Happy New Year, lovelies! ♥️May 2022 bring you peace and joy. ♥️
i'm beginning to think we have a running gag going on
Back at you!!!✨✨✨
Happy New Year Emmy 🎆🎊
There is no god and no Santa. I asked god and Santa for one thing this Xmas woke up and you were not under my tree my sadness was great my heart broken to pieces so very painful. Why do you have to be so pretty and you can cook 👩🍳 also. If you like sci fi movies horrors and animals we where made for each other 🌹🎄☺️🥰👩🍳
Happy New Year!
"It's what a hostess chocolate cupcake wants to be when it grows up." That had me crying!
A very profound statement
Also now I must have this cake and 🥛
Both are Detroit made products (at least the originals were!), which Emmy didn't mention! 😥I grew up having this cake, and I love it. I wasn't sure about the recipe, because the cake didn't quite get the look, but Emmy's description of the taste hit every note I remember from my childhood! I'm definitely gonna try this one!
you need to get out more x
Did....did she really just throw shade? 🤔
You know it’s good when Emmy takes a second bite without talking!
I laughed out loud... everything came to a standstill as she dug in again!
I thought the same thing!!
For a minute I thought I lost the sound!! 🤣
I was stunned at two, but she continued on to take SIX bites!!!
Instead of the high pitched, "It's good!" Followed by explaining the strange textures and tastes she's trying to respectfully acquire "rather than of immediately calling it bad"
Actually, use slow motion. She hated the cake and did many sad faces, but had to show us like it was yummy. Pretty funny really.
This cake is a pretty big deal here in Michigan. My dad gets one almost every year for his birthday.
Michigan ❤️ I live in Grand Rapids 🥰
Yes! ❤️
Wholesome comment section ❤️
YASSS I’m from downriver Michigan, and I LOVE BUMPY CAKE!!
I was going to say that too! You can find these everywhere in Michigan. I moved to Virginia a year ago and I noticed the lack of bumpy cakes here 😅
Emmy! You’ve had our pizza, you’ve had our cake… come visit us in Detroit! We love you!
That cake looks pretty fresh for being 100 years old! 😳🍰
bad um tss
@@citrusbutter7718 loool
@@citrusbutter7718 racist cake
@@citrusbutter7718 Dark pans heat differently, usually getting hotter, faster.
Think of it as if you went outside in Summer, under the Sun, with a black shirt one day, and a white shirt the next. Even if the temperature is the same both days, you'll feel hotter much sooner in the black shirt than you will in the white shirt.
@@citrusbutter7718 Yes, that's a very good comparison as well! There's some ways around it, like dropping the temperature by 25 degrees and extending cook time, but these can be very finicky and still not get the same results.
It can't be just me thinking directly when she say she will use mixer "bet she have not plugged it in" 😂
cake looks amazing
For reals. 🤦🏻♀️
as she pulled it out I instantly said that 😂😂
Battery powered KitchenAid stand mixers when?
(They have rechargeable hand mixers if I'm not mistaken)
🤣 I expect it and may be a little sad if she remembers to have it plugged in and the power strip on. It's become a tradition at this point. 🥰
🙋♀️ Yep! Another michigander here to say just how iconic this cake is in our area, particularly the metro Detroit area. 💜 First D-town style pizza, now bumpy cake?! Someone please get Emmy some Better Made and Faygo!
Yessss Emmy please try better made chips
And let's not forget Faygo pop!
We have faygo here in Pittsburgh! I had no idea it was a Michigan thing.
@@user-qd1by3kp6g it is made in Detroit and pretty popular all around Michigan. I've seen it as far south as Rome, GA but other than that I'm not sure where else you can find it. I'm curious how many flavors you guys have or how easy it is to find in your area?
@@brieezy373 it’s mostly sold in local grocery stores and convenient stores, not big chains like Walmart or Target. As for flavors, we have your typical cola, grape, orange, lemon lime, etc. the “craziest” flavor I’ve seen here is cotton candy! It’s one of my faves 🤤
Sifting the confectioner's sugar would make the ganache topping even smoother and glossier!
Thanks I missed her mixing up the chocolate frosting and was wondering what those white specks were.
Growing up in Michigan Bummpy cake was a must at birthdays.
Every year. I'm home for the holidays and just polished off half a bumpy cake. My first in years!!! 😋
The silence when she tried this cake. Speaks a thousand words. She was speechless
As a Detroiter you have NO idea how excited I was when I got this notification
👏🏼 And I can't believe I'm just learning about bumpy cake?!
@@emmymade Sanders hot fudge sauce is another must have, Emmy.
Another favorite cake of ours by Sanders used to be their colonial buttercream cake.
Me too, Luke! I immediately shared this with my Mom.
