I'm fine with that as long as they actually make it increase your power. Not many people in the genre want to grind for months for something that's almost completely cosmetic.

Me, considering dipping my toe into ESO, GASPED at the 95% cash shop cosmetics and tossed that idea completely out the window. I'm not hugely interested in any PvP component of AoC, but if the classes are balanced, any one on one is either going to be a slam dunk get it over with or a real fight that would be fulfilling even in death. Any group fights have the potential to let players really show their strengths with the losing side properly going down trying rather than a rout. I'm much more interested in the holistic approach to balance and avoiding just looking at whiny people on the internet with skills issues. I have a lot of skills issues, but I still think this could be a great game to play with friends/a guild where I have strengths that account for other players weaknesses, and vice versa. That's how it's supposed to work. I'm more interested now than I was before watching this, so thank you for asking that question.
@@CoacolaPVP No it's not and that's fine. Yes there is more PvP in there than most popular MMOs these days, however most of the PvP will be consensual.
The ESO mounts for example are very annoying. They are basically re-skins of existing mounts. For example, 30 different wolf mounts that are all different colors but nothing else is different. There aren't actually 500 different mount types...they are mostly just reskins of a horse, a wolf, a cat, etc etc. This makes it even more annoying. They aren't making anything new, just re-skinning existing things. With that being said, ESO is still fun - they have a crate system with different themes for the crates that give all these cosmetic things which is what creates that 500 number.
if we are talkin 1v1, Its a rock paper scissors kinda deal. in a group fight the tanks role is hard ti do since you cant really force anyone to fight you
Great video, a few of my no-goes in here as well! My current red flag, is the skins applied to mounts.. We know there will be unique abilites for a certain type of mount. To me it ruins everything with that system if you can just cover that aspect with a different mount skin?! That being said, they are heading the right direction with their decisions! On you are missing how they plan to fight bots and track it, which i just love!
They have a profession called animal husbandry (basicly breeding/training) which deals with taming and breeding mounts and pets and crossbreeding to some extent. So u can get the mount abillities or effects and stats aswell as looks on it if u or friends/guildies with the profession puts some work into it
@@rizhler That is correct, however even when you breed the perfect, bad ass looking wild boar or so, you can just put a skin as a basic horse untop of it, and mislead the epic mount your are riding on into battle. Takes away the transparance.
Appreciate the video. Only one I still feel a bit weary about it how he worded its “extremely hard to get legendary cool looking cosmetics” but you can just buy equally cool looking cosmetics. How you worded cash shop dominating cosmetics is my biggest red flag for any game I hate so much nowadays how that’s a thing. I miss so much how every item back in the day if you saw someone with it you knew they earned it somehow. I get they need to make money but I’d rather just play a higher flat out subscription or pay it some other way
Since when are tanks the counter to Clerics? shouldn't Tanks beat squishy classes like rogues? Has AoC actually enumerated the rick/paper/scissor design in depth? (video link plz)
To me, allowing people to buy the cool looking gear only cheapens it. I’d prefer a game that forces you to earn that gear. So when you see people wearing it, it means something. You know that they had to earn it. Otherwise, it’s all just cheap trash in my eyes,
ive started on alpha 2 and running solo can be very difficult, i love it. the only thing i dont like is when an enemy is attacked by multiple people and it the kill goes to the player who hit it first, though respawning is fairly quick
Speaking of Learn to Play issues, I was not able to handle the change from controller to mouse and key board. It sounds like controller support may in the works, but way down the line. Any suggestions for controller people to help with learning that change?
@@guardianv5846 I'm sure you could use something like an elite controller to program the keys you'd use to be functional but learning mnk is a process that takes time and is worth it imo. I made my switch over by playing new world and using an azeron, but the learning curve is there regardless.
