Its just a dramatized film!!! I was on one particular hairy op, i had 5 very close friends with me , we all saw and remember different things , what i saw and my best friend 5 meters away saw were completely different, who was right ? We both were ,from our own perspective ! Adrenaline and " fog of war" changes everything around you, you see what your brain wants you to see! Everyone chill out .
Shepard kids not only located B20 but the Lone Survivor SEALs on the Sawtalo Sar as well. The similarities run deep. Units of two of the most expensive and highly trained forces, in the US and British militaries respectively, get their covers blown by shepherd boys. Sounds like we should be hiring shepherds to do recon. (Also, both B20 and Red Wings were failures, both units unprepared, both units rendered ineffective by terrain and climate, lack of situational awareness, lack of personal combat experience in their respective conflicts, both lobbied to be where they were - in Bravo Two Zero's case, the British lobbied for their deployment against the wishes of higher ups, esp Schwarzkopf. In Red Wings, politicians and Pentagon higher ups, lobbied for their deployment, when the Marines on location, including the CJTF commander said that they (USMC) could do the job, and that SEALs would be impediments. - Both units were lacking in combat experience in their respective conflicts. - Most remarkable: Both situations, absolutely stuffed up, were turned into bestselling books. Both spun the truth, and turned stories of mission failure into stories of success.
the SEALs involved with Lone Survivor weren't a tier 1 unit and weren't the most expensive and highly trained forces in the US -- in fact, they were from a SDV Team who were acting as an assault/recon unit due to high demand for troops in the middle east. Becoming a SEAL (white side) is the prerequisite for having a chance a selection for DEVGRU, which is the US equivalent of SBS, with Delta or CAG being the SAS equivalent. To become a tier 1 operator in the Navy requires 1-2 years of white side SEAL training (2 months of boot camp, roughly 1 month of indoc and pre-BUD/S, 6 months of BUD/S, then another 6-12 months of SEAL Qualifications Training (SQT). Then after a minimum of 1 deployment (which is rare) you can apply for DEVGRU selection, known as Green Team, which is another 6 month selection that makes BUD/S seem like a walk in the park.
I really like this movie, especially when you consider it was a budget production. The contact with McNab at the check point was particularly good, the sense of panic and speed to get out of contact. Don’t take it too seriously, just look at it as a bit of media art.
i have been reading though some of the comments below........... i served 7 years in the Parachute regiment before an injury forced me to leave, here are some points that i would like to raise...... to Pass P company alone it was a weight of 45 pounds plus extra kit, the bottom line is unless you were there in the mission we will never know, anyone that says they know what happens or they were SAS are prob lying, i have been over there if they did get compromised then it would been hard.
@vortex5113 yes what you said is also bollocks the "questioning" part was an invetion of the film makers Ryan himself has said the film is inacurate and it also ruined his freindship with Andy McNab which is why he wrote his book.
for all who just read and believe chris a/or andy please read solider 5. Or better still read The Real Bravo Two Zero. I promise it will leave you in no doubt what really happened
Indeed I did, with both. Soldier 5 was particularly good. It had to survive a government injunction to get published, so you know it's more accurate than most.
It's a pity that everything written about Bravo Two Zero was done in pure arse covering mode. Both 'Andy' and 'Chris's books were full of lies. RIP Legs
Compared to the bravo two zero Film with Sean bean This one shows aggro between the Team members As opposed to a more harmonious Relationship with the former
YES! At last, the most awesome underrated film about the Gulf War! The lack of respect and information on this and John Peters' Shootdown frustrate me. These people are true heroes, true men. They have my respect
Chris Ryan has commented a few times that this movie is a dead weight around his neck. That he wishes that it had not been made and that he does not agree with the way Vince Phillips was portrayed.
If this movie is true, it is a shame to send a commando team off on a mission without it being properly equipped. Brave men do not need to die for lack of equipment.
Its weird because some of this stuff that he found out seems a little unbelievable.... According to Mcnab and Ryan, there was a big fire fight witch tanks etc.... Coburn corroborates the same to a degree. Yet abbas says it was just him and two other people??? Hmmm. The other one that got me is when when Michael speaks to mohammed who found vinces body.... 1. he pointed out vince in a picture... and 2. He knew vince had two girls... YET mcnab does not mention this and Ryan got it wrong.. hmmmm.
The closest to the truth would have been on the debrief. Everyone subject to the official secrets act. Every movie and book can be written with artistic licence some bits can be added or changed where they see fit.
Although, if you read McNab's autobiographies, he recognises and admits himself that he was often gobby and full of himself. In interviews he's described himself as having been a "selfish dickhead" at times. So it could be an accurate portrayal.
