Thank you! Will be out there for a long weekend in April to train for the JMT ..this june!!June!!! I am in NH and while I have hiked all over the place, last year we did the high sierra trail and fell in love! While it does not have towns or resupply, the 8 day carry (with bear can), summit whitney at the end was just the best! Beats densli and Banff!!
Looks like a nice warm hike something all of us from New England wish I’m watching your video next to my woodstove here in Connecticut still cold this morning Happy Hiking
A great choice for a hike. It seemed to give you a variety of terrain and a taste of the Arizona trail. Thanks for sharing, I hope you do more hiking destination trips soon.
I just finished section hiking the AzTrail last year. Only took 20 years. Since the UA-cam algorithm sent me your video I thought I'd comment. As you probably know the AzTrail will traverse deserts, forests and mountains. You'll do all of those in the same day, on occasion. The diversity is what makes the trail so unique. As an experienced hiker, I'm sure you will do fine. Here are a couple of suggestions. First, instead of using sunscreen, wear a long sleeve synthetic hiking shirt. I've found that sunscreen prevents me from sweating properly. Avoid using chemicals like bug spray. They can irritate bees and since all honey bees are considered Africanized in Arizona, it's best to not get them mad. I trust my filter 100%. But, carry some purifier like Iodine so that you can treat stagnant cowpond water after filtering. Don't rely on the occasional hiker boxes with water supplied by trail angels. They are usually well supplied. But, if you have a way to cache water ahead of time that would be a good idea. Take advantage of shade whenever you can by stopping and letting your body cool down. I assume you're going south to north since that is how it is mapped and described. The second highest point on the entire 820 miles will be just six miles after starting at the Mexican border in the Huachuca Mountains. It is 9000 feet. The highest point of the trail is in the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff. That is about 9200 feet. It can get very hot on the trail. But, it's mostly a dry heat which does make a big difference. It won't feel as hot. Some people bring an umbrella. I wear a big floppy hat, like Sunday Afternoons, that will cover my neck completely. There should be a fair amount of people on the trail doing day and sections hikes. And yes, expect horseback riders and bike riders. I've even come across a small group of "unicyclers" complete with full packs. I'm going to go ahead and subscribe and follow your progress. Have fun. But remember to pay attention, be prepared and use your wits.
Old school land navigation is fast becoming a lost art. ((sigh)) Wishing you well, NaHamsha. Have a good time out there. I say that some times when it ain't very fun, it's still pretty fun....YMMV. Skully
Good to see you out on trail again. The watch navigation aid is good but I always have a paper map and compass too. Do you like really hot weather such as these desert areas ? Getting water in the desert seems to take so much planning compared to the AT for example.
I see another thru hike in your future. The terrain is beautiful and the weather is almost always sunny. That might be a welcome change from the soggy days on the AT.
I/we haven't hiked in AZ, but have motorcycle toured many times. Not out there since Covid19, however. Loved seeing the saguaro and prickly pear cacti, the desert landscape again-thanks for that! BTW it was a pleasure to meet you at the Deerfield Fair!
Taylor. Great to see you hiking in a different environment. I hiked Camelback Mountain a couple of weeks ago. You may have already hiked it by the time you read this, but if you haven’t - it’s very crowded, especially on the weekends, and parking at the trailhead fills up very quickly. The Cholla trail is closed, so you have to hike the Echo Canyon trail to the top. But it’s worth it when you get to the top!! Happy Trails....
Hey Taylor! The AZ trail is a total bucket list trail for me. So glad you grabbed Dutch brothers! It crushes Dunks. How did the chocolate hold up in the heat? Your videos have definitely rekindled the love I have for that area, I hope you enjoyed your time in the valley. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
I was going to ask you if you still liked your Coros watch but it sounds like you really like it. If you are near Flagstaff, I hope you hit the diner there. John from MI
Don't normally comment but following a long time. i like every one though.I like it out west more just because it is so different from our east-ish terrain (Ohio). I graduated from Lancaster which you maybe through to get to hocking hills. General Sherman was born there if your into history. Oh and Tacklberry from the Police Academy movies graduated with my Aunt. haha
Many years back I went on an extended backpacking trip in New Mexico in an area that attracts hikers form across the U.S. We were making fun of the trail switchbacks saying that they had been built for the benefit of the folks from "back East". Implying that Eastern hikers weren't as tough as those from west of the Mississippi. We figured that the Appalachian Mountains were tamer than the more rugged looking Rockies. Only after about 25 years went by did I learn how Eastern trails were, generally speaking, more straight up and down, often times much more rugged than those in the Western U.S., and that switchbacks were mostly a Western thing. 😆
Looks awesome out there...Hi Taylor I met you last summer at your shop...I'm hiking the monadnock Sunapee Greenway trail the second week of May...I was wondering if you use 2 cars or are there urbers ? I'm parking at Sunapee and trying to get a ride back down to monadnock any suggestions thanks...the lone hiker
it's a beautiful trail. there is a documentary that Darwin on the trail made about the Arizona trial its called through the great southwest I would definitely recommend checking it out. looking forward to seeing your next adventures
Thanks Taylor for the great hike. How much water did you bring, would you consider bringing a water filter? I like the commentary, I will have to check out those trails next time I'm in Phoenix.
My water bladder is about 2L and my plastic bottle on the side is maybe 1L. I didn't take a water filter on this hike. 3L seems to be good for a day hike for me
That was a big change for you and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Great editing on the video. I noticed you weren’t wearing an inreach, or similar device. Does your watch, which is a cool one, have the capacity to summon help if needed? Great to see you on the trail!
I have an in-reach attached to my backpack! at around 4:30 you can see it swinging around on the back. My watch doesn't have an SOS feature. it doesn't have a cellular plan like the in-reach or an apple watch would have.
I definitely recommend a hiking partner or group if you plan to through hike the Az Trail. There’s parts of it down by the border where you don’t want to be alone.
It's great to see more hiking/adventure posts from you! I got spoiled when you were thru-hiking! Hope you had fun.
I was thinking the same thing!!