Even as an alpha with bugs and 1/100th of full content pledged for release im having more fun than i have with any mmo to date. The weekend only withdrawals are real, and to think all the progress done is just getting wiped on Dec 20th
On the first glance i thought there is a bunch of polish flags on the thumbnail. I think I've seen too many polish flags yesterday as it was independence day xD
This looks incredibly promising. I backed this during kickstarter and seeing the news is awesome. Do you think this world is closer to EQ1 than other MMOs? I want to run around fearing the world, not AoE smashing everything.
the thing with those incentivised pvp examples, it sounds good on paper. until your average joe wont get accepted into any sweaty pvp guilds to participate in wars, and the community complains about the caravan system because they hate losing their stuff. My experiences are New World and ESO though, so I'm traumatised when it comes to games promising pvp and then just letting that aspect die. Hopefully it works out but I must admit im sceptical.
So far Ive had ambivalent reactions to the game - when playing solo (I play a tank) I feel terrible, everything takes so long, I have to eat every 2 or 3 mobs, I dont feel like my class is providing what I expect from a tank - and then I played some group content whether just 2-4 people or 8-16 people group and I was enjoying it so much more - my view on the role itself changed quite a bit - I no longer feel like tank should be this unkillable beast but I feel like I should keep aggro, cc when needed and aim frontals away from the group :) the group size that I enjoyed the most was 8 people considering we have one tank, at least one healer and one bard Personally what I am not a big fan off is the xp debt as I like to limit test my character and my build and here if I experiment with the size of a pull several times I might have hour of grinding just to negate the xp debt
Yeah solo vs group is a completely different game in ashes lol. Tanks are such a necessity...we were just talking about how we should get a few more for content this weekend
@@isth3reno1else yea, honestly I am curious how many tanks per group/raid will become meta when they start settling on balancing - but thats a long road ahead before they start balancing regularly
22:00 I think it should be more auto balancing, so devs monitoring is constant, and not waiting for players feedback. Ofc players feedback may add next monitoring points for watch. And I would say it can be more than classes, you can monitored gear and profits from playing given spots, and when some become too good or too bad, balance them, but devs should have some predefine goals so they would know if nerf or buff. For example most classes in BDO in last 2 weeks get a lot of PvE buffs, but devs must have target performance, so they don't only nerf, or only buff. I like idea of nerfing popular spots, so people should stop sharing good spot, because how much they get balance is not only money/h but how many players using them. Why? Because sharing with friends and guild good spots and knowledge about them become important part of game.
My redflag for this MMO is... what happend when a new game it's out and I don't want to be responsible to my duties in the MMO... Like I have a team that we usually connect to the same hour and play together in the Guild, but I wont be able to do it because I will playing another game or something worst, like having to live and those things. Will then those players will need to find another group to just farm? How easy will be to do things that your did with a team of 5 to do it with 2 people?
The thing that plays in the strength and weaknesses are the youtubers that see certain classes become meta classes and then they promote that class and it becomes a meta class and builds usually that is another thing that tends to break a game cause when the flock of sheep see the leader sheep they follow look at throne and liberty all you see now basically is dagger/greatsword or longbow/staff with stuns and super strong aoes cause of meta building.
support char players are valuable until they are replaced by bots, which I hope not. You could refer to the support bot box situation in Lineage 2. People had two accounts, one account for support char controlled by bot to support the dps char.
WAIT.. your Fighterman?? Hilarious! Your group and mine got into it at the Goblin farming area outside Myraleth the other day! :D I think our group was in the wrong on that however, someone went rogue and attacked you and your friend wrongfully! Then each of our other guildies showed and and then killed a bunch more of your group. xD You killed me like 3 times during that haha! nicely done! I was Kodiax from Over Lord. :p
Hey man it's all good, we had a great time. You guys tried to push us out of a grind spot which is more than fair game. the only thing that was disappointing was someone accusing us of griefing you guys when you guys hit us first and we were just scrapping. I really wish more groups would instigate like that tbh. Good fights
@ It was my first pvp experience during that! I agree that you didn’t grief us.. our side attacked you first for sure! His goal was to scare ya away from the spot. Then you came in and killed our whole squad (which was hilarious, none of us looked at your level). But that sent a couple sensitive folks to cry to a few others and then it blew up into something it shouldn’t have!!! Went from 90% fun to 1000% chaos real quick! When you kept killing us every time you came back some of our guild overhead sorta blurred the line calling it griefing and then they went after ya. Once a few of us could get a word in that we started it, they sort of “oh shoot” and our group lot a lesson in defining griefing and gave us a lecture. 🤣🤣 I had a blast this weekend either way!! Hope you did too!
