    I will be starting this program in the fall for my kindergarten class. Thank you for sharing this video, it is very helpful. I was beginning to feel overwhelmed at the thought of teaching my students all the phonograms, how to read and how to write in cursive. I am planning on teaching manuscript first since it goes along with reading print and focus on cursive writing later on in the year! Appreciate the video!

    As a home school mom who has watched many tutorial curriculum videos, yours has got to be the most well explained to the point, easy to understand and imagine the bigger picture. I was having trouble deciding if this level would be good to start with VS the other program for kids ages 8+ . I regret starting him at level B and not just starting him at level A. It may put him further behind ,but on the flip side, we should be able to move twice as fast until we get to those few alphabet sounds he needs to take more time on. Right now he just needs to work on Y , I , and maybe 1-2 other ones.

      Thank you! Just an idea... you could use the Doodling Dragons picture book or even the new coloring book from level A to practice the single letter phonograms. There are songs that go with the picture book, which are fun too. When handwriting in B, you could have him write both lower and uppercase letters. Thank you for your feedback!

      Did you end up with logic of english? How do you like it?

  • @jodylund5477
    @jodylund5477 4 роки тому

    Wow this was so awesome and helpful. I had not heard of this and so I already purchased all about reading level one based on the recommendation of a friend which led me down a rabbit hole of a lot of research. But then I heard about logic of English which I was not familiar with and I love the neckties the spelling and writing and everything all together. And so I was thinking of selling my all about reading in purchasing this for my kindergartner. This will be our first year of homeschool which I’ve been dreaming about since she was Age too. It has nothing to do with the virus. And she’s turning six this week so she’s a little bit older and she does know all of her letter sounds for the most part but if I asked her the four sounds that S makes she would look at me funny I’m sure. Seeing an actual lesson is just cold. So I just appreciate it beyond words. I feel like I would be learning a lot and one of the questions I have is does the teachers guide tell me exactly what to do because you make it look so easy and you seem so knowledgeable. And then my other only hangup is I really do want her to learn cursive first but I had chosen and italics program or they’re basically writing their lower case letters first in italics so they’re kind of like a little bit of a fancy lower case letter word has a little tail here and there and then eventually they connect those to make herself and I like that step-by-step gradual process of that. Because she’s been right in capital letters for a long time and she can also write lowercase. Her lower case letters aren’t great she always defaults to upper case when she’s writing cards which is one of her favorite things to do to send to people. So I’m wondering if the curse of processes gradual or they only learn cursive because you said you have to choose. But the one thing that made my heart just really solidify that I think I need to try this as our top choice is the singing part because she absolutely loves music and singing and even if she sitting at her craft table she sits in seeing songs that she makes up about what she’s doing and I think it would really resonate with her and she loves games. So thanks a lot yay.

    Wow! Thank you so much for this. I’m currently trying to decide between this and All about reading. This was so fantastic to see!! I’m worried my girl will get confused teaching that one letter such as “A” has so many sounds.
    How do they know to sound out “cat” after hearing that “A” says all the different sounds? Genuine question 😊

    • @larachomout8029
      @larachomout8029 Рік тому

      hi! Most consistently a one-syllable word, especially a CVC word (Consonant Vowel Consonant) will have the first vowel sound - which is why a lot of programs separate out the sounds and teach them separately. In this method, you're going to start with the first sound and choose what makes the most sense based on context clues and more. Eventually, as students learn spelling words, the choice of which to use while reading and spelling will come together and make much more sense. It follows a lot of the classical model of "I know this (that a makes three sounds), and later as we learn more we will be able to use those pegs of knowledge as we learn spelling rules, and discover more of our beautiful language.

    Just finding your channel and loving it!! With LOE Foundations do you go through books A, B, C, D all in one year or do them from Pre K, K and 1st? You may have talked about it and I forgot. I’m trying to decide on LOE vs The Good and The Beautiful. Is LOE better than TGTB?

      Hi. Foundations A, B, C, and D is designed for students from PreK through 1st or even 2nd grade. The pace can change if your child is already reading or a little older. You would not be able to complete Foundations in a year. Here is an article from Logic of English that may help!

    Thank you for this review! LOE can seem so daunting to me, the pages overly-detailed; it's hard for my brain to focus. Seeing a lesson played out in front of me was helpful.
    Could you please elaborate on how much lesson prep is involved? What materials would you consider optional, or what are materials I could fashion at home? My daughter reads some basic 3-letter words, though hesitantly and reluctantly. Would Foundations A be a good jumping off point for her despite entering Grade 1, not Pre-K or K?

    • @homeschoolpeace
      @homeschoolpeace  4 роки тому +6

      Hi! I typically review the lesson the night before. It just takes a few minutes to read and I pull out the cards and worksheets we will use the next day. I would say it takes me about 10 minutes total. When I first received my curriculum, I tried to read many lessons ahead and it overwhelmed me. I found just one lesson at a time worked well. Now I'm not overwhelmed at all.
      For materials, you really do need all the materials included in the Foundations A Set or Starting at Foundations B Set. Some families try to make their own phonogram cards or use their own letter tiles. When following the lessons, I'd just highly recommend just getting the full set.
      There are only two starting points in Foundations, Foundations A or Foundations B. If your student is already reading, you could take the Starting at Foundations B Assessment. assets.logicofenglish.com/downloads/Starting_At_Foundations_B.pdf
      Though my son was reading on a 1st grade level prior to starting Foundations, I still started him on Foundations A. He knew most single letter phonogram sounds, but didn't know all of them. We flew through Foundations A and then slowed down with Foundations B.
      After taking the assessment, if you see some holes, you could plan on going fast through A and going slow through B, all in the same school year. I'm so glad we didn't skip A.
      Also, LOE highly recommends starting with cursive. If you decide to go with cursive, Foundations A includes teaching uppercase cursive letters. You could use A to make sure there are no holes and to use the time to teach uppercase cursive letters.
      Foundations A Set: store.logicofenglish.com/products/foundations-a-complete-set
      Starting at Foundations B Set: store.logicofenglish.com/products/foundations-starting-at-b-set

    Hi I am looking into this program for my son who has dyslexia. I got a lot of recommendations for it but I’m just worried that it will be too complicated for me to teach since I will be homeschooling him for the first time. He has been a virtual student for the past year and a half and at the end of this year teachers were saying his reading was on level but im noticing he’s still having problems with blending sounds, changes words completely or adds words in a reading. So I’m looking for a program that is similar to all the things he would do with a specialist.
    I would like to know if this is easy to use as a parent? What grade levels do each part of this program cover? Would this be a program for someone with dyslexia?

I found shortly after that I really needed more, so I ended up having to make a second purchase. If you need to simplified the set, you should be able to go with just the teacher manual, student workbook, basic phonogram cards, and game cards. That should be able to get you started. How long did it take for you to do half a lesson vs. a whole lesson with your child?

    • @homeschoolpeace
      @homeschoolpeace  3 роки тому +1

      For my kids, a whole lesson in level A in the beginning is about 20 mins. At first it isn't hard to get through a full lesson in one sitting. As Spelling is added into the lessons, while progressing through A, lessons would take us more around 30-35 mins. If I divided it over two days, and I add in a quick review, lessons with spelling included would take about 20 mins in level A.
      It also can really depend on how young your kids are. My kids started LOE in PreK, with no previous LA lessons. If your kids are a little older, and can already read some, the lessons may move faster.
