    Lyrics:
    Real (or imaginary) ice-spitting fire
    (That comfortable sound)
Hands in the air both feet stood on the ground
    Lassie's on my TV
I get flat on all fours and start kissing the screen
And I sit like a good dog in the hope that she might
    GIVE IN TO ME
What's the matter? Neither good nor bad weather
Makes me all ill-like (Suffer with pain)
But I don't mind, he is me. "Look Lassie! Watch him until
    He dies of his brain"
All or nothing (Before he dies of his brain)
Breathe in my skin ooh! It feeling too hard
Start collect the hoofs from my insect graveyard
    NO LONGER IMAGINARY
I want it, I need it so BAD that I cry
Let's make between WE you more
Fantastic that we ever feared of
HERO COLLIE! Insect hoofs on Lassie instead of his feet
    HE Lassie, not SHE!
Because of ME all SHE is blessed with the
Mane of a HORSE and WINGS of a BEE
(And carrying a cluster of bee eggies in the centre of she)

    PRESS IN COLOURED GLASS
    FOR MORE BEAUTIFUL EYES!
Daddy-long-leg lashes how you flirt, get out of here!
Our hero dog, insect hoofs on Lassie
Worthy of SPACE DOG worthy of ME
After my Lassie customising y'be holding up all your
Tiny insect hoofs AND WORSHIPPING ME
    What's the matter?
Insect hoofs on Lassie instead of his feet

Cardiacs are very special, truly a unique band utterly insane but utterly beautiful and mesmerising. Been in awe of them for over 30 years when me and my friends used to watch the live film all that glitters is a mares nest almost every weekend after the pub in drunken rapture that a band could be that good

Ahh, lovely, such an open-minded reaction. Nice to hear you singing along, as Tim said: 'It's all just tunes'! I would recommend aomething from their classic line-up next which ran from the mid-80s to c. 1990. What you heard was a four piece band, back in the '80s they had a keyboard player, saxophonist and percussionist too. I would reccomend 'Big Ship', 'The Everso Closely Guarded Line' and maybe 'Buds and Spawn' from this era, but its pretty much all gold.

"It's all just tunes." I couldn't agree more. I might put that on my new logo I'm trying to design. I'll give what you suggest a try. I've been meaning to do more Cardiacs. It's nice to get a little outside help deciding what to play.

@@JohnCregoWorldMusic thanks! I'm sure the more you listen, the more you will appreciate. Tim was a big fan of Gentle Giant, loved Queen's vocal harmonies and Steven Wilson is a huge fan of Cardiacs, having covered the great 'Stoneage Dinosaurs' by Cardiacs for a compilation of covers to raise funds for Tim (RIP) after he suffered a heart attack and the neurological condition dystonia. That's another track to sample, a very moving one about childhood and loss.

Really different and original band. To get the full flavour of Cardiacs, watch the video versions of R.E.S. and Tarred and Feathered.

    • @Quinceps
      @Quinceps Рік тому +1

That’s hardly their full flavour (consider Nurses Whispering Verses or Dirty Boy), but I’d agree they’re a typical entry, especially for 90’s people or younger, while also too many vitamins for others.

Hi, great reaction. I appreciate the fact that you didnt stop the music to made comments, I hate when that happends. Hope you continue reacting to more of their music.

Don't think you'd be much helped by having access to the lyrics. 😃I have a feeling (main composer) Tim Smith wrote the music first and then just squeezed some lyrics onto it, which resulted in quite some odd stress on words at times. But glad to see you enjoyed it. This was kind of diving in at the deep end. (They were often referred to as "prog punk", though Tim tended to claim they were a psychedelic band.) I warmly suggest you to check out previous band member William D Drake (who had left the band by the time this was recorded) for a somewhat more ... pastoral version of what Cardiacs were doing.

Lyrics have never been that important to me as a rule. But when something is as wacky sounding as this it just makes me want to know what the heck they could be talking about. I'll check out William D. Drake. Thanks for watching.