its just so boring to look at tho, the ui and world space look like they were all copy pasted from a 20 year old game or came off fiver. You need art and design not just pure engineering
It's also in alpha and has zero polish. There are textures, effects and entire areas that just aren't done yet. Everything you see in alpha 2 is all about performance and stability at the moment. Alpha is about implementing all the systems and features, making sure things work correctly and that the backend can support what you want it to. Beta is what fidelity and polish happens. That is the normal development cycle. It is not what the majority of titles that have been released in the last 10-15yrs have done.
10 years, watta noob. j/k but yeah, after a while you know certain game pitches means its not the game for you. One of mine is when the developer starts talking about how great the end game will be. uhmm, I'm not grinding for 200 hours to play your game.
I HATE pay for cosmetics, it wrecks the immersion imo. Seeing a level 1 with epic looking gear is lame. I would MUCH rather there be skins you can buy for your epic and hard to get gear. Think of Thunder fury from wow but with 3 to 5 skins you can buy to have your thunder fury stand out. THIS is how cash shops should work in AoC.
paying 250$ for be a tester of the game that already farming your wallet - not the best target to advocate. I remind you all: Devs should pay tester for checking their game. This is the main red mark that should force all of you far away from the "game"
You're absolutely correct. As someone who does get paid to test games. The shift in the industry of using testing phases for marketing and sales. Has been a huge issue. Betas are a good time to bring in a bunch of non-testers to stress test and see if issues arise through sheer volume of players (good luck getting most of them to report it, though). Pre-alpha and alpha is NOT when you want randoms playing your game. Not only do they not offer constructive feedback. But are prone to creating a voice that will work against the games marketing. Not only that. There's a lot of bad faith with games that offer testing access for money. Specifically in recent years. And to anyone that pays any attention to the industry as a whole. Should know that it's always a sign that the company's financials are in decline at best. Or completely falling apart at worse. All of this also tends to be used to undermine actual testers. As companies try to avoid paying testers. And rely on their own devs to play their games (often off the clock). As well as depending on all of these people paying them to test. This results in bugs, glitches, imbalances, and rough final products being launched. The ONLY good thing to come out of these practices. Is the companies grasp on the hardware they need for launch. That tends to be better understood and more easily handled for a smoother launch day. I'll take a rougher launch day for a better final product that will last for years. Thank you.
I agree with the game being decent. It has gotten objectively better with the fixes and patches, even if you solo close to a town, it is fairly challenging yet enjoyable.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with your perspective on paying for early access to a game. For many, paying for early access isn’t about being "a tester " it’s about the chance to engage with a game they’re genuinely excited about. Early access often appeals to dedicated fans who want to experience the game before the official release, offer feedback, and feel connected to the development process. This can be an enjoyable and valuable experience for players who are willing to invest in it. Additionally, intrepid studios have dedicated QA teams and paid testers, so early access participants are generally part of the community, not doing primary quality assurance. Comparing this experience to unpaid labor overlooks the significant value it provides to fans who want a unique opportunity to be part of the game’s development journey. It's really not that hard to understand but I mean we are talking with MMO gamers so I understand that this might be bit hard concept to some. Early access isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. You are not forced to play or PAY for them. But for some, it’s a perfectly reasonable choice to support a game they believe in and want to be part of from the start and aren't in their paid team. I'm trying my hardest to understand your point of view but alas I'm also an MMO gamer and the IQ checks in our demographic are not high so its REALLY HARD.
