Having spent 16 years in test engineering, I love seeing the test bench you created. This is exactly what I used to do, set it up as designed, and run it through a gauntlet of test steps. Amazing.
This is the first time I've seen their test bench. It should really make the install easy with the knowledge everything will actually work. Great job ECC!
What can we say!!! We are the Swede partners and yes re designing and updating kits always take more time than one plans on, but the result is just spectacular!!! For those interested we will be time lapsing the whole process so we just can wait to share this with you. Thanx Moggy and Tim for a super concise to the point episode! 🎉❤😊
First class piece of kit for testing Moggy, made by your own World Class Team. Your success is a testimony to the knowledge and skill of you and your workforce which is now spreading across the world. Don’t get too big Moggy, you have a unique business here in a place where you love to be. May the conversions continue 👍🏴😎
Dang I wish you had a remote garage here in the USA(Colorado) of the same caliber that you have there! Your attention to details is spot on for an extremely efficient EV classic car the product of that business sense. Vehicle to Load, Awesome!
Hi Richard. Love your work mate, binge watched all your vids and every now and then watch a particular vid again. Your work is top notch and your passion is infectious. There's one vid where you clarify your views insofar as to whether or not it's a sin to convert a classic car. Maybe I should've posted this comment on that vid instead of here but I decided to post it on this one as it's your latest. One thing you did not address is how a conversion may affect the investment and appreciation of a classic car. For example let's say you converted a 1970 Mercedes 280SL aka Pagoda. Now those cars, especially one that is in great condition can cost upwards of £100,000, some considerably more. Folk buy them because they know that, at the very least, should they sell them they'll get their money back, more than likely make money. If it's converted to electric though then surely the resale value has decreased considerably has it not?
I enjoyed to see your test bench👍 It really shows your passion for your craftsmanship - Every part is powder coated and clean, form follow function - Except of the missing bed for Spud, what a miss 😉😂. Looking forward to your next episode.🍀
Very nice but opposed to the majority of your Porsche viewers I actually don't like the 911. I prefer the 928 you had in the background. So I hope you will do a 928 episode. (I did watch your 944 build long while back).
Gotta make own dedicated episode for the test bench... It needs steering wheel and wheels so you can test traction control without going out... When you steer in one direction, the speed the wheel spins should reflect the direction the steering wheel is turned to get best performance...
The kit is so clean. The low voltage harness replaces the old wiring harness? That is great if it does. I always end up spending at least a week fixing 50-40 year old wiring on a conversion every time. I often spend more time sorting out and fixing the original wiring than I do converting the car. When large lithium batteries are shipped that have to a certain state of charge, (30%) do you have a load bank to lower the state of charge? Though I guess you would receive them at around that state of charge.
I always really love your videos. But as a filmmaker I also keep an eye on how things are made, production wise. When there is something wrong with the image I always get distracted from the true content, sadly enough. In this video the white balance was way off, although the b-roll of all the parts being used for this test bench and conversion were perfectly white balanced. In the switch between A- and B-roll that became very visible each time. All the whites are much too yellow in the A-roll... Since you are perfectionists in your field, I hope you can appreciate my comment to extend that perfection to the production of the videos as well.
Are you ready to start installing NACS charging ports? Will that take extra programming/permission/ cooperation with Tesla? Some non Tesla cars should start being delivered with NACS this year here in the states. The camera loves Spud.
I'd like to see ECC open an office in the USA. I know there are many EV conversion businesses in the USA but when you look the organization of all the parts, ECC knows what they're doing and we'd like this quality here. When are you going to support the Tesla connector in the USA? Tesla charging stations seem to be the only reliable charging stations in the USA.
Spud gives side-eye with that "you're stealing my camera time mate" look. ^~^ but a question if you please. is the cooling system compatible with waterless coolant such as Evans?
Richard will you guys ever switch to using the model 3 or Y drive unit's someday? They are more ubiquitous with 6,500,000+model 3s&ys sold globally so far, smaller&lighter overall in weight. Plus the new tesla 2024 m3p 4du rear du has 408hp all by itself. Awesome kit btw this is what we need MORE of for elktromods to gain traction and keep these beauties otr as emissions standards continue to tighten down globally! 👍🏻
As an American that learned to drive a manual gearbox car in my father’s 1964 1/2 Mustang coupe, I have watched many of your videos and others too. The one discouraging thing I discovered about converting to electric is not being able to shift my own gears anymore. I grew up loving British, German and some American cars BECAUSE of a manual gearbox! I love electronic cars but my thoughts are now troubled.
Love the test bed. Not sure why someone from the US wouldn't want the AC installed. Seems odd to me but to each their own. Nice work on the kit, love the dog bed idea but as a suggestion, make it look like a battery box. :)
Quick question for the boss, Spud do Tesla sell new battery modules for the conversions or do you have to rely on careless drivers ? Plus is that a 928 skulking in theback.
Here in America everybody or all the manufacturers pretty much have committed to using the Tesla charging standard. I would imagine they're going to do the same in Europe. My question is are you going to or rather when are you going to use the Tesla charger and plug?
Is the dramatic decline in the price of batteries reflected in the final kit cost? There seems to be little transparency in final conversion costs which makes it more difficult to assess if the conversion company is providiing good value. Each conversion may vary it but would be helpful to establish a base price for comparison. Does this kit cost 25k or 85k plus fitting?

At some point could you talk about the cost? A neighbor seemed to think an electric conversion of a 911 would be around $100K. I thought that was high, but I'd like to hear from you. Thanks,
There were some prices on the ECC website. If I recall correctly, the price is probably even higher - 100k but in pounds :) Depending on the type of vehicle, of course.
@@marklangren3142 I guess if you have the money for exotic sports cars it becomes academic. However also consider the cost of rebuilding a tired 911 engine and it's old gearbox, you are probably halfway there. If you then consider that they offer a 450Kw kit which an air-cooled 911 isn't going to do without a turbo and a gear box that can handle that, at that stage you are probably approaching equivalence.
@@marklangren3142these guys are not fixing cars or particularly trying to go green, they are trying to build the best sports cars they can. To them that means changing to electric. Enough people agree with them that they have a business.
The guys had already started to disassemble the kit on the test bench ready for shipping so the coolant system was already removed. Our full QC tests include charging it at max kW, which requires the coolant system to be fully operational. 👍
Would love to start seeing kits for American cars. There is a ton of them still on the road in the US, way more than there are classics in the UK. Most of the models will also share chassis and fitment with multiple other models. And people in the US will spend money.
