing all the resin gloop the board was dipped in at manufacturing. To my surprise about 8 diodes were dead but after the board was cleaned up and repopulated with new components the synth sounded so sweet again for the customer.
I just got this synth.. for free, due to my step sisters father passing. I never met the man, but I expect we'd have got on due to our common interest in synthesis and electronic music. Not only did he leave this behind, but also a real to real tape deck with two reels of tape in boxes, one labelled with recording of the moon landing. My dad tried to have a go with the synth but couldn't get a sound out of it. So I acquired it from him and opened it up and cleaned all the contacts and hey presto, it works! The sound is great. It's exactly what I've been dreaming of for years. A real analog synth 🧡
Dear Dr. Mix, I am soooo waiting for the video about Korg m50. I'd like to see what would you take out of it.
I don't sweeten you but you are one of my favorite UA-camrs :) Thanks for great contents.