@keldor8302 I'd normally agree with you but this is a new server technology they need this stress testing to go forward. And they are looking for public feedback so they can shape the game how the community wants
6:45 BDO have too "legendary" cosmetics, hard to get Orzeca set, Nover set, but yeah, not much more XD BTW personally I think if most cosmetics cost in game even half of this (I ignoring that you can sell costume buy by money in game), most people (90%) would still buy them.
Should've just explained it as in the video... what if scissors also beats rock, and therefore rocks reroll as scissors, how're you dealing with it. That's all.
You watched the asmongold video I see. Special situation where even among large streamers only he saw this happen. Not that it couldn't be a problem if they didn't ban offenders, but that's an exception not the rule from what I've seen
@@isth3reno1else yeah but it has same vibe as other mmos with such systems had, like darkfall, where you just get killed over and over while Trying to level up. Think that’s a bad idea- optional PvP would ensure them much bigger player base.
@@Jdtv689 making moves like this to cater to a wider player base ruined the vision of games like new world. But its tough, it seems stupid to tell an mmo dev NOT to do the thing that will grow your playerbase. Since that is so important to mmos. thats why I think it will be very very interesting to see how they cater to hardcore fans despite the whining of casual players about slow levelling, forced pvp, worse solo experience etc
The problem with Cash Shop cosmetics is to pvpers like us mean nothing. It's pvers who buy them. And they will be ganked by all the level 50 players in green gear and quit before buying any.
Your red flags really reminded me of my red flags i have with others, and while i think yours are important to you, i think mine are better for in general types of things people shouldnt like. That being said im not taking away from your red flags, im just showing how important mine are, if that makes sense. (Yes im making this about me 😂😂)
You’re first red flag is talking to a person with autism 😓 that’s one of the things we do is when we are having a conversation we tend to give our own experience or something about us as the way to converse and engage with a person it’s not us making it about our selfs It kinda sucks but only really noticed i did it after being diagnosed in my 30s
Boooo, huge red flag for me you just mentioned. I AM SOLO. Unless they have an easy PUG system like WOW's then they just alienated a huge group of gamers.
I thought their balance changes were good. The introduction of new powerful weapons threw things out of balance but they were good to make minor adjustments and tweak things. ESO kept things unchanged for years, so by that bar it was quite different
I don't want to hack on this game But I will say. The graphics seem to be getting worse. When they showed the desert area years ago. It looked much brighter and better then it does now. It's like they're slowly Ubisofting down the graphics. And making it look washed out. Like a PS3 era game
@isth3reno1else I run a vampire PvP guild and I can confidently say that the logs show that fire damage is on the top of our list of damage taken. My guild runs 4 days a week and we run logs on every run “raid.” My guilds composition is just built to counter any burst damage with higher burst heals and rss management. If you’re talking PvE maybe it gave an unfair advantage for the undeath passive. But fire damage did deal the most dmg in fights. There is a big group of people in the ESO community that don’t run log encounter and don’t understand how burst heals and burst dmg works. It’s simple tbh. Out burst the heal burst and it deals dmg. Fire ballista/cold fire ballista, cold fire trebuchet were always the highest ticks. I also have photos of proof of logs.
That doesn't fix the issue New World doesn't fix sh it sorry for my language but thats true first of all they cant just look into all that small mid or large scale and decide look this weapon wins 60% more vs something else because players are way different for example 100 people me included can be very good with bow and thats why we win so much vs another 100 people that lose because they cant play it that much you cant decide base on wins or win probability thats crazy. I also think that Ashes right now have way more on their head to think about balance so many issues need to be addressed and fixed we dont even know if the game will support that 300vs300 players or more for this huge node wars or will crash like 90% of the time and we starting talking about balance. Let's think realistically.