@Friedkin01 most of its bullshit, ive seen an interview where chris ryan himself said he wasnt happy with the film he didnt have final say as to how the film was to be made and the film company put in a lot of bullshit into the story line. apparently if you read the book soldier 5 its the real story, the government tried to get it banned in the uk but i think you can buy it online
A few questions: - Why didn't they have cold weather gear ? Did they not know the temperatures ? If not, why ? - Their LUP is near a BUA (a small village). Why were they not aware of its presence ? The entire area of "Scud Alley" was very well known,. I know they didn't have BLUEFORCE tracker, but, either they didn't study the maps, or the maps were inaccurate, and if the maps were inaccurate, why ? Coalition air had scored scouted the area thoroughly in searching for the Scud launchers. - Why were SAS even used here ? Gen Schwarzkopf was against it, believing special forces to be exceedingly hyped, but in the field, he believed their training and mentality would be an impediment rather than a benefit. Why not use Recon Marines to call in air once launchers were located ? - Did the SAS destroy any Scud Launchers? - Have we ever heard from any of the successful SAS units tasked with Scud Launcher destruction ? Were there any ?
Clearly you have never heard of Hiroo Onoda and Teruo Nakamura then. 8 days is great. But these guys were Japanese holdouts in WW2 from 1944 to 1974 waging their own guerrilla wars in the Philippines and Indonesia respectively until they were finally convinced to surrender after they had finally realized that the war had ended and that Japan had surrendered. Now that is how you Escape and Evade.
Holy Crap!!!!!! 200lbs in their bergens....... I wonder what kind of backpacks they used??? Even USMC's current ILBE--Improved Load Bearing Equipment backpack can't or would have trouble carrying that weight......
@benny1473 They have to carry all the ammo, food, water, and equipment they need to survive for a week or more. So of course the gear is quite heavy. They usually carry at least 120lbs of gear just in their pack. Not counting guns and vests and helmet. Remember that there is little to eat or drink out in the desert. Also once they setup their observation post they were supposed to stay put. Hence all the gear. Research SAS selection and you'll know they can carry heavy loads.
its a wonder bear grylls hasnt included himself !!! to the credits ...he seems to for everything else re S/F sabre sqn ops... oh ....thats right he was T.A. & NOT 22 sqn.
agree ...'''afterbirth''' whilst 22 is indeed the regular reg... it is composed of sas squadrons ... you arse wipe. try reading the whole sentence or is that too much to ask of your special needs.
@Friedkin01 i haven't read it but Ive heard the book soldier 5 is the real story and the government tried to get it banned, so that must say something about the authenticity
I get the impression you think i'm defending McNab and Ryan? I'm not,but anything you read in print on this issue is far from the truth and biased to the author. and as for RSM(lost his weapon)lets have a meeting in the desert Ratcliffe and Michael i wish I was a real arab Asher they can both bullshit with the best of them. Coburn's account was heavily censored but still a good read.
Ryan and Mcnabb... I don't trust both. BUT a film should be made based on this and ALL the books... So to give a film with more perspective. Sth like Generation Kill. And let the world decide what really happened with all four men's books (Four books right?)
Really annoys me how they made andy mcnab look. ive read Bravo Two Zero and The One That Got Away both excellent books but Chris Ryan has made Andy And Vince out to know nothing. Its a load of crap. Read Immediate action and Seven Troop by andy and you will see what a sort of man he is and how good a soldier he was!
@aR3DF0Xa CORRECT! its funny isnt how many people 'know' someone whos been in the Special forces, is a complete surprise that its as secret as it is!!!!!!!
I understand that, but like I said, its ok to exagerate a bit, we all do. He could have put some engagments in the book and some kills without going completely overboard to make them look like action movie stars, knowing the truth now just makes them look stupid and to be honest I have lost respect for the S.A.S
not the best, they killed no one on that mission so telling a story where they killed 5, 10 even 20 would be believable and good war story, killing 100 men an 2 apc's in just the first fight, thats cocky childesh story telling
OK....... if you are on UA-cam talking about how you know either RYAN or Mcnabb then your talking shit, and only if you have any credible background in the army will you know why i just said that. if you have read lots of books about Bravo two Zero or you have watched the 'MOVIE' and you have gained a little knowledge about the regiment then great, but just think about it before you make yourself look like an idiot. anyway im bored of this im brewing up......... anyone want one?
Well Done Lads F**King Brilliant Infact. Good Luck in Manchester Red Lights and Black. Looks Like we made it.....Check my work at link Below. I am Staying Put but I love You. Paulie Dee (Peace and Prosperity)
Incredible: Paul Greengrass able to shoot a film without shaking his camera about every two seconds and making something actually watchable.
too kin right!!!!
The blokes got bloody Parkinson's (which set in after this) ! Lets not demean a disabled director. He's doing his best.
Its just a dramatized film!!!

