- On this episode, Riley chats with sprint phenom Sha’Carri Richardson. Sha’Carri made world headlines in June 2019 when she ran a 10.75 100m as a freshman at LSU, smashing the collegiate record and paving the way for her to turn professional shortly after.
Riley speaks with Sha’Carri about her transition from college into the pros, and the higher stakes involved with being a professional athlete in a professional training environment. Sha’Carri talks about the Olympics postponement to 2021 and how that might benefit her as a new professional - another year in the system and another year with her new coach, Dennis Mitchell.
Riley also asks Sha’Carri about her source of energy - she’s known for her high intensity in practices and has a contagious exuberance.

I find it funny that some people call her arrogant and hope for her downfall. She seems sweet, and authentic, and enthusiastic as well as confident and motivated. This was a very good interview, good questions, good convo and good energy.
They say that because they lack the confidence and the ability to do what she does. She always says don't put me in a box because you didn't set goals, and didn't do what I can do at this age. I hope she never loses her confidence. 🙏🏽

She still exudes quite a bit of nervous energy and jitters during interviews but she is continuing to mature as an individual and as an athlete. Her potential is limitless.
She wants to be true to herself, speak correctly and be professional. I hear a learning curve which is good that she is intentionally giving attention to her interview style.
Never fear a person who knows 1000 moves but always fear a person who knows one move and does it 1000 times.

BRIGHT BRIGHT young women. I like her hunger attitude to prepare to strive for the best! Love it. Will be cheering for her!
After her one of her Olympic qualifications (June 2021) she disclosed that her biological mother has died the week before, along with other difficulties and pain “y’all didn’t know about” and that she would NOT allow to hold her back. She was dressed “flamboyantly” and like a beautiful bird, flying through the race.... HER PERSONAL STRENGTH AND HER STATEMENT AFTER THE RACE, ending with “and I’m truly blessed and (full of gratitude)” seem to be both inborn and cultivated in her to grow. A lot of it seems to be her giving glory to God, and it makes me want to believe. She’s determined to have her life, respect others having theirs, but to demand that she gets respect too, or if not then so what... She will show the world no matter what challenges she faces. Her time in that race would’ve been a world record not only a personal best but the commentators did note a significant headwind started with the race and thus no world record time was likely to be possible. She still won incredibly fast, and she is SUCH a contender in her sport, PLUS such an inspirationally strong individual. She ends this interview urging us all to be KIND TO OTHERS, which we should never underestimate the value of, no matter how small or easy it’s been to be kind (smile, give a compliment, give some encouragement), ways which “creates the perfect grace.”’ Love her as a human.

She just ran 10.72 last week. I knew she could run faster than 10.75 she slowed down at the end in that race

@@rebeltvr6046 Of course everyone doesn't go through her exact situations. That being said, if she was intent on killing herself, she would be dead. Levels of depression(s) vary from individual to individual. Most folks deal with depression sub-consciously... its symptoms manifesting in a myriad of ways. This young lady's issues are simply out there now for everyone to expose and comment about... most folks issues are not. And, she has demonstrated how most folks still persevere through whatever level of depression is experienced. And, she has persevered beyond simply just surviving. Despite her depression, she has maintained an amazing success.

The delay in Olympics would definitely work against the likes Shelley Fraser Pryce who at 34 will struggle to win the Olympics this year and may have mentally prepared to retire last year if the Olympics had taken place. Marie-José Ta Lou would be about 32. Elaine Thompson approaching 30.
Yeah, ShaCarri will have to worry more about Dina Asher and less about SAFP and ET.
Na I think Shelly and Elaine will still be up there to contend... these girls have longevity and experience

The muscle and speed memory that is retained by Jamaican athletes is phenominal. Merlene Ottey was running Olympic qualifiers all thru her 40's post retirement. That being said , Shellyann is still the 100 favourite going in but DAMN Sha'carri is quick!!. She is pure GOLD.
