I just restarted 3 days ago, and had a checklist ready with the expectation that I was going to have to reroll quite a bit. First island I chose had everything that I wanted. I didn't care about the flowers since I can change those but everything else was perfect. The long pier, the large round peninsula (location for both didn't matter), the resident services in line with the airport centered on the map and a good distance from each other (it might be off by a couple spaces but it's close enough), yellow airport, two south rivers, secret beach in the top center, apples, and my starters are Katt and Billy who were on my list of villagers. I couldn't believe it.

I've been watching Caito's streams, and so far, I haven't seen an island like my first New Horizons island's layout (airport on the left side, the Resident Services on the right side). I'm glad I got that island when I first started playing Animal Crossing New Horizons. EDIT: I have a feeling that this video was a dig at Caito by Kora telling her that she's crazy for finding the perfect island.
I think the ability to move resident services would have solved a lot of people's island problems. But since Nintendo didn't give us that, it makes me kind of happy that the Animal Crossing community is showing it's stubbornness by re-rolling hundreds of times for islands lol
I was so surprised to find out that my brother and I actually picked the same river layout but totally independent from one another. I always wondered what the chances were^^
My only regrets when making my island years ago was thinking the river mouths & resident services could be moved lol I'm stuck with them now, unfortunately the Eastside rivermouth is gonna get on my way a bit, but I'll survive. I got about 20 villager photos and who knows how many recipes, all without Nintendo Online stuff. Don't want to lose that xD
omg that's my island template at 0:38 in the upper right hand corner!! I kept the "I" shaped waterfall in the upper right corner of the island bc I thought it was a really cool land feature when I first chose my starter template. very cool!!
I recently restarted, and probably reset 20 times or so. Even that small amount of times made me ask why Nintendo couldn’t have just added a “show me more islands” button.
the thing I noticed while looking for a specific island template, is that the airport has about 2 different set locations for each map. but resident services is always the same on the map.
The luck I had when I recently reset my island for the first time ever was. Certainly something. My only goal was to get Genji and an island layout that did not have two south river mouths. Not only did I get a really good island layout and Genji, everything else also lined up perfectly. I got oranges, which I have never had because I don't have Nintendo online. Also got a yellow airport which is automatically better than the blue one. AND Katt, who is one of the four sisterly villagers I actually like. 😭 I have no idea how all that happened
From what I observed during 3 years of playing ACNH and helping new players, I found out that for most first time players, the more they worry and complain about some island features (river mouth direction, big/small pennisula, first two villagers, campsite villager, "the heart lake", airport and resident service position... etc... etc...), the less likely they'll still be playing the game after 3 months. Some people would spend a week reading "tips" or island decoration posts to decide which island is the "best", and believe it's the perfect choice of the island that makes some islands look so perfect. Once they start to terraform and decorate and find out they can't build a perfect scene on day one, they immidiately blame it on the island features and restart, then get bored reaching 3 star so they just stop playing the game (This may sound exaggerated, but you know what I mean). Basically what I want to say is, ACNH is a slow game and a perfect island takes time and effort and creativity and maybe some talent and experiences in art. If you are a first-time player who don't even know the basics of the game yet (they don't even know that some features are changeable), those tiny detailed island features might be the least important for now and it's so, so pointless to care about it that much. Overthinking on it and perfectionism on what your island will turn out to be (for example, to be like any of those island tour videos and instagram posts) might just stop you from the beginning. (But if you're an experienced builder and you know what you're doing, good luck lol
I agree, its better to focus on the following: Location of airport, secret beach, resident service, pier, color of airport, length of pier, river layout/mouths. Somethings you can easily fix or adjust and aren't that much of a big deal. On my second island I wanted the airport to be as close to resident service/as center as possible. It's not 100% center as its just a smidge off (annoying but oh well), but it works for my goal of my island. Same with my river. I wanted my rivers going south for the mouths. Those were my two goals and I got the layout I wanted. I wasn't going to reset for hours on end because I know it would just be that frustrating. Unlike Pokemon were I'll damn reset for a shiny. XD Hopefully Caito gets her layout soon, but considering the her layout, yeah its gonna be a while.
