So the lead screw translates through the body of the screw jack. After selecting the drive unit, it is important to check whether the worm gear screw jack or any transmission components may be overloaded by the drive unit. So, determining the buckling load is an important step in screw sizing. The buckling load can easily be calculated based on the screw’s root diameter, unsupported length, and end bearing configuration: the maximum compressive load "Fc" is equal to the end bearing factor "fb" multiplied by the ratio between root diameter of screw "d1" and the unsupported length "L" squared, then multiplied by 10 raised to the fourth.
