You mentioned JWT, Mazworx, and Brett Dempsey Engineering (first to develop bed plate); kudos to you. People forget about Jim Wolf Technology and their long history with Nissans (starting with the VG and the SR).
I See a LOT of information out there on the 2JZ, but I just had to get this information out there as a comparison, since these motors are SO HEAVILY slept on in comparison to other engines from that era.
love the outlook you have on the vg and your commentary about the condition of most project cars. gives me more drive to finish my build, Keep up the great content!
Props to this dude as he put a lot of thought into this. Very informative and straight to the point. Now , can I send you my Z32 and $5000 to do everything you just said ?? :) Great job dude.
I have a 88 Pathfinder 170k miles with the grandpa VG30i. It was not cared for before I got it. I bought it in an emergency I work in the forest on top of a mountain and my 97 suburban broke its np249 with a week to get another. When I got it back together I sold it and kept the pathfinder. It just works hard.
I have a 97 pathfinder with the VG33, and my brother has a 95 with the VG30E, and both of them are work horses for sure. both have never in the time of ownership let us down, compared to an 08 armada and 05 superduty we own. Not the most power in the world, but they are super strong engines
Excellent content Billy, definitely information that is rarely discussed/mentioned on most social media outlets. Looking forward to more updates on the project.
Great video Billy. I am an Aussie doing a VG build right now and bits are hard to get. I have been fortunate enough to get hold of a Polar Engineering top feed fuel rail. No need for mains caps on mine but another US developer who's known well here in Australia is Engineered Performance Racing from Texas. As far as after market stuff goes you guys over there are so lucky.
Thank you! That's what I keep hearing over there, I would imagine because most people lean to the GTR and rb's since they're more common down there. I use to like engineered performance as well at first but I personally tend to trust these other companies a little more.
@@Billy_Built It took me three months to get mine booked into a workshop who were wiling to take it on. Most workshops here are frightened of the VGDE. I ended up buying a fully built forged engine. ConceptZ are on my speed dial. Waiting for the GTX2867's to arrive from them now.
@@DavidGreening CZP is good people! It's pretty much the same thing here. You have to know somebody who specializes them. I learned to do all of my own work, so fortunately I don't have to worry about that.. I just have to worry about doing the work all by myself 😅

My nightmare 96 N/A just got smoked by a SS camaro. Im really thinkin of swapping out the snail. But i love the sound of it doe, with the headers installed.
800 would pretty much be the same results as 650. Guys are making 800+ through a completely stock motor. Although not necessarily recommended to do so. 😅 The playing field may level out once you get closer to 1,000whp+ in my opinion.
Dude i cannot agree more. Now if you have an NA 300zx i can understand why people would swap it with an LS, 2jz, or even an RB26. But its pretty stupid swapping out the VG30DETT because thats what makes it the "300ZX Twin Turbo".
Even with the NA motor. You can make just as much power with one. Very close to it anyway. Swap parts alone will put you in the hole farther than boosting a NA z32.
I have a 94 NA, recently picked up as my first Z. From what I can tell, engine is stock. There are few mods like cold air intake, upgraded radiator, Stillen catback. I love the car but damn its slow (i knew this as its not a TT). My 2022 Accord 2.0T Sport smokes it all day. How can I get some juice on of the Z without breaking the bank and going TT route? Your input will be much appreciated
@@damian_the_mando_apprentice Turbo the Na. @merlin machining makes a single kit for a good price. Or You could probably piece together the OEM twin turbo parts for less than 2k.
For an NA. I'd recommend just buying all the Twin turbo swap parts and just bolting it to the existing NA motor. The NA will run fine with turbos and they love E85.
What about oiling ? Mine one shows around 10 psi at idle. Sometimes 9, this is my first z so I don't really know if that's normal! 😅. Thanks for the info anyways
My NA VG30DE is about to give out I’m wondering if I should try to do a NA/TT Frankenstein Or rebuild the NA with upgraded internals and get it dyno Or should I just save up for a VG30DETT z32? Just trying get something reliable but fun with at least 250Hp
Well, my dad gave me this car, and well it’s got no engine… so I’ve been trying to find SOMETHING I can just put in it because I don’t have time to build one but I have limited knowledge on it. So this is nice
Die hard Nissan guys don't put a toyota engine in their Nissan. Its ridiculous to me. Like Nissan doesn't have great engines. If you want a 2J then you like Toyota and NOT nissan. @@Billy_Built Most of the 2.7ts can be had for $500, swap some ebay k04s on and flash a tune and you can make over 400whp. I guess the most expensive part because its going into another car would be the mounting and transmission choice. The few VG30dett I've seen range from $1500 to $3000