Quinfall looks more promising and AoC looks more real scam now... And already a cash shop lol really... AoC Alpha 2 is kind of Quinfall looking game with a little more better visuals in UE5 with lots of bought assets and many things looks so simple and empty world (the UI, gameplay3, animations biome and many other things gave me that impression really when I watch this gameplay video) but AoC Alpha 2 has lots of problems too and it looks like very old school tab-target gameplay from decades ago. T&L, even New World, Archeage, Tera Online, Aion, Lineage 2 looks for far better than many aspects of AoC Alpha 2 which is in development of 8 years, +150 development team and +$80million budget already... In a way, it looks like a scam game really where thy asked $250 for Alpha 2 and around $100 for Alpha 2 entry only for the all three phases etc.
Just another pvp game that will kill over after 6 months.. they all do because pvp players get bored really fast and have short attention spans, pvpwilll run all the pve aka carebears off in less than a month. So nodes never develop and it will turn into a toxic dumpsterfire. With a hand full of mouth breathers circle jerking each other.
That's a real cool scenario. And, it sounds like you really want to be a part of that circle jerk, you mentioned. Just make sure you bring protection, and watch out for strangers...
yeah so regarding balance, it's not that easy because we have to consider player skill. some classes are really easy to play, so the question is: should they be less effective than the harder to play classes? like if you played super smash bros, wave dashing is a really hard technique to master and the players who can do it get rewarded as such. but if you look at BDO or GW2, you can be brain dead Guardian and be just as effective as a high APM class. this isn't fair to players who are bending over backwards to min max their button presses, and the problem is that high APM loving people would get bored playing low APM Guardian. so the result is that these high APM classes get nerfed really hard to keep the win rate equal to the easier classes, and now as a high APM player you are forced to either be super bored playing a low APM class, or you have to deal with playing a fun class that does very little damage if you dont play it optimally. this isn't fair for high skilled players. in good games, high skill is rewarded with greater rewards, but there is this plague going on in modern MMOs where the devs stare at their dev tools all day and nerf any class that is overperforming without asking themselves, "does the class deserve to overperform because its hard to play?" another problem is popularity of a class. a lot of difficult to play classes tend to be unpopular, and the only people who play it are those who are good at video games. so if you just look at the dev tools you'll see this class overperform, but in reality its just that this class has a higher distribution of skilled players (usually because it is complex to play or has high skill expression). personally i think a video game should be balanced around animation canceling. there should be a base power that pressing a skill gets you, and then if you animation cancel it properly, you should be able to eke out 10-20% more. and the dev tools they make should be able to read and separately balance out the skill based on whether it was animation canceled or not. this way the skill floor remains low (beginners can just press the buttons and still be effective), but the skill ceiling becomes a lot higher as a way to reward skillful players.
Damm, agreed on everything on this video, until you used New World as an example... New World was never balance, never, the meta is super stiff. The saying "the data shows" became a meme, cause the devs kept saying "the data shows", but they clearly didnt play the game. Data only goes so far.
It's tough because their balance changes in 2023 were good, when they decided to delay everything in 2024 and not pay attention to the game anymore it was bad. Maybe it was too small of a time period to apply it, but actually looking at data over just responding to community complaints was miles better than what eso did where the loudest voices got the most nerfs.
Cosmetics should be merit-based. Even if its in the cash shop, it still needs to be earned by doing something in game instead of just swiping your credit card.
idk what mmo you are playing, but the BIG one that the rest of us play, just give every class every answer to everything. so nothing is special and everything is First global wins. "nurfing to the point something is not meta" is code for they ruind my broken FOTM spec. get over yourself.... go play cata RBG and you know what i mean. for those that dont 6 /10 of the same class every game.
They don't want to give every class an answer to everything. it's literally a core design philosophy they're trying to avoid and is antithetical to their game. but i need to get over myself right?
The class thing hit home for me, i hate that in so many games now people can ether play any roll in one char or just respec with a fast click of a button. Love the days when a specific player and there character were needed for content, even if you had to wait for someone that for me just made the game more immersive.
