- Hi friends! I filmed a day in the life video on a relatively quiet day without too many clinic or OR responsibilities. I hope you enjoy!

Hey Andrea, bit of a strange question here! I have been watching some of your videos with interest, but was really surprised at the American work ethic - it seems even more rigorous than it is here in the UK. You seem - and please don’t take offence to this - to simply be working all the time! Waking up at 4am to read for 2 hours before going to work? Coming back from work to study even more. Endless exams and work pressures. 10-14 hour working days. Etc etc.
Do you feel you are getting enough out of life and do you feel like it is all worth it? Or, rather, do you feel that your life is nothing but work at the moment? Do you get time to really explore other aspects of life? Do you not feel burnt out?
Looking forward to any sort of reply :-)
This is a very interesting question. I am a medical student in the UK (4th)
Yeah the US work ethic is on a whole new level to everywhere else - and across the board, not just medicine. I’m in Australia, and the work ethic here is like 1/4 of the US.
Very curious to know this too. I also like to do other things and don’t want to be indulged in medicine 24/7.
satinderjit4 One thing to remember guys is that Andrea is particularly conscientious.
In the US there is a lot of competition and pressure to be the best. For example in my nursing school you can’t get below and 85. Do you know what students are doing just to maintain an 85? They are on adderall, doing coke, waking up at all hours to study...I mean Americans will do anything to be successful so they can make a ton of money...that’s what drives the American work ethic
Great vlog dr. Tooley ☺️ I started watching you during my 2nd year of undergrad and now I’m in 2nd year of med school. Thank you for being an inspiration to me, I love your positive attitude and passion for medicine. Wishing you all the best, happy new year 🥰
I was just about to do an "anxiety nap" ;), but I could not sleep so I went on UA-cam and saw your new video!! Thank you for taking us with you! You are such an inspiration and motivation. I don't know when I actually started watching your videos, but I remember being super nervous before the first days of anatomy lab in my second year (Med school is 6 years in Germany), and you answered to my comment on Instagram and wished me luck! This was almost 3,5 years ago. Since then I almost quit, changed universities but now am super happy with my choice and probably becoming a radiologist or orthopedic surgeon. I will never forget the "hard times", when I watched your videos for motivation and advice. You definitely helped me going through those times! Thank you!
I clicked on this so fast!
I've said it before and I will say it again - you are so beautiful and inspiring Andrea, thank you so much for sharing your life with us!
Thank you so much for the great videos and for all that you do, Dr. Tooley.
I looooveeeeeee these videos!
I absolutely enjoyed your video! Please do more days in the life 🤍
Dr. Tooley, I happened upon your VLOG when researching Ophthalmic Techncian Programs. I am an Orthoptist and COMT, and worked in oculoplastics for many years. I enjoy your energy and information - a fun diversion from creating a PowerPoint on ocular pharmacology :)...
It's so crazy that I started watching your videos when I was in high school and you were in med school. Now you're an oculoplastics fellow and I am a scribe for an oculoplastic surgeon applying to PA school!
The wishbone is so cute!! And functional~
I wish I would have a fraction of your energy! So wonderful to see you and peek in your day! All the best :)
Ilze Berzina she’s got ridiculously high productivity levels, sleeps a lot, wakes up early, eats healthy, exercises, and probably works ridiculously long hours as a surgery fellow (now attending surgeon). No idea how she does it.
This was very interesting. You are so inspiring!
Great video even if it is not a typical day!
Hi, just wanted to say I enjoy your vlogs so much!!
Also, quick question, (super random) but do you have an opinion on Lasik eye surgery? I was just curious what your perspective of it is. Anywho have a great day! Thank you for your time 😊
Busy busy!
Wow how did you make your teeth so white! Cool vlog Andrea ! 😀
So interesting keep making these interesting videos.
I live in nyc and if I ever see you around or on the train I’ll prolly freak out omg lol
How often should we change our contact lenses. and could you recommend some good brands? Thanks so much. And maybe a simple contact care and when to throw them out.
Dr Andrea, could you list your favourite books on ophtalmoly for begginers? :) thanks
As a vegan med student, I love to see you making plant-based meals!
