- Larry Himmel of KFMB recruited Del Mar's leading jockey, Joel Rosario, to ride a race with a video camera mounted to his helmet. The result is a wild ride and a first for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.
Super Video and its amazing how that view shows just how fast the ground moves. I was once on board one racehorse which ran away with me and my only thought was.....dont fall off
To be a jockey, you have to be small in size and weight so the horse can carry you without much harm. If you were 6' 3", 250lbs, a horse wouldn't be able to hold you up for 9 furlongs with injuring itself... It's for the horses' sake. c:
@msjumpingqueenful Generally, they do. I guess it depends on the farm the horse you race is from. Some jockeys feel more comfortable in their own saddle, or that they're luckier, you know track superstition.
i feel so tall, lol : ) that was amazing, you could feel the power, was i the only one moving backwards and forwards with the horse?!
@jamesskater100 sweet I weight 115 everyday and my mom does not believe in me that I can be a jockey which makes me mad. I'm 20 years old and I'm a jockey in video games
it does when you were thrown from a horse aged 14 and you horse rears and lands on your face and then backs up over your chest and arm lol i am a confident rider again now but i just have issues jumping horses i am not familiar with now even all these years later, besides i think working with horses would take the enjoyment out of riding horses as a hobby :\
I hate whipps x(
@singbecause : Calling the Word Police, This is an emergency!! .. ....come in please.....Oh! Here you are, er, were, er, is? ;P
So good - so talented.
sweet! I have a dvd of the 2010 rolex and one of the cross country riders has one its awesome
@msjumpingqueenful i think its abuse to whip a horse im learning to ride a horse and i never used a whip
@TheMidnadarkness thats not too tall my friend is 5'10 and was a jockey its about weight not height
This IS (not "was") amazing footage. CBS should HAVE ( not "of") uploaded in HD. Thank you.
This is bad. SOME JOCKEYS ABUSE HORSES THE HORSES HAVE THEIR TOUNGES STUCK TO THEIR JAW
Very average jockey, sat outside the leader and made the horse work double overtime!
Wow, I don't really want to gallop yet, so this is SO cool to almost experience the real thing!
i think all jocks should wear the cameras looks sick. great tv right there
I keep expecting the back of the horse's head to smack the camera lol
My brothers horse won this race, I know because I rode him.
grrrrrrr I always wanted to be a jockey but I'm a little tall 5,4 something like that and I'm skinny, grrr that guy is lucky to be a jockey
TheMidnadarkness height is not a limit you just gotta make the weight im 5'4 and im 112
haha thats why hes a jockey they normally have to be short!
Hi 2010! I'm 14 years infron😅
I hate jumping lol my horse was a chaser and loves jumping but i hate it, i like galloping him over distance but on the flat, i jumped alot when i was a kid and it just got boring although i did take my horse over some chase fences once that a farmer nearby owned and it was pretty cool but i wouldn't want to race over those size jumps in a real race on a horse i didn't trust or know well
I am already jumping big again lol but only on my horse which is ironically the one that trampled me but i have worked hard with him and he is brilliant now, i still have scars from the fall but it wasn't that painful at all even when it happened, i think my injuries were so bad i was just numb, i just find it difficult to trust a new horse now after that since it was only my 3rd ride on my horse but who wouldn't lol
@llSzKzllHunter
ELLIS! IS THAT YOU?!
thumbs down for the double commercial
i've rode a horse while it was cantering, troting, and walking but never galloping but i'm in horse training so and next week i'm learing how to ride while the horse is galloping yay me and hopefully i'll be a jockey im 16 but who cares :P

How can they balance???
AcrostyleVlogs they hold on to the ranes
They do not hold on to the reins for balance at all. They learn to balance through experience and knowledge. Practice too.
Jockeys balance themselves with their legs and their feet firmly in the stirrups, and its not about holding onto the reins...Jockeys use center body mass to position the middle part of their body to be centered as much as possible in relation to the horse's withers and middle point of the horses back...And they don't use the reins for balance..the reins are there to control the speed and direction of the horse...Experienced riders listen and feel for what I call "body cues" from the horse as to how the horse moves under them...You have to be in sync with the horse as it trots, canters, or gallops...Just think of it like the horse is an extension of yourself and experienced riders will intuitively know how the horse moves under them...
