Hello, not wishing to be unkind but you timing gears sound to be more noisy than the exhaust. Comets always make more noise than a twin from both exhaust and the timing side and if you fit a more restrictive silencer to the single it affects your power output.
    John.

Thank you John. You are right. My bike is a little noisy. I haven’t spent too much time in the timing chest and suspect it’s a little tired in there. Best wishes, Mike

Were all four of the same internal design (spiral baffle vs. straight-through)?

Hi Corey, I can't remember but I will try and look. I think they were both spiral baffle and straight through. I'm hoping to put the LOUD one back on when I get the Comet running again... just for fun ;) Best wishes for 2020, Cheers Mike

My dad's Vincent Meteor sounds like the one without the muffler! It has never been restored, but it is his favourite bike. Great videos, really interesting. Keep it up!

Did you consider trying to fit baffle pipes into the end tips? These are fairly simple tubes with holes drilled in the sides are various points. A common solution found on more modern bikes to meet noise regs. Here's an example pic: media.karousell.com/media/photos/products/2017/10/03/baffle__silencer_insert_for_d02_exhaust_1507016605_d6d91a2d.jpg

Love the no muffler sound, must try mine that wayI still haven't made the leap to join the VOC but barely rode the Comet this summer either. Cheers, JR

Hi John, hope all is well. Yes, it was a lot of fun to hear it without the muffler! I hope you get the chance to meet the Vancouver guys. They are a really nice bunch and they ride a lot. You wouldn't have to be a member of the VOC to show up either. The VOC is very good. I like the MPH magazine and the access to the club forum. It's coming up to renewal time again but I think if you join before the beginning of the new year, you will get these remaining months free. Cheers, Mike.

Definitely the last silencer you tried, it maybe a tad loud but it has the most wonderful tone on the over-run and is oh so everso much quieter than an open pipe!
I adore the looks and personality of bikes like these but believe that they should also sound as good as the look, if we over silence them, then all we hear are the mechanicals clattering away

Thanks Bob. Yes, I've noticed that I hear the clattering way more now that the quieter silencer has been fitted! I'm still in two minds about which one to keep. I might try the last one for a while and see how it goes. Cheers.