Realistically, you should choose your ideal island based on the things you can't change, namely river mouths, resident services, peninsula, dock, airport placement and color, secret beach, and fruit. Now, most people might question why fruit matters if they're all going to be on your island eventually anyway. It's because it shows up in your passport and Nook's Cranny, taunting you, refusing to let you forget it. God I hate pears.
this just makes me think about how I wish I knew that you could reset for a different island layout... I honestly thought when I started there were only 4 options. And I thought I felt silly for googling "which item would you take to a deserted island" to see if there was a current answer. And your comment about how rare it is to find cats on villager hunts... haha! I decided I wanted an all cat island a year ago and I'm 2 villagers away from making that happen. But even if I knew the odds beforehand, I think I'd still have gone for it. I've spent so much of my life surrounding myself with cat plushies and beanie babies to make up for the fact I was never allowed to have one... and I swear as soon as I'm able to live on my own, I will get an actual cat :P
3:06 I was just looking at my town map from before I terraformed and when you pulled up THAT map I realized, you pulled up mine. Absolutely incredible. Would not have noticed if I hadn’t looked just 30 minutes ago.
I got an island that is close to the one she is looking for. The resident service is maybe a half a block from lining up. Though the way I’m doing the entrance you wouldn’t even notice. I re-rolled lots of times because I wanted a certain layout and didn’t want horrible villagers so I understand why she is.
4:37 okay but this island looks so similar to mine. the shape of the mountains and rivers, the placement of the plaza, even the heart lake next to the secret beach!
4:37 we have this exact island template lmao, it was the best of the 4 generated (furthest resident services, good river placement, etc), the randomized diff is the wide river mouth is on the the left and the peninsula is on the left side in the middle of the island, red's beach is more centered and to the left, and we dont have any rocks on the shore on the left either
Since I bought a OLED switch and transfer my island to my new one I made another island on my old switch island I reset over and over until I got my old island layout but I didn’t keep it because I wanted a new island.
It's really not so bad if you arent being picky about the villagers and native fruit (since you can change these later anyway). I got the island she has in the photo twice, on 2 different playthroughs, the only difference being the side the pier was on and the jut of land off the beach was round instead of the skinny uneven one. First time took me admittedly around 40 attemps. The second time i got it in 5. If i was going for villagers, and fruit too though id probably never find it haha.
I did this before, i wanted a penninsula i could access day 1 big enough for my house, only one south rivermouth and cherrys. It took me about 5 hours 💀 The penninsula isnt "random" it has about 3 different shapes that can sit in a few different spots.
I decided to start over in ACNH and got my ideal island layout with a heart shaped lake, and peaches as my native fruit ^-^ Now I want to get the villagers I had on my old island (Molly, Judy, Zucker, etc)
It took me probably 40 to 50 resets to get the island I wanted, I basically just wanted a blue airport that lined up perfectly with resident services, and have any other fruit native that wasn't cherries. I didn't care about the jock or sisterly, though I am currently still looking for Reneigh.
back when i first got acnh i had just watched a couple episodes of rtgame's playthrough just to see what i was getting myself into, and about a month after i started the island i went back and rewatched the first episode of the playthrough and realized i had the exact same starting layout as him, everything except the placement of the secret beach and a couple rocks, but other than that everything was identical. kinda spook
Is there such a thing as a perfect island? I need resident services in line with the airport, no annoying rocks, enough entrance space, a peninsula big enough to put a house on it, the pier on the right, river mouths in the right spots, and the secret beach on the left. Animal crossing players can be so hard to please.
I restarted SO MANY TIMES but it only took one day for me to Get an island where the airport and resident services lined up. I would have taken any River mouth but i got lucky that the first island where they matched up I got my ideal mouths. It was ROUGH though. I thought I would never get what I wanted.
I actually found caitos perfect map with hazel, dom, and a yellow airport and peaches. I didn’t take it but I guess I was extremely lucky that day lol!
I went into the game blind; and did not care what would happen neither did I care what my starter villagers look like, or anything else I just wanted to enjoy the game; and I've learned that' that's the best choice I've ever made. (In all honesty when I first started playing I didn't even know that I was going to have starter villagers! I knew absolutely nothing; thankfully my sister was able to walk me through some parts, like how you can't change your name I didn't really care about that because I already had a name that I loved!! same goes for my island name! I am the luckiest Rando in the world!!! [enthusiastically words])
Also I accidentally got Marry and sherb and Tiffany and Wolfgang and Eunice and then I looked into them a little bit more and realize a lot of people like them because they're pretty and they kind of just happened I also got cheri.. but she wanted to go off and be a star so I had to let her go! I had to! also my two starters was Axel and Hazel alternatively known as wonks and uniwow.
