      @@jimmyg7159 It is normal. Runs constantly. It's not as loud as it seems in this video though. I didn't have any audio equipment yet and so the phone picked up the sound of the fan really well. It doesn't bother me at all and I have never had anyone complain about the noise.

    My real estate agent got me this when I bought my house as a housewarming gift. I have never smoked before. 8 months after getting it, I'm using it for the first time. A bit nervous making sure I do everything right, including the burn-off. I appreciate this video because it helps explain this smoker without having to read through the tedious instructions. Wish me luck as I cook this pork loin today!

    You didnt mention my favorite feature: The Convection style cooking! Its an upgrade from the last pit boss copper version. I upgraded to this from another brand vertical smoker because I was constantly rotating stuff from top to bottom because of them cooking at different rates. @reginaldjones9412 2 роки тому +2

    Hello love your videos! I have been a egg head for years, but I decided to try the pit boss because of the set it and forget it controls. I noticed your smokers temperature control is in 25-50 degree Increments. That was one of the main reasons why I was skeptical about buying the pit boss vertical smoker but I decided to buy it anyway. I have to say I was very surprised and shocked that my unit’s Control panel actually worked in 10° increments. Wasn’t sure if you were aware of this or not so I decided to send you a message. Thanks and keep up the great videos

    Got this smoker this weekend (thanks to my amazing family!) !!! Did a 10.5 lb brisket with dry rub. If you use the meat probe, make sure you put it in a good spot or you'll see some high temps. Also, like he says, the temps are a bit lower than you'd calculate. I pulled at 187 to rest it, but most likely got more like 182. Let it sit in a few degrees longer and you'll get the fat to render better. Still turned out amazing with some great smoke rings! Second shot will amazing!!!

      Yeah, I thought the same thing when I purchased mine. I think it may hold 12 neatly trimmed saint Louis style racks. Maybe?!?! But the only way it’s holding what they say it will is if you just stacked the meat.
      Great unit though. The most racks I’ve ever smoked is 8. 2 per shelf. Just make sure to alternate the front and back rack a couple times. The back of the chamber is hotter.

    Your reviews on this have been very helpful. You raised a lot of good points. I haven't purchased a new unit yet. I'm still considering a vertical or grill-style pellet smoker or a gravity-feed smoker. Did you look at other options and why did you like this one more?

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  2 роки тому +2

      I looked at all other options. I chose the chamber style smoker because of the increased amount of cooking space. I’m old-school when it comes to steaks/burgers/wings and such. If I want a sear on something I’m going to do it over hot charcoal. That’s why I chose not to get the barrel type smoker with the sear plate. I like that my unit can run for several days without stopping on a full hopper of pellets if need be. The gravity fed charcoal unit seem to go through charcoal pretty quickly. I can also get charcoal pellets to put into this unit if I want some charcoal flavor.
      I hope this answers your question. If you’re not already , it would be great to have you as a subscriber to the channel.

    How do you do a first burn when machine is new?

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  2 роки тому

      Fill hopper with pellets, power on, hold prime butting until you hear pellets falling into burn pot. Continue to hold for another minute or two. Turn temp to 350 or higher and let run for 30-60 minutes.
      Make sure to have your chamber door open until you start to have smoke rolling. Then you close the door and crank up the heat.
      This burns off the impurities.

      You may have your grease catch tray in backwards. There is a spacer on the backside that looks just like a handle. It’s not. It f that spacer is facing forward the grease will run through the air vents and into your lower chamber.

    I’m a new owner of a smoker. I can’t wait to start using it. However, I have a question about the meat probe. How do you use the probe? The manual doesn’t explain use of the probe. For instance, how do you get the probe inside where the meat is cooking? Someone told me that you run it in through the door. I didn’t think that was right because it looks like that would interfere with the seal around the door. The control panel show mpc and mp. How do you use these? And my smoker came with one probe. Please help me figure this out. Thanks!

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  3 роки тому +1

      A few easy fixes. You definitely run it through the door. The seal is soft and closes with no problem. You received 1 probe. There are two ports. Port one is programable. I’m going to make a video soon about how to properly operate the control panel and use the probes properly. I hope this helps.

      There is not. The burning pellets are the source of the heat.

    Is it normal for this smoker to leak a fair amount of smoke at the top right corner, and along the right side of the door. Maintains temps ok, but has noticeable smoke leaks in a few areas along the right side door seal.

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  2 роки тому

      Not normal but not unheard of. Some get thicker seal strip and some use aftermarket latches to improve the seal. A little smoke isn't going to hurt anything, but if your loosing a lot of heat, that may be a problem.

  • @116BW

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  2 роки тому

      Yes. The source of the heat is the pellets it’s burning. The only way to keep the pellets burning is with the fan. It controls the heat by putting more or less pellets into the firebox. It’s actually a pretty efficient design.

    I have an electric smoker that uses wood chips, obviously if you want less smoke, you use less chips because you have an element for a heat source. I don’t like an overwhelming taste of smoke on the meat obviously on a pellet smoker you are using the pellets for your heat source and smoke flavor but I am curious as to how strong the smoke flavor that a pellet smoker produces and how to control it with cooking, low and slow?

