I was glad when my parents divorced but felt devastated when my Dad got remarried. My mother didn't allow us to go to the wedding. When I saw him the next week I cried and asked him if he was still our Dad. He responded that if he thought it would upset me he would have never remarried. He said it seemed like no one cared that he was no longer with us. His words were comforting and he's been extra present to this day.

Have these uncomfortable conversations with those around you. Super happy you guys covered some tough talking points. I’m a 26 year old dad from Atlanta that has custody of my 5 year old son. I pulled him out of a very bad situation. He was left in cars. Transported without a car seat multiple times. Guns drawn in his vicinity. One instance when a gun was discharged in his direction in a car because of his mothers negligence. A father being awarded custody in the south is like winning the lottery. It’s extremely rare. Me and my sons mom are okay now. She sees him once or twice a month and pays child support. She’s flaked a few times. But she’s there. Growth is in those who seek it. Avid listener since the early SoundCloud Pete and Marisa days. First comment ever. Love.

Respectfully, u must be a woman. I wanna start by saying it’s NEVER ok to disown your child, ever. But as a father myself, i totally get why SOME men have strained relationships with their kids bc the women can be bitter & spiteful, especially if you’re not together anymore, the child can grow to be pro mom based on her filling the kid head with negative thoughts of u, further straining the relationship, luckily i don’t have that in my situation, but i know plenty of GOOD men who do.

I’m with Ish and Parks. If I raise a child for 10+ years, have a strong bond to this child, etc, there’s no way I’m letting him/her go without a fight. You can’t just come in after the years of work I’ve put in and just be like “well that’s my blood, so I’m taking them”. Now if you want to be involved in their life, and integrate yourself and your family, that’s fine. However, completely taking what is now emotionally and financially my child, yeahhh you’re not doing that. Joe and Ice sound selfish fr because they’re basically saying uprooting the kid completely is more important than making sure they have a stable life.

My parents dropped me with my grandmother when they couldn’t care for me and then my mother uprooted me after I began to settle into a loving environment. This is one of the greatest pods I have watched, period. I can relate to ISH even though I am younger (27 years old)...for the longest time, my dad wasn't present in my life although he literally lived about an hour from my mother's house. Growing up, I would only see him when I was ill as he was the guy with the medical aid - I would see him once or twice a year. I grew up with a lot of resentment towards him as I saw from the five of my siblings, I was the "castaway" and it didn't help that I had my mother in my ear expressing how much of a "dog" he was...turning point was when I had to attend child support court proceedings as I was coming of age and that's where I found out he was actually sending money to my mother that I wasn't aware of and this led me to question what other positive things that were hidden from me to make him out as a bad guy. I reached out since that day and we've been good ever since...and oh, he is a cop too😂😂

Y’all never hold 50 accountable for anything!!!
The money isn’t enough because 50 replaced money with time!!! What is money if you don’t show up to a graduation, or any basketball games, or to prom, or literally anything in that boy life pass a certain age. He doesn’t want his money, he want his TIME!! He wants his bond. It don’t matter what the mother did. How do you disown your child? Smh!

VERY few physicians make $120k per year and those that do probably live in Bumfuck West Virginia and are only a year out of their residency. The vast majority make over $200k. With that said, 50 Cent is a multimillionaire. $6700 is literally change to him. He probably spends more on bottle service per month. I pay over $1000 a month child support for one child on a salary of $150k per year. 50 Cent pays roughly 6 times what I pay in child support meanwhile he earns several magnitudes more than I do. Child support IS a two-way street involving both parents, but its more nuanced than that. You have to factor in who is the primary parent, the quality of life afforded to the child, and how much money the primary parent makes (or doesn't make) relative to the secondary parent. Based on the general ratios and calculations most states use as guidelines, I would think 50 Cent should be paying anywhere from $10k-$15k. But this kid is also 25 years old, so I'm curious how (or if) he is still receiving said support. Joe caping for rapper-dead-beat-dads is not surprising given that he himself has been a dead beat, and is currently the quintessential every other weekend dad who swears he is father of the year for doing the bare minimum. Joe and his mental gymnastics are funny. Either you are there for your kid(s) and they feel that, or you're not and they don't. Either way, it falls on the PARENT in question.

It's crazy how nobody brought that point up. How 6700 is low in comparison to the millions 50 makes. He sees his dad living this crazy lifestyle meanwhile he's nowhere near that. Possibly enough just to pay the bills if he lives in certain areas. Now I can see if in addition, 50 did more for him. Bought clothes and things like that.

Three babies under the weather over here.... this is just what I needed to end a long day. You guys look so cozy- makes me miss home. I miss the crispy fall air. Enjoy!
I know someone since they were a baby. I'd been telling the mother to tell the child they were adopted since they were 3. I said to just say it plain. "You came out of a different belly, but you're my baby." She said 10. 10 came and went. Literally, the worst case scenario happened... someone else told (just being mean after ear-hustling a grown folks' conversation). Everyone was caught off guard, and by this time, they were already going through their "terrible teen" phase. Oh boy! Things hit the fan after that, and they said they felt like their life was one big lie that everyone was in on. It was horrible. Little kids are pliable. They go with what they know because that's all they know. Finding a gentle way to say 'he is a piece of his mom she left for him to love, and not being his bio-father doesn't mean he can't be his dad' would be a kind start. You don't want a custody issue either. I'd assume there was a reason she didn't tell him herself so personally, I'd hope she had a will, and granted guardianship to her husband. If not, get custody officially first and foremost, wait to tell the bio-dad until the child is ready to find him, and connect. There are too many unknowns to take chances. That was a doozy... great pod, gentlemen! Thank you!🤗

Catching up on pods cos I've really missed a few (I know I'm hella behind) but this one is such a good discussion - especially around the topic of 50 cent & his son. I love that Ish was able to be vulnerable and share his own personal experience in growing up & the outlook that some men have/ go through. These are the types of important convos that open up the floor for communication among many & you gotta salute the JBP for it 👏🏾👏🏾❤️
