When I became an ovo-lacto vegetarian in 1994, few people where I live in the upper Midwestern rust belt were aware of vegetarianism, and even vegetarians thought vegans were _superweird_ people that lived on ashrams in northern California and lived off of tinned wheat meat. But now, random people on the street know what veganism is and have thought it over. The common knowledge of veganism is much more prevalent than even 5 years ago. You're a natural at this, Duncan, because your demeanor is benevolent and your voice is kind; as a film maker, you know how to relate to folks. TFP!

You have an aura about you that just makes people feel so comfortable! This was the least confronting street interview typa thing I've ever seen. You rock Duncan!
How did doing street activism make you feel? Uncomfortable? Empowered? I'd love to know!

This is great! I've been seeing a lot of Earthling Ed too hahaha and I think your approach were a lot smoother, in a way you could've taken more advantage. I think you can be more interactive, every time people say something nice, comment on it, it will certainly make them more interested in what you have to say. Go Earthling Duncan! I support it!

What really stuck out to me was the immediate "of course!" when Duncan asked "so you've broached the subject before?" I swear, everytime I see young people speaking, they always seem so kind, compassionate and thoughtful. ❤️

I wish there wasn't this misconception of a veggie lifestyle being expensive. My grocery bill between my partner and I is very little compared to when I used to eat meat milk and eggs! Vegan ism can be expensive with certain products like Mock meats, but it doesn't have to be!

Dana K honestly, it's the non-food products that can get pricey. Finding a pair of jeans without that leather thing on the back upper corner etc etc

Good for you Duncan! It's so clear that everyone has a conscious about this subject and it just takes one person to spark the idea. I really hope some of these people connect with you again to tell you they did it!
I recently went on a field school to the Amazon rainforest, and I felt very alone as a vegan for the first time ever. In the comfort of my own city (Vancouver, BC) and social media presence I have the perception that veganism is approachable and attainable. While I was away in South American, with little food options and everyone around me eating animals I had the realization that I have the opportunity to educate people. Education is power, and we were standing in the ecosystem that is getting dystroyed for mass cattle farming - and no body even knew.
For my final project, I am hosting an interactive Colombian inspired vegan dinner party to really spark the idea in people's heads about the connect to our food, our plant and the animals. I definitely want to take your approach by asking questions not attacking people with facts about veganism!

  • @jenniferthomas6273

I really appreciate how you teach us good ways to talk to others about veganism...that has been the hardest part about the whole things. People are so emotionally attached to their meat and dairy products that they become argumentative so quickly...keep up the good work!

A lot of times, when I think of activism, I think about people will bullhorns and slaughterhouse videos. That approach has some merit, but I prefer how you have personal conversations and identify with people's struggles. It shows compassion for people as well as non-human animals. Good job, Duncan.

Loved this! Keep doing more like this. (If you want) didn’t mean to order you around. Loved hearing from ‘the people’ what they actually think instead of us just preaching at them and throwing around statistics (which I can never remember anyway). I think just asking people what the think and giving them some of your experiences goes a loooonnnnggg way. Good job, Duncan! 👏👏👏👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️

I loved your question 'have you ever had an experience where you stopped eating something and your taste buds changed?' You basically moved them from the pre-contemplative to contemplative stage of behavioural change by listening to them, repeating back what they said so that they feel understood and then you hit them with that amazing question! Loved this video and the fact that you talk people beautifully about veganism :-) xx

I love your style! The videos on this channel always manage to bring a smile to my face even if im having a rough day. There are alot of street interview style videos out there but you've still managed to make this your own. This feels more organic somehow. And tbh, sometimes i detect a hint of passive aggressiveness in some of the others.