One of the best books I've ever had the pleasure of reading
stand by stand by is even better than this book in my opinion , also by chris ryan
Good job you had the gold pieces. "Respect" done well.
Along with Andy Mcnabs book, this is the greatest work of fiction I have ever seen!

Seals and marines are good but the SAS SbS and RMC would shi t on them Britain has the best fighting force its been proven many times
the SEALs involved with Lone Survivor weren't a tier 1 unit and weren't the most expensive and highly trained forces in the US -- in fact, they were from a SDV Team who were acting as an assault/recon unit due to high demand for troops in the middle east. Around 13:00 you can see Chris Ryan making a cameo appearance as the photographer before they head out.
I noticed that, glad somebody confirmed.
paul mcgann also played dr who for one movie in 1996 made in canada i believe.
wow they actually act like the bergens are 209 lbs in this one
I really like this movie, especially when you consider it was a budget production. The contact with McNab at the check point was particularly good, the sense of panic and speed to get out of contact. Don’t take it too seriously, just look at it as a bit of media art.

Just awesome one of the best ever on the reality of SAS involvement in the first gulf war/Iraq.
@vortex5113 yes what you said is also bollocks the "questioning" part was an invetion of the film makers Ryan himself has said the film is inacurate and it also ruined his freindship with Andy McNab which is why he wrote his book.

The One That Got Away has "This is a work of fiction" in the legal text on the first page
Lol that "the real bravo 2 0" documentary was complete bollocks!
You couldn’t find a better title? This one was from a 1950s movie about a Nazi that made it back hi,e during the war.
It's a pity that everything written about Bravo Two Zero was done in pure arse covering mode. Both 'Andy' and 'Chris's books were full of lies. RIP Legs
Finally on youtube! 22uksf channel is the dogs bollocks!

Chris Ryan has commented a few times that this movie is a dead weight around his neck. That he wishes that it had not been made and that he does not agree with the way Vince Phillips was portrayed.
Well he made a fair few quid out of the units sold of his book so....let it go like if its not entirely accurate?
If this movie is true, it is a shame to send a commando team off on a mission without it being properly equipped. Brave men do not need to die for lack of equipment.
They did not die becasue a lack of equipped. They had it, but helicopter never came.
Was there a problem between Ryan and McNabb?
minuteman3 sounds like they couldn't stand each other
Its weird because some of this stuff that he found out seems a little unbelievable.... According to Mcnab and Ryan, there was a big fire fight witch tanks etc.... Coburn corroborates the same to a degree. Yet abbas says it was just him and two other people??? Hmmm. david morrissey who is playing mcnab here is the governor in the tv series the walking dead
Hes just an on screen governor full stop.
The closest to the truth would have been on the debrief. Everyone subject to the official secrets act.
Every movie and book can be written with artistic licence some bits can be added or changed where they see fit.
What do you think of MacNabb?
yup, they are the best storytellers indeed.
This group of soldiers were so badly prepared it was pointless sending into Iraq ✌️❤️🇬🇧
Andy if you haven`t aleady read it get a copy of the real bravo two zero
Although, if you read McNab's autobiographies, he recognises and admits himself that he was often gobby and full of himself.
In interviews he's described himself as having been a "selfish dickhead" at times.

You are a dummmy, try evading enemy in desert .
Where there is no damn cover.
Definetly the right choice mate, see you on the frontline.
One fine film tap tap pinged , Who Dares Wins.
"I want 'B' squadron to be first"
Chris Ryan is the one taking the squadron photo.
If there is a movie about a mission it is a dramatized bullshit story. There is a cool movie called The Objective
So if Paul mcgann is Chris Ryan why does he sound like a Londoner Ryan is a Geordie I mean they got mcnabs accent down but not Ryan's
thats called towing the line!!not telling the truth....
Toeing... Because we stand at attention at a line every damn day for inspection!

oooo arrrr, we'll plough them cables right up boy, then av some ciderrr.
this is what happens when you put corporals in charge....
is this on dvd?
Have to say I tend to believe Ryan story. How do you not check the frequencies. McNabb was responsible.
200lbs of kit,,, same as giving a piggie back to a fully grown man for how ever many days they were out,,,,,total bullshit
its a wonder bear grylls hasnt included himself !!! to the credits ...he seems to for everything else re S/F sabre sqn ops... oh ....thats right he was T.A. & NOT 22 sqn.

Poor Vince is already getting a bad stitch-up, so is Andy.
