This artwork is gorgeous! I never was interested by auction games like that but I might give it a try just to have that box in my game collection :)
Same. Economic games are usually bland and boring looking like an 18XX game but this is nice.
Nice rundown. I was interested in this game due to the upcoming expansion that will be on Kickstarter this month. I expect there will be an “all in” situation where I can get this AND the expansion. Looks super interesting!
Great rundown, I can’t wait to play
I can't wait for this game!!
quick question about counting up victory points at the end.... for each town it says on the town card "+2 with railroad". so how do I add this up? Do I take one of the town cards, and then if I have a town card that has 5 VP on it. does that mean I get 5 VP PLUS 2 VP for every single Railroad? and then when I count the points for the next card which is say a 4 VP town, do I count 4 VP, PLUS another 2 VP for EACH railroad again? DO I include each railroad I have everytime I count up the VP's for each town?
sorry to say it's been many years since i played the prototype of this game, so i can't really weigh in. but if you ask here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/254386/raccoon-tycoon/forums/66 you're sure to get a solid answer! :)
I should have known to watch your review first. The last one I watched, the creator directly requested an edit due to a rule change to improve gameplay and the person said there was no real point now x.x
Thanks for the rundown. The artwork on the box is exquisite! What did Jen say when she saw it?
words to the effect of "wow!" iirc :)
:)
It would be great if you would mention the publisher and designer in all your rundowns (and runthroughs).

intesting game and great artwork.
Interesting. looks very busy and you can really mess with the game if you try and bigfoot the market on a certain good. I notice NO track for logging points and most games like generally have a point track specially for a what looks like a large scoring game. Notepad or scorepad can work too and worth making to put in game if the point track is too expensive to work with. Great artwork and definitely removes the building railway part to deal more with the stock market side. I hope launch goes well, I may get a copy when she comes to market, bit of a board game geek myself. If you need any feedback poke me anytime btw ;).
Still curious to how it will really play with two....Think I might have to skip it.....
I love that idea.... If you don't mind I may post that on BGG to see what others think....

Ive played the prototype and it is very good with 2.
Great optional rule.
Adding to the official rules.
WTF does this have to do with raccoons
raccoon tycoon is one of the 6 rail lines you can invest in
So...this game has nothing to do with raccoons at all. The word is only in the title of the game because it rhymes with "tycoon?"
the "raccoon tycooon" rail line is one of the investments you can make in the game, along with "fat cat", "top dog", "big bear", "sly fox" and "skunkworks" rail
rahdo But isn't that just a cutsey name for an industry that still has nothing to do with actual trash pandas? Now if it were a game about establishing the best pest control business...
I really like the look of this. Shame it doesn`t look as though it`ll reach it`s KS goal :(
???? It went live like 15 minutes ago.
O.o can't tell if troll or just stupid...
I didn`t realise. I just looked at the number of backers...I backed it anyway. On the positive side, this is the first time I`ve been the target of personal abuse, so - welcome to the internet me. What next? Death threats? Will I come home and find the cat hanging from the lampshade?
Nik Holliday don't look behind you 😈
lol no, it just seemed like you were downplaying the campaign during their first hours of being live. On a funnier note, my cat already hangs from the lampshade all the time, which is why we can't have nice things :-)
For $50 i would expect anything other than paper money. Ill Pass.
Magdiel Escobar It's too good of a game to just pass on it due to paper money.
Christopher Wood
For $50 dollars i expect everything to be good quality and not have to rely on stretch goals.
Magdiel Escobar there are many many games that cost $50 that have much worse components. The average medium sized game right now is going for around $50.
If they reach 50K the paper money is upgraded it'd be easy to do if they were an established company. I'm guessing they're a new and smaller company so it might be hard to reach but they will probably reach their modest goal of 25K. There's also a premium level that comes with metal coins which is $20 more, it cost $15 to get a set of 20 metal coins for The Omen Saga Campaign, so it seems like a good deal. I mean considering that this game probably has more than 20 notes of paper money the deal is probably good. And metal coins aren't cheap take a look at the premium coins in the Heart Of Crown campaigns, yikes!!! But in general most games no matter how great come with cheapo money take a look at Millennium blades, cheap money but great game. I think if you want some nice metal money that will accommodate probably all of your games then get a Set of Custom Metal Kickstarter Coins for Scythe (80 pcs) it's cheap for a metal coin set and you can buy the $50 denomination separate if needed. If you want to go the cheapest route just buy poker chips you can go low budget or get some real nice ones.
I'm tempted to back this game considering that economic games don't really interest me. Empires by Wizkids seemed like it could be good but I'm not hyped enough for it. And there's Incorporated which Tom Vasel seemed to really like but I was meh on it. And there's Speculation which doesn't look that good. And there's Stockpile which might be good but the theme don't interest me. And there's an old copy of monopoly Deal in my closet that's been outplayed and well loved but I need something more meaty. I never really considered getting an actual economic game, not sure if Scoville counts as an economic game but that enticed me a bit but I never bought it. I tend to prefer games that are medium weight in general and I like the theme in this so yeah I might buy. But there's also Who Goes There which looks good considering I don't care for social deduction games too much lol.
Paper money....really....
It works...really. (AND In the KS, we have stretch goals that upgrade it, and an add-on for metal animal coins.)
Paper money NEVER works. Having to pay extra to get a functional game is a real bummer.
We have also added an early stretch goal that will upgrade the money to currency quality. We also have a late stretch goal to upgrade the money to a highly durable plastic card stock.
During our playtests, the paper money worked REALLY well for this game. The only issue that we saw was durability...thus the stretch goals.
Stretch goals aren't guaranteed to be hit. I've played a lot of games with paper money, and it is literally the worst component ever invented. It never, ever works in a game it slows games down, and it just doesn't last. If you hit the stretch goals and get better quality money in the game, I may take a second look, but as of now paper money is a pass.
Understood. We made sure that the currency upgrade was set to a very achievable level, and given how many gamers feel about it, if we somehow didn't hit that level, we would very likely just do it anyway. Our objective is to have a very high quality production. We don't want a low-end component in the game.