    • @TheAmericanSmoke

      I don’t. That was my first Turkey and I like to have some experience before I make a video. I did not brine. Unless it’s a wild Turkey, they are usually pre-brined. Read the label to make sure yours is. I did make a creole butter injection and I injected. Turned out great. I wrapped my Turkey in butcher twine to avoid drying out the legs and wings. I may not do this on my next bird. I like that dark meat to be falling off the bone. Wrapping left a bit more pull to the dark meat, considering I pulled the bird once the breast reached 165 IT. After it wouldn't. It keeps going up and up until I plug in the mp thermometer. Then it goes up and down and finally gets to my set temperature and stops. By then I lost 45 min of pellets. No chips, no crushed charcoal. This unit is made specifically for pellets. Lucky for you, Pit Boss has charcoal pellets! I’m the same way as you. I like that charcoal flavor. There are a wide variety of different types of pellets you can use for different wood flavors as well. I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you have any other questions. I got one on my birthday back in March, very disappointed so far. I used it 2 times first time was a little cold out and i got a late start so wasn't able to finish cooking on it so I moved to my grill. 2nd time all bad had put 40lb of pellet in the hopper and started it up and few hours later found the fire back fed into the hopper and lost $40 worth of pellets thats when i found out that pellet swell and it has a hard time with them feeding, so i am going to try again this time only putting in a little bit of pellets hopefully things workout this time.

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  3 роки тому

      I wonder why your pellets swelled? Did you leave them in there for a long time? From what you said, it sounds like you had just put them in there. I usually fill mine half way and I have not had any problems. I would say to just monitor your unit regularly and if you think there is an issue with the pellets feeding into the burn pot, hold the auger button for about a minute to force feed the pellets. This is also a good way to get a faster increase in temp. Good luck on your next cook. Thanks for watching my video and for commenting. It would be great to have you as a subscriber! Thanks!!!'

      If there is going to be much more than a week between cooks, I would recommend emptying the pellets out of the smoker And putting them in an airtight container. Keep me posted on how your unit performs. I hope you don’t have any more trouble.

    big enough for a full packer brisket?

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  3 роки тому

      A typical brisket is around 20 inches. This unit is a little wider than that. If yours is butchered up a little longer, you could trim it up or stick it in the smoke and and let the slow heat shrink it and be just fine. I hope this helps. Hey there friend! After every lengthy cook. Maybe don’t worry about it after some wings or something like that but definitely after cooks longer than 3 hrs. Honestly though, it’s really easy. Keeping it clean almost eliminates the problem of pellets getting ignited around the auger. I hope this helps.

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  2 роки тому

      That’s a negative ghost rider! Burning pellets are the heat source for this unit. There is a small ignition element that lights the pellets but that’s it.
      It can run at 130 on the Smoke setting or 150 at the lowest cook setting. But, there will always be some smoke. Just wrap your food in foil and rock on!

      I have never had that problem, but I have the original version. You are about the 4th person to report this problem on the newer units. Some people add thicker sealer stripping and some add aftermarket latches above and below the original.

    Good morning , i purchased it few months ago after used Masterbuilt electrical for a year +
    when i did my first salmon i was very bad surprised. The taste was almost like in the oven without any smoke. Tried to dig a little in the forums to see why is it and so that pellet smoker indeed less aggressive than wood/electrical. i tried to use the pellet tube in addition , but still, the gap was so far... Dont know, maybe i am doing something wrong? The air inside smoker was absolutely clear during the smoking. i used 220 degrees temperature. Can u help me, currently i am absolutely down with this model.

My question is that the air inside the smoker was absolutely clear like at the early morning (with taste of smoke, but clear), is it ok?

    Could I smoke two full packer briskets at the same time? How many racks of ribs at once?

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  3 роки тому

      Honestly, you may have to do a little trimming on the briskets. Turning them at an angle may allow for them to fit though. If you get them to fit on the rack then you could potentially smoke 4 at once. It’s really going to depend on the width of the brisket. The amount of ribs that pit Boss claims will fit on the smoker is a little crazy. I think they say 12 or more but I think 2 per rack would fit nicely. St Louis- style ribs anyway. I hope this helps. How long should the auger be on for at a time? Is it a min or more or less? Sometimes mine goes on for 20 seconds and other times a min.

    • @TheAmericanSmoke
      @TheAmericanSmoke  3 роки тому

      Hey my friend! It all depends on what the pit bull a trying to do. If it's just maintaining a steady temp with a closed door, it's going to need less pellets. If it is trying to raise the temp it will run for longer. This is going to be effected by the temp outside as well. Some pellets burn hotter than others too so it will not need as many. I hope this answers your question. Let me know. Thanks for watching my video and for commenting. It would be great to have you as a subscriber. Thanks!!!

      It really all depends on outside temp. If its cold out close it a little more and if it's hot out open it up more. Thermodynamics and hot air rising and such. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