@@cck6740 me too! Lol
I’m from Michigan and coincidentally, I bought a Sanders bumpy cake today!
I’m from the Detroit area and this is an iconic symbol! I remember eating bumpy cake with my grandmother over 50 years ago!
There's a historic Detroit company called Sanders (pronounced Saunders lol) that is known for making delicious bumpy cake 😋 among other delicous confections. I grew up on their cakes.
I’ve always said Saunders, but I happened upon the FAQ on their website not too long ago and was surprised to learn that they pronounce it Sanders. I keep trying to say Sanders instead of Saunders now, but I can’t break myself of the habit haha.
This recipe is based on the recipe from the same Detroit company!! It's one of the old school Detroit classics 😀
The Hot Fudge sauce (and the iconic Hot Fudge Cream Puff) is the absolute BEST! My particular favorite was their caramel cake.
@@noelletatro44 this is just like Lasher versus Lahser 😂
I think the Saunders pronunciation is like Lasher for Lahser Rd. Wrong, but half the population says it!
Bumpy cake is a Michigan DELICACY!! And we eat it literally whenever we want, but especially at birthday parties. I usually buy mine from Sams club 😂😍😍
Wait are you saying they still sell this cake in the Detroit area???
@@KayDurrant absolutely. Just bought one at Kroger the other day and one at Meijers today to take home with me to Massachusetts!
@@KayDurrant they’re usually in the frozen cakes area at Kroger
The quintessential Detroit dessert!
Okay I'm from Detroit Michigan and if we don't have a bumpy cake and her house my grandmother who is 97 years old will have a fit. Keep up the great work women and I enjoy everything you do. Keep a smile on that beautiful face of yours Happy New Year
I'm from Detroit too and this brought back great memories. Every once in a while we would buy the caramel bumpy cake.
Thanks so much🧡 and your grandmother is a smart lady.🧡 Happy New Year to you!
@@cck6740 there's a caramel bumpy cake !!!?!!!
@@cck6740 I have never heard of the carmel bumpy cake??? How did I miss that. Sounds delicious!
does anyone remember if emmy has made a tunnel of fudge cake? it’s one of my favorites i feel like no one talks about it!
Ooo...not yet.
Tunnel of fudge used to be my favorite cake. Haven't had it in 30 years. 😋
What is that?
Thankfully I live only a couple miles away from the Sanders chocolate factory where they make bumpy cakes. I love them! I’ve never thought to look for a recipe but I’m definitely going to attempt making my own now:)
Let me know what you think!
"Time for cake."
Omg! I've been eating this for years. I've never had it fresh, but the stuff they sell in the store is my favorite cake ever.
Bumpy cake forever!
I came home to Michigan for the holidays. Michigan is the home of Sander's and this cake. I polished off at least half a bumpy cake this week. No regrets. This was my childhood birthday cake every year.
Hey, I'm from Detroit! We still get bumpy cake for people's birthdays pretty regularly. It's definitely up there in my favorites
You know it’s good when Emmy has to take another bite before talking!!
I bet this would be lovely made into a layered cake! Make the bumps on top in concentric circles and have the chocolate drip down the sides! Fill the middle with cream and berries!
A lady at my childhood church used to make this cake for potlucks and I LOVED it. I completely forgot about it until I saw this! I have her recipe and it’s pretty much the same. I’m going to try it!
As a midwestern, I clicked RIGHT AWAY. Love you, Emmy! Thanks for showing me my favorite cake ever!❤❤
It was my (and my family's) pleasure. 😋
Watching you enjoy this cake is a love letter to my home state of Michigan. ❤️
Sander's Bumby Cake is still a family favorite and loved by many all over southern Michigan!
They sell these at the store by me! They're so good that I always have to stop myself from buying one weekly mmm
emmy, i have a cookbook my mom found some where and the original publish date was 1901, i think. im going to go see how similar your recipe is to the one in my book. love you channel. you are so genuine!
Did you try it yet?
OMG! She's going in for a second bite before critiquing her creation!? It must be good! LoL
Can we take a sec to appreciate how clearly emmy speaks? i turned ccs on to eat breakfast and the automatic captions were perfect
I want to call this a "Speed Awareness Course Cake", cos of the speedbumps in it... :D
Aka defensive driving cake
Sleeping policemen cake!
To increase the cocoa flavor in the cake, just bloom the powders with HOT coffee instead of cold.
This looks so yummy. As mini cakes in muffin tins, a big dab of frosting and fudge over the top.
You know it's good if Emmy takes two bites before she says anything!
Oh it would be cool to make cupcakes with this. I usually use an apple corer to take the core out of the chocolate cupcake and then pipe in white icing to make a hostess cupcake dupe.
From Detroit here ..don't ruin a good thing 😂🤣
I'm from Detroit and this brought back memories. I haven't had one in so long.