I think the pictures on the cover have been edited to have bigger eyes, to make them look at least in some ways, like four little boys.
One that you might like from this album that has a nice fan video is *Fairy Mary Mag* (with mysterious lyrics, as usual).
Here's a link to that fan video. ua-cam.com/video/kanAr4xIlpA/v-deo.html
(And then if you find that you like at least most of it, one of the next things you might enjoy is the a capella cover of the entire double album - of which there are at least some isolated tracks available, too - by a guy called David Minnick, calling himself the group, the 180-G's. It's a labour of love, and beautifully done.)
It might get a bit overwhelming (because there's just so much coming at you without pause), but although it's not a theme album, there's quite a lot of coherence between the various tracks of the entire album. It's full of repeated motifs, for instance. (The crazy synthesizer "solo" in Fairy Mary Mag being one of those.) Some of it is quite harsh, but much of it is just easily appreciated as fun and beautiful. (If it's enough fun, that's a beauty all of its own, I think? So your laughing is exactly the right reaction here, for instance. It's meant not to be taken too seriously, and you've done just that. Great comments on approximately this very point in your summary.)
Oh, and there are different but related projects to Cardiacs, that Tim Smith, the "leader of the starry skies" was involved in. For starters, there's the band *The Sea Nymphs* AKA Mr and Mrs Smith and Mr Drake (on account of it being a group made up of Mr and Mrs Smith, and Mr Drake), which is perhaps a bit more experimental, and "unplugged". And then there's *Spratleys Rats* (official name, now, because although they just thought "Spratley's Japs" sounded like one of those sweets you could buy out of jars at the old shops, someone pointed out it might be offensive to someone wanting take offense at it.)
There's some depth beneath the stuff skittering about on the water's surface. Or maybe I should say this is a very deep well, with good water in it.

Thanks for all the info. I try to not take too much seriously. I'll laugh at something if it's silly, then at something if it's just so good I can't believe it. If you know what I mean. It's never meant as ridicule. As far as what they look like, I figured it was photo magic or make up. Thanks again for all the links and wot not. It'll keep me busy for a while.

@@JohnCregoWorldMusic :D I didn't mistake it for ridicule. It's a very natural reaction to a song like this. (Not laughing is almost a lack of appreciation - but maybe that's pushing this a bit too far).
My guess as to what they did with the photo was to cut out the eyes, magnify them a bit, and stick them back on. Very mischievous. Not just four little boys, but four _naughty_ little boys.

I'd like to say, I also appreciate the fact that you don't pause the music. Also, I thought I would share something I found on YT since suddenly becoming fairly obsessed with this band a couple of years ago. I think you'll enjoy the approach to audience participation in this clip, occurring immediately after they finish "Insect Hoofs On Lassie" : ua-cam.com/video/fE3cehO6RrE/v-deo.html
(full concert with better audio below - also you get the context of the audience member poor Timmy had to put up with all through the gig, constantly making some weird animal noise)

I don't like to pause. It breaks up the flow. I grew up listening to music and there was no pausing because you couldn't. We talked during it so I do now. I get complaints that I don't pause if I have something to say but anything I have to say isn't so important that I need to pause.
Anyway, glad you liked the video. I like the Cardiacs but I don't think I would like a steady diet of them. I'll take them in small doses and that will be fine for me. Thanks for all the links. I'll check all that stuff out.

@@JohnCregoWorldMusic Oh right, interesting. I am from UK. I typed in Cardiacs to see what the most popular videos of theirs were at this time, as it changes often. Your video was 3rd from the top for some reason. You were lucky to be so high up at that moment. Cardiacs fanbase is quite hardcore and will probably get them all stopping by at some point. Yh, they a really unique and special band, but they not my favourite, which all Cardiacs fans biasedly think they are. Can were the greatest band of all time. Don't know if you know them, but their early albums will blow your mind. If I was to want to see a reaction from you though, then it would probably be the music of The Residents. They are the weirdest band of all time and are amazing. Maybe you are familiar with them already as you're American. React to any song from their Meet The Residents album if you've not heard them though. That would be an interesting reaction. I will subscribe to you anyway, as you say you want more ppl from UK. I liked Cardiacs well enough but can't say they blew me away to the point that I would obsess on them like I did with Porcupine Tree when I discovered them. I couldn't get enough. @@JohnCregoWorldMusic Oh wow. Yh, would'nt know which Residents song you should react to. Rest Aria from that album is actually relatively normal sounding, and is a definite masterpiece. Rest of the album is very different to it. You def got to have a certain ear for it. Most think it's bad music, but it is really some of the most intricate clever music that's been made if keeping at it. Eskimo album is amazing. Listen to that one when bored of listening to music. Tago Mago is probably Can's best album. My favourite band is Maybe This Heat, who you won't know either. That is crazy advanced music.
