This is one of the coolest comparisons I've seen. 4runner with locking diff, Atrac and stock height. 2 gladiators differing by lift. 2 grand cherokees differing by drivetrain only. What I like about my WK2 Trailhawk is not needing a lift kit. Add bigger tires and you have well over 11 inches. $3500 in chief products protection doesn't hurt either. And the air lift system maintains ground clearance as weight is added to vehicle. Not so for conventional suspensions. For a trd offroad 4runner to beat it you have to upgrade quite a few things costing quite a bit; plates, rails, tires and suspension.
Having done that bit in a 2016 WK2 with QT2, it helped convince my I needed a rig with the ability to do more than my Jeep could provide. Loved my Jeep and always enjoy seeing and wheeling with Brad and family....
I was ready to tackle this trail this weekend in my lifted GX 470 but after watching the video, I will probably wait until I have sliders on mine. Great video and comparison of the trucks.
Really enjoyed this trip and the patience/determination both Brad and Lauren offered as guides! Recently upgraded my rig to a Gladiator and look forward to our next time on the trails!
Great video, thanks! After years of off-roading, I can’t help but cringe to see all these videos of vehicles with subpar 4x4 and/or no diff locks tearing up the trails. Certainly not treading lightly 😢
If you come to Alabama, hit me up! I'll go and represent the (regular) Cherokee Trailhawk. I'm 40 degrees approach, 40 degrees departure, and about 30 degrees breakover with the lift and tires. From the middle of the bottom of rock slider to the ground is about 14 inches. From the ground to the suspension arm's lowest point is about 9.2 inches. If that works. Has a rear locker, so similar capability to quadra drive.
Very cool video. You said, not sure why he picked the 4Runner instead of a Grand Cherokee. A. I think both are great off road, but B. He probably wanted the brand known for longevity & reliability, that could also do really well off road. Jeeps are awesome, but honestly, Yotas are known for million mile motors. Thanks for posting. Great driving by the young lady.
He knew that the 4runner would outlast the jeep, can't say I was impressed with their spotting, i'll take a 4runner any day, love my 2016 4runner trail with kdss.
Hi guys from Greece! Although I'm having a blast here with my Overland I so wish I were there with you; this Trail seems like a lot of fu! :-) Brad, great throttle control at 5:48! And Lauren, as usual, you prove what an excellent spotter (ok, ok, and driver!) you are! Say hi to the (growing too fast) children. See y'all in the Fall.
Looks fun. Give me my lumber yard 4 x 4 2500 GMC I drive for deliveries with a half ton of lumber on the back and I'd just cruise up this. Lol Some of the roads they send me down around Algonquin park don't look much better. Haha
I was laughing when you said that the 4Runner guy bought it after watching your channel! Im actually started seriously looking at GC Trailhawk after watching your videos. Eventually, I bought one last year. Put all Chiefs Products protection, and enjoying the car a lot!
Just to say that I, too, have a Trailhawk (2020) stock with rock sliders from the factory and enjoy it tremendously! I find it really doesn't need much more!

Id say as far as SUVs go the Bronco and Wranglers are king for offroading. Lexus and Toyota have the GX and Landcruiser coming back now so get ready for those. The reason 4runners are so popular is bc they make a great budget, body on frame base platform for builds. Their simplicity makes them easier to upgrade for offroad. The Grand cherokees have become too high tech to modify. You also cannot get QD2 wo getting quadralift. I dont think QL is that great for rock crawling bc it limits your tire size. Its ok for occasional offroad or overlanding as long as you have a warranty. Brad has certainly put it to the test and its held up so far. While it can be done the suspension and axles are too hard to upgrade on a GC esp w QL. You cant even put 265/70/18s(32.6) on a trailhawk but maybe you could with wheel spacers(Bora 1.5 hub centric). If not and I was wheeling like these guys, I would save my alloys rims and try to swap out w some steel 17s w 265/70/17 or 32s w more backspace. 33s should be your minimum for offroad technical trails. To compete w toyota/lexus, Jeep needs a simple, affordable and upgradable suv, perhaps a new Cherokee? The Wrangler is small and not for every one although much improved thanks to bronco. A budget offroad Cherokee from the factory could have solid rear axle w steel springs, 2.5in lift, 265/70/18s(or 265/70/17s like 4R), 4 low w lockers(rubicon system),tow pkg, full size spare, and skids etc. 33s on like 285/70/17s would be even better but hard to fit on a GC wo major mods. On the other hand getting 33s and a lift on a 4 runner is much easier and more available. Nissan could bring back the Xterra but seems the car companies are more into offroad pkgs on their crossovers these days. If you are really serious 35s are best to avoid damage which is why we have Wranglers and Broncos. The Accuair system on a Wrangler is pretty impressive as well. Buy once, cry once.
Is there somewhere that I can find info about trails and their difficulty. I have a 2016 Laredo E with the off-road adventure package. It’s totally stock now. I am looking for places where me and my friend can go and see some fantastic scenery without putting my Jeep in too much jeopardy.

@@laurenkresge5336 From being in an old guy band for years, mic proximity is very important. Putting more distance between the mic and you basically. I feel like, with the brake locking, that you're showing them to use momentum instead of throttle control at LOW RPMs to allow the time it take for braking to kick in. It DOES take a stead RPM,,, not throttle. steady throttle can overrun the RPMs that the braking works at. It's less than 2K RPMs (guessing here) for it to work. Anything over that, it disengages???? Not sure what RPMs exactly. But I've done it both ways, and lower RPMs that are held steady by using good throttle control makes the braking diff thing work SO much better. It REALLY takes good throttle control. Or RPM control more accurately stated. That's my thoughts, but I haven't seen the algorithm used in the programming of these systems. I'm only reverse engineering what I've witnessed. Shall I say prove me wrong? LOL Just guessing, but see if you can prove it one way or the other. I will do the same. ALL of this is a game of finesse. The skinny pedal breaks stuff. You are dealing with newbies, but they have to have a place to gain experience as well. Let's make sure we are accurate on our advise also.
I don’t know how much use that Toyota has had, but the rest of us how much use and ABUSE over the years that poor WK 2 has had with what I would consider pretty minimal breakage and not much complaint.
The spotting is leaving a bit to be desired here. I've done 10 years of ROCK CRAWLING stuff and from what I've seen here, the spotting is not that great. You're spotting newbies. Your driving is SOOOOO much better and you can tell it. Learning throttle control for those you spot is very important to teach them as well as why. Great vids though. I'll be watching and armchair spotting. LOL
Toyota 4runner "throttle what!@???" 😂😂 I'm sure it was his first trail, eventually he'll get it. He definitely needs the foot on the doghouse, and some 2-foot practice.
After listing off a number of things your Grand Cherokee was in the shop for and then you say"I don't know why he bought a Toyota 4Runner?" I think you already answered your own question. With a modest lift and good aftermarket tires, the Toyota will be going where the Grand Cherokees go.