Yay! A Michigan classic! Have you tried Detroit style pizza? It's the best!
I made it here: ua-cam.com/video/w6xTJ3AKP2M/v-deo.html. SO GOOD!
Imagining the family shnuggle puddle hehe. You’re such a cool- cute mom. Your kids are going to show you off so much when they become teens 💘 I’m manifesting it!
This video brought back alot of memories, i remember this cake was pretty trendy here in Egypt in the early 2000s, nowadays i dont see it at all.
Emmy, I’m so glad you made this cake! I’ve made it for several of my dad’s birthdays - he grew up in Detroit, where the Bumpy Cake was born! It always gets rave reviews and even people who don’t know its origins are astonished at how good it is. This made my day! 😊
Mmmm bumpy cake is so good! Homemade looks so much more amazing than store bought!
Really some of the best chocolate cake ever. 👅
All us Michiganders in the comments are so thrilled you made such a staple of the Mitten!! It looks incredible, I want to try this recipe for our next family birthday!
If you haven’t tried the real thing, you can order online. Shipping wasn’t bad last time I ordered it. A special treat for my michiganite.
It's Michigander. There was a huge debate about that a while back and Michigander won out. The more you know!
emmy I must say that seeing you forget to plug in the hand mixer made me laugh a bit and cheered me up! love your videos
I always say: "This time for sure she remembered to turn the power on". But no... hahahaha. Love it, it's like we're the same person.
Being from Argentina I think that a layer of dulce de leche in the middle of the chocolate cake would be INCREDIBLE (yes, we use it on everything!).
You are one of the youtubers I admire the most Emmy!
WOW! It must be really GOOD cake ‘cause Emmy ate two whole bites before she said anything!
Thank you for recreating a gem of Michigan history!!!
It was my pleasure. 😊
Someone please get Emmy a glass of milk. She seems to be struggling. That’s alot if drama and emotion for a piece of cake. Glad you loved it! Looks like must try 😊
As a Detroiter, we’ve been buying these all 47 years of my life! I challenge you Emmy, if you can replicate Sanders Caramel Bumpy cake, you’ll be my hero!!!
Bumpy cake from Sanders! Brings back so many memories of eating them as a kid. I don't eat a lot of sweets anymore but eating a homemade one instead of store bought is making me consider giving it a go. 😋
The silence after that second bite speaks volumes. Emmy LIKES this cake & from that response, I can't wait to try it!
I love Saunders' bumpy cake!!
I was thinking also of a Hostess ho ho cupcake right before Emmy described this cake as a grown up version!!
That shiny frosting!!
Love the way you're kinda forced to pause after the first bite. Same here, you want to say how good it is but you're just able to joyful head shaking, humming and taking the next bite...😄
Growing up in the Detroit area of Michigan, this was a staple of my childhood. I sometimes forget that Sanders is so local that many have never tried it. We can find these cakes in every grocery store, and their headquarters are less than 10 miles from my house. Their hot fudge sauce is also amazing.
Living in Michigan, I was excited to see Sanders Bumpy cake recipe. We often buy Sanders Bumpy cakes at the grocery store. It'll be fun to try and make one at home.
I live in Canada across the river from Detroit. Growing up we always took the tunnel bus to Detroit and went to the Sander's store to pick up a Bumpy cake to bring home. I haven't had one for about 5 years now but we bought it in the frozen section at a grocery store. Thaws out perfectly and tastes so good.
All these comments of this recipe being from Michigan sent me down the rabbit hole and now I'm considering ordering from the bakery locally famous for them. Thanks Emmy for always being willing to try new and different things!🌹
This totally reminds me an old school entenmann’s sheet cake 🍰
It comes boxed very similarly when you buy the Sanders one. It's sold in grocery stores just like Entenmanns.
Bumpy cakes were always a delight to have as a kid. I remember specifically asking for bumpy cake to be at special occasions
When Emmy is speechless on the first bite, then you know it's good!
Ahh a fresh Emmy vid. What a way to round off the end of the year!
We had a grocery store called Grand Union and the bakery made mini bumpy cakes that were my children's favorite. Every birthday we had bumpy cakes. Good memories.
Happy New Year Emmy ! The fact that you say nothing and go in for a second bite says it all ! Hoping you and your family have a wonderful and prosperous year ahead !
Emmy, I wish my husband would look at me like you look at that cake !! 🤣🤣 I totally making this for the next birthday!!
Michigan girl here to say THANK YOU! We haven’t been able to find our favorite bumpy cake here in Reno so now I can make it!!!
This is the first time I’ve ever seen Emmy take two bites before commenting. I gotta try this cake!
