    Reminds me of the space shuttle somehow! Absolute masterpiece as usual, outstanding care and attention to detail. Work of art. And I’ll second the mention of the workshop tool builds, if anyone hasn’t seen em, the crazy mini-lathe build and the mega hydraulic press modifications are awesome video series’s, definitely well worth a watch.

    Oh, if you want a truck project, a really common engine swap into the smaller old Toyota trucks is the early model of 1UZ-FE pulled from the SC400 (Soarer) or LS400 (Celsior) or GS400 (Aristo) made by Toyota and badged as Lexus in much of the world. It's a super light all-aluminum V8 displacing 4.0L and producing a naturally aspirated 290HP at the crank for the later VVTi model. The earlier model (91-94) only puts out around 250HP, but has stronger connecting rods and valves, so is considered preferable to build on due to it's ability to accept higher boost. Turbos, screw-type superchargers, and centripetal superchargers are available for it and people have squeezed 800HP out of them. It's pretty common a swap because it maintains brand coherency, but also because it's quite a short motor length-wise and can be nestled far enough back in the engine bay that you can practically make a front-mounted mid-engine vehicle out of it by having the entire block behind the centerline of the front wheels. Just expect to need to make your own headers regardless of whether or not you use a turbo or two, because you'll probably need to get creative with a tight-tucked header set regardless of your boost methods. As far as I'm aware, there are very few AWD systems from Toyota that utilize the 1UZ block, though there are plenty that utilize the iron-block 2UZ variant, though I haven't found anything regarding the bell housing matchup between the two, so you'd have to do some research if you wanted an AWD truck with the 1UZ.

    Awesome Awesome Awesome, I hope he takes us on the journey of tuning and driving. As a 300zx TT guy for years, personally I would use stock engine mounts. They can handle a fair chunk of power. I put the BDE's engine mounts on my Z and it was way to harsh for street driving, so changed them back. But this Z - I assume is for hobby racing. I have GT2554's turbs on my slicktop with a reduced exhaust housings to .49AR on e85 The power is a controllable explosive ride for the street- Not choked power, is just a lot lower down. Works for me!

    you can section and tape together cardboard tubes of the approximate desired diameter to mock up exhaust runs, which is what Bad Obsession Motorsports did for Project Binky when they finally got around to addressing how they were ever going to get a 3" exhaust under a 2.0L turbocharged Toyota Celica GT-4 swapped Mini when it barely had room enough for the drinking straw it called an exhaust pipe in the first place.
    I thoroughly appreciate your use of high-flow catalytic converters to keep the car emissions compliant. It'll probably hurt your maximum power output slightly, but it'll keep it meeting regulations and it makes the polar bears happy, or something.

    what did you use to make the divider debating on making bellmouth or splits with open waste gate dump

    • @TheAussieShed
      @TheAussieShed  Рік тому

      G'day Mate, the divider is cut from a piece of the Stainless Pipe. Cheers.

  • @jeririch1143
    @jeririch1143 2 роки тому

    I hear that splitter on the flange can cause boost creep? Do you have experience with & without?

    • @TheAussieShed
      @TheAussieShed  2 роки тому

      G'day Jeri, on a poorly designed dump pipe it sometimes does.
      For example, if there was a divider in the dump pipes that I removed from the vehicle, it may have had that effect. In that particular situation the issue is not the divider, but the really crappy design of the pipework & the under sized wastegate outlet. Proper divided internal wastegates are definitely the best option, but they have to be done right. A lot of turbo pipe work is made by folks who have no understanding of how it all works, particularly, but not limited to, stuff out of China.
      Great question, Cheers Mate.

      @@TheAussieShed It's all about flow. I experienced boost creep with dividers on very nicely made pipes after doing full breather mods. If the engine builds boost fast, revs fast, and outflows the capacity of the waste gate pipe, creep can / will occur. I'd also say the waste gate on the turbo also plays a part. Anyhow, in my case removing the divider helped as it allowed more flow out of the waste gate

      @@TheAussieShed Any comment on external wastegates vented back into the exhaust gasses instead of to atmosphere in the engine bay? I'd think it would somewhat simplify matters, but I'm not sure if it is detrimental to performance or not compared to integrated wastegates.

      @@TheAussieShed I definitely will be, I just happen to like the 300ZX more than the 350Z and 370Z from an aesthetic, engineering, and JDM weirdness standpoint. It's hard to find cars with more 90's JDM weirdness than the 300ZX (Z32).
