The camshaft locking tool doesn't fit at the front, just behind the VANOS gears, it has to be at the back? When you were setting TDC, you didn't use the crankshaft locking pin? Thanks.
Very helpful and nice video, thank you! I also have N43 engine in my BMW 320i - and I'm going to change the Timing Chain and railguides in the near future. What is your opinion on locking the balanceshafts on the oilpump, when changing the timing chain and guides? How necessary is this? The engine is running very well and smooth, and pulls great, with the no weird and rattling noises.
Hi, thanks for watching! My opinion is that if you have a leaky oil pan gasket, go ahead and drop the oil pan and inspect everything, do the chain replacement with locking the blancing shaft. However, if you don't have a leak or the oil pan gasket was replaced recently, and you know exactly what you are doing, then it can be done without locking the balancing shafts. I am just working on a video where I show and test out the chain change procedure on a N42 without locking the balancers. Stay tunned for that:)
Many thanks for your response - it’s very helpful, and I’ll of cause stay tuned for your upcoming video, with the N42 engine. I’ve worked on cars as a hobby for many years now, so I guess I know a thing or two, but it’s my first BMW, and just starting getting it to know. So my approach would be: if the chain rainguide ain’t broken, and oil pan gasket isn’t leaking, I will leave oil pan on and don’t lock the balancing shafts. However I’ll be extremely carefull not to rotate the center hub when removing it, because as I understand it, have a risk of rotating the balanceshafts seperatly from crankshaft. I’ll of cause lock the camshafts and crankshaft in flywheel with the pin in the process. Do you agree on this approach? :) thank you for your time.
Camshaft should be released ouside in and installed inside out. I don't think it matters but it's logical since you will reduce the eventual lever the valve springs exert on the camshaft when releasing it. It it said that this can "bend" the camshaft but I doubt it.
If you weren't aware, the audio in your recent videos is a bit broken, it only comes out of the left speaker. Is this something you could easily fix, maybe an issue in an export preset? Fine on the phone but when watching with headphones it's a bit weird :)

@bjarkeskilde5812 yes, it can be done this way.

My bmw E90Igor problem not spark
Can I ask, how can you remove the head so easily, mine is really stubborn and barely lifting at all on the left side. Thanks
I used a bit of "persuasion" with the help of crowbar. I gently pried the head of untill it released.
@BimmerZen Thanks for your reply! Where abouts did you manage to get the crowbar inbetween haha
How many litres of oil this engine needs including the oil filter

AWESOME
Super💯💪
For replacement of the valve cover with new one, it required to use a sealant?
BMW manual does not specifiy use of any additional sealant. The N43 has a more "forgiving" valve cover design than the N42/N46, so less sharp corners.

Thanks, I will check
There was an issue with the sound, I will re-upload the video. Thanks for letting me know!