One of my first memories of Sanders was going to the one on The Hill in Grosse Pointe Farms with my mother. It was like an old-fashioned soda fountain which also serves sandwiches and desserts. We would order this cake and they would give us water in V-shaped paper cups with a metal holder. They also had excellent hot fudge sundaes and grilled cheese sandwiches! For many years on my birthday I would request this cake!

PS: I'm loving the addition of the Chapter links in the description!
Love the piano background music!
If you live in Michigan you know this cake. Think the chocolate icing should have been mixed more and looks a little thin.
Happy New Year's Emmy! Wishing you the best in 2022!❤
Emmymade is the best and most joyful cook on UA-cam. She is literally a role model! I made a channel (Cooking With Tim) that is aspiring to make content that will inspire as well! Love this!!! Thank you for your inspiration!
*I got hungry alone from looking at the thumbnail...* 🤤
*Happy New Year, Emmymade!* 😈🎆🎇🎆
Emmy, you did a great job. NOW you need to make this as a 2 layer cake just like the original! I grew up in Detroit having this cake every birthday. It came as a 2 layer with the cream in between the layers and bumpy stripes on top. The whole cake was enrobed with the fudge! It changes the whole taste to have the cream in the middle. Interesting fact….you couldn’t get it in the summer because it would melt! Good luck!
Chocolate cake!. Great way to close out the year. Heard of bumpy cake but never seen it.
My great grandmother made a very similar cake. She frosted it with what we called 'grandma's special frosting, which is now called Ermine frosting, however it only had flour, not cornstarch and is an amazing frosting. Great grandma died in 1974 at 102.
Not gonna lie, it made me giggle when you said "shnuggle" :D That is *adorable*! Happy new year! I hope you're all safe and well and continue to be so!
I've never seen Emmy so quiet after trying something 😂 that was like a solid 30 seconds of silence so you know that cake is good
Hey emmy. I was so blown away by your mixed greens cupcakes- that I’m trying out collard greens brownies, they are in the oven now to celebrate the new year!!I’ll post a video tomorrow
Bumpy cake definitely looks like a hostess creation
This Michigan native thanks you for the recipe. As a child, I remember going to Sanders and enjoying a slice of bumpy cake at the soda fountain. 😋
Oooh this one looks so good!
Emmy, I'm always curious what happen to all the food they you make on videos? It mush be really lovely to be in your household ❤
She said awhile back that she gives a lot to her neighbors. That's what I remember from when she got packages from different countries to taste test, and it was way too much for her family to eat it all.
@5:12 Emmy forgetting to plug or turn on power source is always the highlight it's hilariously relatable.
I didn't read all the comments, but I'm from the Detroit area where this was created. They now make "bumpy cake" cupcakes!! Use the white frosting as a swirled topper, then pour the Choc ganache frosting over it. AMAZING! And portion controlled. LOL
Lol the way she took that second bite, starred off into some distant corner And slowly slide the fork out of her teeth... killed me 🤣 😂 😅
Yummy! I love white frosting with chocolate. YoYo Max! Haven't visited her in awhile. She always has great stuff too. If this cake is super moist that is the bomb. My daughter who loves chocolate..it was one of her first words many years ago lol...won't eat chocolate homemade cake because she says it's dry. I've told her it doesn't have to be. I always use sour cream in my cakes. Even boxed. Thanks Emmy. I can't believe I got so far behind!😧🙏🍫
I've never seen Emmie so quiet when she first tastes something. It must be great. I wish I was a neighbor, they must get lots of leftovers. :)
My mom used to always make her vanilla frosting like that. I appreciated that it wasn’t sickening sweet.
I moved to Detroit a year and a half ago, and have come to love bumpy cake. Had it for my last birthday.
I love seeing your reaction when you taste something REALLY good. You didn't need to even say anything after those first two bites. The look said it all.
I love when Emmy made something really tasty and she eats it: the looks on her face alone are worth 1,000 words!
;=8)
YYESES MOMMAA your reaction🤣 and it’s rare you take a second bite without explaining, I knew you were LOVIN IT now I gotta go make it 😫😤 thank you so much for sharing!!
I had to rewind it three times before I saw the big hole. LOL 🤣😂🤣❤️
When she goes back for a second bite without saying a word, you KNOW it's good.
It was always special here in Detroit to get Sanders Bumpy Cake or their Hot Fudge Cream Puffs. They have been closing outlets and really are left with only 2 "stores" in the area. One of which is Morley's another confectioner place with great treats that bought out Sanders years back. Great that you have a recipe for it. I will have to make it soon.
I grew up in Detroit and a Sanders Bakery was on the corner, that cake is still best chocolate cake I've ever eaten.
I’m currently in bed with COVID….now I want cake! 😁
You know you are a real fan when you know in advance that she will forget to plug in the mixer.
She's so relatable ♥️ love her!
