  • How do you clean a spectrophotometer?
Watch this video for tips on how to clean your UV Vis Spectrophotometer, specifically the micro-volume platform on the UV5Nano instrument from Mettler-Toledo.
Clean measuring platforms are essential to achieving accurate and repeatable results and ensuring the long-term maintenance of your instrument.
Care should be taken to clean each surface thoroughly with a damp, lint-free tissue before measurements. Wipe both the platform and the mirror on the micro-volume arm being careful so as not to rotate the mirror.
Dry both parts well before measurement. Between each sample analysis, all traces of sample should be completely removed.
Choose the cleaning agent depending on the sample, either deionized water, TE-Buffer, 0.5M Hydrochloric Acid or 0.5M sodium hypochloride. After measurements are completed, wipe off any residuals, cleaning the micro-volume platform with a damp tissue and the appropriate chemical.
The final step of the cleaning should always be with water.