I also got a nice colored Airport that is a good distance away from the Center Plaza, a long Dock and a nice secret Beach (my sister was very jealous especially since I got peaches as my native fruit which is her favorite) also-also-also I end up getting at least 3 Iron Out of most of my rocks and I want to know how rare that is😅 or 4 for an average actually 5... so can anybody estimate my luck😂?
I just needed resident services to be somewhat close to my airport as well as lined up so when i enter the island i walk right into Delfino plaza and both of them to be in the center of my map, and kept an eye out for a bigger dock, beach rocks, and peninsula, i also avoided double southern pointing river mouths because i wanted as much front beach as possible but everything else was meh on my priorities. I'm making Delfino island and planned on having resident services be part of Delfino Plaza so it was necessary for it to be centered because all the other zones would be built around it. I kept an eye out for bigger beach rocks and whatnot because my very first island had tiny everything and i wanted bigger everything this time. I got what i wanted but made compromises on my dock since it's just as small as my original.
I definitely agree about not looking for the perfect island because it will take for ever...like my main thing was the location of th3 airport ans town center...I didn't want cherries as a native fruit but in the end it wasn't a deal breaker...😊 I love my island and would trade it
it took me like 3 hours to find the perfect island i love it so much. it has residents service straight ahead from the airport and then it has a heart shape lake which was so cuteee
I loved watching her looking for the lined up resident service and airport color but Caito lost me at everything else. I agree with all of your points, villagers are replaceable, native fruit effects barely anything in the game, and terraforming exists. I do love her commitment to find the island I keep watching her streams and rooting for the tiny chance she finds it
When I got my second Switch and restarted my island, I got EXACTLY the same layout as my very first pandemic-time island. River mouths, secret beach, length of rocks, etc.. I have restarted many times since then, and never gotten that same layout!
...I didn't even realize that it was rare to start with a cat villager. I have Katt and Kitty on my island, and Katt was one of my starters! Yeah never letting go of those two. I love how I just decorated around Katt's house 🤷🏼♀️
I remember when I was younger I would constantly restart my island just because of the villagers but even tho I have villagers I don’t really like I figured out how to get them to move out, Basically you ignore them for as long as you can till they ask you
Definitely not in your move in que...huh... Great vid by the way! Also I got my first amebios and got 4 cats lollie Raymond merry and purrl. My dream is Roisie and I didn't get her but my dad bought her amibio for means just waiting for it to arive. Also I used the lollie amebio and she is now on my island! Question: lollie was ur dreamed I assume and u wrote a song about her so why is she not on ur island?
I got a residents’ services far from the airport, a good river layout, peaches as my native fruit with the other two fruits given being my other favorites, my second favorite sisterly, a tolerable jock, roses which aren’t my favorite but are the best for breeding, and the airport color I wanted (well I would prefer blue _now_ , but I liked the orange airport for street lamps) all on my first try in April 2020. I was fully ready to reset but I didn’t need to. It’s a shame I like never play the game.
Not 100% on board with my Island but it's pretty even, symmetrical river, centered community center, slightly off airport Sometimes I wish rivers were in a different spot as I have very small beaches in the front, I played around the center and airport so that's fine Can't imagine ever restarting and get a worse layout 😅😅😅
fricking crazy how (5:28) that is exactly my current island, the only difference between them is the location of Resident Services. RS is more to the left
Hot take: I really don’t mind if my airport and resident service building doesn’t line up. I just restarted my island and I plan on doing a more cottagecore/forest themed one with some magical elements. In fact, I think that my airport being further from Resident Services is more ideal. It would make traversing the island from the airport feel more like an actual trek through the woods rather than a straight line.
I managed to get my perfect map. A larger peninsula, airport and resident services line up perfectly, and an orange airport. I didn’t get good starters at all but I kicked them out real quick. If I remember correctly though it took roughly 5-6 hours of resetting but it’s possible.
I got the exact island I was looking for last night in like 3 or 4 tries. Everything was what I wanted except for starter villagers which I didn’t care about lmao
I mean, sure, finding the perfect map is hard. I've been resetting (efficiently too) for about 10 hours. I have a lot of things I take into consideration to layout, but the one thing really setting me back is finding a short pier with a map I like. Also once checking a map out I'm looking for a blue or yellow airport, apples or peaches - all in combination. 😅
Now going back to the game after like 2 years I’m just now realizing how blessed my island is. I got a good airport color and it lines up to the town hall. My river mouths are both on the south side out of the way and my dock is perfectly sat on the bottom left corner. Only thing I didn’t get lucky with is getting pears and having moose as my first male villager🤢
I spent 5 days trying to get the perfect island for me. In that time i picked an island for a day than deleted it. I than picked another island for a day and deleted it. I wasn’t happy. I than for the next three days spent 10-12 hours looking for my perfect island. I took breaks in between meals etc. I continued to reset every island that came up. I have special symbols and characters in my name and island name. Frustrating to do every time but i did it. Hundreds of times for 3 days straight. After the third day of 10 hours resetting islands. A lot of the same maps but with different river mouths etc. And villagers i did not like. I found my perfect island with resident services in the middle, a BLUE ❤ airport, and 2 okay villagers. Orange fruit trees which i can live with and river mouths i liked south and east. I have since changed my first two villagers using amiibos. I was determined and never gave up. I fought the frustration for 5 days and kapow my perfect island ❤️💕✨ So, there is hope.
