Hello to you at WFSB! Watching this from Perth in Australia where The Young and the Restless has been a feature of daytime TV over here as well since the 1970s. Congratulations to all on the milestone anniversary. My late mother adored this show each day and it became a lifeline for her. I, too, remain very fond of the history of this show. I loved how they wove storylines in with the present day so well for many years.
Mum had Parkinson's Disease and both of us loved discussing the stories each day! I recall the Lindsay Wells storyline with Jill and Jack....Patty shooting Jack, Katherine having her surgery, Ashley's traumatic breakdown and recovery, the Traci and Lauren days and of course Nikki and Victor. And those are a mere few snippets. You struck a chord with me. I see it still when I can and love finding old clips...I can watch episodes at night on a Smart TV now! The episodes where actors also sang songs and showed other sides to their talent were fabulous.
My late father retired in the early 90s and at first, he complained to my Mum about her watching such daytime shows. Six months later, I came home from work to see the two of them watching Y&R together and him saying "Ohh that evil, Victor!" And he would tell me what happened. He enjoyed it too! Always a fond memory and story I like to tell people.
To anyone that thinks they are "just soaps" has no idea how important they truly are to so many viewers and to how they provide such a break from often difficult lives. These shows entertain, and tell the poignant stories too. And you only need to look at any big movie star and in their resume you will usually find a daytime soap opera in there. Great work Y&R. Thanks WFSB and best wishes to you all.

Eileen Davidson will always be Kristen Dimera on Days of our Lives. That was her most memorable and iconic role.

There are no socially relevant themes today. You'd think that Sally's pregnancy would be the perfect chance to revisit what is very much on the minds of many women as they face having less rights than they did 50 years ago. Abby and Chance's biracial baby via sperm donor Devon was addressed with a brief minute conversation, resolved with Devon saying he'd be around to help the child navigate any rough patches. Instead, the plots are aimless, incomplete; conversations and tedious and repetitious. Storylines that promise excitement fizzle out. And the careers! Former artists and doctors are suddenly elevated to executive positions in prominent companies. Give me a break!