The AZT is a great thru hike! Very very different from the AT but the same beautiful feeling . I love them both
Thanks for a new trail and chatting with us. Enjoy your vacation

Awesome beautiful spectacular vlogging, hiking and scenery, all the very best.

Taylor that’s a pretty cool hike!!!😊👍🌵🌵🌵🌵

Good to see you out on trail…any trail😁
Wow, gorgeous place, the wilderness and the landscapes are breathtaking and uniquely beautiful.
It really is!

i miss nh hiking. i loved being in the woods, roots and rocks, fresh water lakes to jump into. however, the socal weather is nice almost all the time
Good morning ! I want to thru hike it one day after seeing this.

My plans changed now going to do SOBO in the fall on the AZT, hope to see you out there!

Yes, I hiked it the day after I filmed this video. Very crowded, but fun!
I'm going to Arizona next Wed. for a week. I'm not near tanned enough for this. Thanks for the reminder on sunburn alert.

Nice hike makes me want to visit again. I hope you found a Dunkin’s out there.
The Dutch bros was a fun change of pace!
Arizona looks fun 🏜️
it was awesome! im already looking forward to the next time i can visit there
Hey Taylor 👋 hope all is well, stay safe, take care 👍NH
Nice hike; take care and watch for 🐍😎😎
I just hiked it today. And the day before that, and the day before that, and the... Kinda for the same reason.

Im thru hiking azt at the moment. Really enjoying it and hope you do too 😃
You are so awesome to watch.💞💞
If you're planning on 'thru hiking' like you did the AT - just book a hotel in Sedona for a couple months...same deal.
Why did you put thru hike in quotations?
What hoodie is that? Also you should bring Cody and do the AZ trail!

I watched that one when it first came out. Maybe I'll watch it again now that i've visited
Good for you Taylor…..a new adventure!
Where did you get your blue hoodie? 🥾🏕
Burgeon outdoors
Thanks for your reply. I live in NH, went to your store last fall and got some NH swag.
I also got to hike up MT Major so thanks for the inspiration.
Beautiful trail. Crazy to see the lack of water in AZ right know
i was surprised to see the amount that I did! But i have no idea what the normal level is like
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker its beautiful out there though
Looks great.
Alltough something seems to be wrong with your phone as the sound is off.
yeah, i noticed that. Not sure how that happened. I used a new editing software for this video
Not sure if something is up with your phone, which is why I mention this but the audio wasn't synced up. Enjoy your trip.

멋진 hiking good 👍
Taylor I was wondering which thickness of injinja socks you use ?
Hi What website did you use to get that 3d image around picketpost mountain showing the trail? at 00:38 seconds
Google earth
No, sorry, I think that one was Gaia GPS
Have you thought about the Colorado trail?
It looks cool, but I haven't given it much thought
👋
Hi... what's the grid fleece hoodie that you're wearing at the beginning of the hike?
It's from burgeon outdoors
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker Thanks... looks like they make a guy's version :) I still can't get a mely
Thanks for asking, I wanted to know too as I love the look of that hoodie!
Road apple hopscotch
Nice video, but I think the audio was off!
See any wild animals?
I live in Ohio. Where did you hike there?
i hiked in zaleski and hocking hills
I definitely recommend a hiking partner or group if you plan to through hike the Az Trail. There’s parts of it down by the border where you don’t want to be alone.
I assume you've seen Darwin on the Trail's channel.
Hike pct with Kyle a flossy