Idk if I was really lucky or something but I was trying to find an island where the airport and resident services lined up perfectly and it only took like 1 or 2 hours with like 30 to 40 tries
I found my perfect island :) but tbh, my criteria were not too many. f.e. I didn't care at all about my starting villagers. in the end, it took me half a day - I made a long break because i was frustrated 🤣 but for me, it was absolutly worth it :)
I feel a little odd watching some of these videos that mention how coveted Raymond is when I have him on my island. Wasn't even searching for him. I was searching for Lobo(luckilly for me, Lobo showed up in my campsite a few weeks later). I have both my dreamies in my town, Goldie and Lobo, who remind me of my parents. Don't give up.
i think i rerolled about 50 times until i got the layout i wanted, the fruit i wanted, the flower i wanted, the airport colour i wanted, and decent starters!
i managed to reset till i had peaches, a blue airport and a centered resident services in a straight line from it and then found out the secondary fruit was oranges and at that point i had to give up and kept playing
The fact that I have had three Nintendo’s, and I’ve had the same island on all three of them for animal crossing is just amazing cause I don’t like change
I got pretty lucky with both of my islands. I picked out my first, forever island because it had a smaller dick island on the inside; I lucked out and got reneigh and bam as starters and I’ve had great villagers since. On my second island, I decided that I was going to be pickier and I would reset if I didn’t get cherries as the starter fruit and roses as the native flower, but lucked out after making my first selection (a layout with a little leaf in the center).

It took me about 5 hours 💀
The penninsula isnt "random" it has about 3 different shapes that can sit in a few different spots.
I've been 2 days looking for the perfect Island, and when I like the island, I get the worst villagers possible. I think I'm going insane.
@@JustCalebbx Honestly? Use an amibo emulator. That way you can "swiftly" obtain your preferred villagers
@@plexyglass429 I gave up, at least the island I chose was quite cool and got Kid Cat, the bad part is that I'll have to share island with Diva.
yeah! this is the craziest quest I have seen. I had no idea just how rare the "perfect map" would be!
Me and my sibling got very similar islands when we first started. Only our rivers and cliffs were slightly different.
I decided to start over in ACNH and got my ideal island layout with a heart shaped lake, and peaches as my native fruit ^-^
Now I want to get the villagers I had on my old island (Molly, Judy, Zucker, etc)
Whichever island you want is the "perfect" island. Otherwise, no there isn't a perfect island (:
I restarted SO MANY TIMES but it only took one day for me to
Get an island where the airport and resident services lined up.
PROOF that it’s possible!
I went into the game blind; and did not care what would happen neither did I care what my starter villagers look like,
or anything else I just wanted to enjoy the game; and I've learned that' that's the best choice I've ever made.
(In all honesty when I first started playing I didn't even know that I was going to have starter villagers!
I knew absolutely nothing; thankfully my sister was able to walk me through some parts,
like how you can't change your name I didn't really care about that because I already had a name that I loved!! same goes for my island name!
I also got a nice colored Airport that is a good distance away from the Center Plaza,
a long Dock and a nice secret Beach
(my sister was very jealous especially since I got peaches as my native fruit which is her favorite)
also-also-also
I end up getting at least 3 Iron Out of most of my rocks and I want to know how rare that is😅
or 4 for an average actually 5... so can anybody estimate my luck😂?
I just wish I’ve put more effort to get Oranges as my native.
However, I’m thankful I have Fuchsia since day 1 and I will never make her leave.
LMAO!! the example island layout you used in the video is the same river layout as my first Island (now my sister's) it's a very good layout!!!
I’m still going to go with a new AC game will come out before Caito finds that island 😅
I wanted a certain river layout with a particular peninsula. That was enough for me, and it was pretty easy to get.
omg koramora i love your animal crossing content i watch it all day everyday while playing animal crossing
I loved watching her looking for the lined up resident service and airport color but Caito lost me at everything else. I agree with all of your points, villagers are replaceable, native fruit effects barely anything in the game, and terraforming exists. I do love her commitment to find the island I keep watching her streams and rooting for the tiny chance she finds it
if Kora is saying it's a bonkers idea and is too much effort... you know it's an insane amount of time to try and get your exact map choice
When I got my second Switch and restarted my island, I got EXACTLY the same layout as my very first pandemic-time island. River mouths, secret beach, length of rocks, etc.. I have restarted many times since then, and never gotten that same layout!
"...that I call better Florida..." This killed me
Hi Kora! I can’t wait to watch your tears of the kingdom vids soon!
...I didn't even realize that it was rare to start with a cat villager.
Also
I got my first amebios and got 4 cats lollie Raymond merry and purrl. My dream is Roisie and I didn't get her but my dad bought her amibio for means just waiting for it to arive. Also I used the lollie amebio and she is now on my island!
Question: lollie was ur dreamed I assume and u wrote a song about her so why is she not on ur island?
Caito is a trooper for sure
I got a residents’ services far from the airport, a good river layout, peaches as my native fruit with the other two fruits given being my other favorites, my second favorite sisterly, a tolerable jock, roses which aren’t my favorite but are the best for breeding, and the airport color I wanted (well I would prefer blue _now_ , but I liked the orange airport for street lamps) all on my first try in April 2020. I was fully ready to reset but I didn’t need to. It’s a shame I like never play the game.
Things like this are reasons why I’m so jealous of people with modded islands.
reset my 2nd island for about 4 days to find my perfect layout, wasnt constant but was successful
Not 100% on board with my Island but it's pretty even, symmetrical river, centered community center, slightly off airport
Sometimes I wish rivers were in a different spot as I have very small beaches in the front, I played around the center and airport so that's fine
Can't imagine ever restarting and get a worse layout 😅😅😅
Kora: “HELL no.”
Me: (Almost chokes on my drink)
fricking crazy how (5:28) that is exactly my current island, the only difference between them is the location of Resident Services. RS is more to the left
Good video,! You should link the Reddit post in the description since you talked about it so much. Thanks for the video.
Kora, you’re gonna hate me for this, on my 13th nook mile ticket i got Merry
I got the exact island I was looking for last night in like 3 or 4 tries. Everything was what I wanted except for starter villagers which I didn’t care about lmao
If wanting a specific starter flower type as well, that’s tied to villager DOB, apparently.
A heart shaped pond huh? I got that on my first island no resets. Well, that's luck for you
I’ve always like my island because it has a little mini island inside it
OMG SAME I LIKE IT CUZ ITS SMALL SO I PUT MY HOUSE ON IT LIKE A PRIVATE LITTLE ISLAND
Today I got the perfect island 1st try with the airport colour I wanted and the fruits I wanted omg
Yeah the reddit post needs an update. I did reset my island 2 weeks ago and NONE of the templates I seen is the one I selected.
“Better Florida” as a floridian I can confirm, it is a better pinensula
(caito don't read this) .... i loveeee caito getting dragged with math!!
Love that this video is centered around caito 😂
That’s my favorite part 😉
0_0 she's gonna be island hunting for years
What did Molly do to you for you to ignore her like that? 8:55
I wish I knew about the multiple options when I first started. I picked from an early set (1st or 2nd). Just wanted to play.
kora is our new math teacher now
...My resident services was lined up first try.
I thought the chances of it were absurlsy high but apparently me and my friends just got lucky?
im mstill on my first island and i didnt know that there were other layouts- so it counts :)
The fact that I have had three Nintendo’s, and I’ve had the same island on all three of them for animal crossing is just amazing cause I don’t like change
While the math in the video isn’t 100%, it does illustrate well how controlling every possible option just isn’t possible
I rerolled 13 times to get the river and Resident Services set up I wanted and anything else would have killed me
My airport is a blue building. I just started the game five days ago so I’m still new to the game
I think the odds of getting an octopus is actually 1/35, or about 2.86% chance. Since the mechanic chooses a species randomly
sorry i meant specific octopus. words are hard
0:44 pause. She is looking for the exact layout of my island I have that heart shaped pond! 😅
the way that my exact island in the thumbnail
How am I only just learning that there's more then 4 layouts now that I'm half way through finishing my island 😭
I am not going to lie, I actually thought that there were only 4 layouts... The more you know