Cash Shop: I sadly really do not agree in that. In games, you need stuff to be recognizable, to clearly and directly show how good you are, or how much time you spent in the game. Cosmetic shops are WAY WORSE at killing a game than pay to convenience. I come from a game where this type of cosmetic shop killed the game. If you really need to do a cosmetic shop (something that I really do not advise), at least PLEASE, do different skins, in this way the one acquired in the game are unique. And I say this from a person that would probably will never manage to sink too many hours in the game and may not be able to get those skins, but I really think this is important to keep the game alive
@@bamjo9 they did say they are doing that. They want in game achievements and purchased cosmetics to ve clearly separated. I do agree though. Achievement skins and then ones that look similar are my annoyance as well

I get they need to make money but I’d rather just play a higher flat out subscription or pay it some other way
muhahah did my calling you Reno catch on? ;) Good job 'Reno'! ;)
Im so excited for rogue’s to come

Since when are tanks the counter to Clerics? shouldn't Tanks beat squishy classes like rogues? Has AoC actually enumerated the rick/paper/scissor design in depth? (video link plz)
They want rock paper scissor mechanics but haven't gone into detail yet on what those counters are. Fighter vs cleric is just the hypothetical I gave
Still missing 2 classes or rather arch types , and we don't have the augment system.
Kinda all theory until we get the rest of the class kits .

Nope it's a sin to play an MMO on controller

First red flag, every time, is "feel" of the movement in the world.
I like how you put "adjusting weapons" then calling it nerfing
Diddy was uncalled for
My biggest red flag is binding a permanent self buff (untill logout) on 2, and not even having it active while grinding
the thing with those incentivised pvp examples, it sounds good on paper. until your average joe wont get accepted into any sweaty pvp guilds to participate in wars, and the community complains about the caravan system because they hate losing their stuff. My experiences are New World and ESO though, so I'm traumatised when it comes to games promising pvp and then just letting that aspect die. Hopefully it works out but I must admit im sceptical.
Nodes can go to war too, doesn't have to be a guild.
i dont play alot of mmo...but i was wondering are those ration necessary?
So far Ive had ambivalent reactions to the game - when playing solo (I play a tank) I feel terrible, everything takes so long, I have to eat every 2 or 3 mobs, I dont feel like my class is providing what I expect from a tank - and then I played some group content whether just 2-4 people or 8-16 people group and I was enjoying it so much more - my view on the role itself changed quite a bit - I no longer feel like tank should be this unkillable beast but I feel like I should keep aggro, cc when needed and aim frontals away from the group :) the group size that I enjoyed the most was 8 people considering we have one tank, at least one healer and one bard
Personally what I am not a big fan off is the xp debt as I like to limit test my character and my build and here if I experiment with the size of a pull several times I might have hour of grinding just to negate the xp debt
All i know os thst Bard surprisingly beats Tank.
Bard can strip the tank's protective buffs and causes them to go squish.
The thing that plays in the strength and weaknesses are the youtubers that see certain classes become meta classes and then they promote that class and it becomes a meta class and builds usually that is another thing that tends to break a game cause when the flock of sheep see the leader sheep they follow look at throne and liberty all you see now basically is dagger/greatsword or longbow/staff with stuns and super strong aoes cause of meta building.
i mean best on youtube isn't always best in game, but youtubers do push the meta quite often

support char players are valuable until they are replaced by bots, which I hope not. You could refer to the support bot box situation in Lineage 2. People had two accounts, one account for support char controlled by bot to support the dps char.
Outplay and mechanical skill should be the priority in PvP as opposed to rock paper scissors.
That's what I prefer, but I don't mind rock paper scissors in a group based pvp game either
WAIT.. your Fighterman??
It is not what the majority of titles that have been released in the last 10-15yrs have done.
what you expressed was not rock, paper, scissors but shotgun, spoon, spoon.
IsTheReno1Else does have a nice ring to it. Margaret accidentally answered your renaming dilemma. 😂
She might have!
?? The devs do pay their QA testers. They have 3 QA testing houses (1 internal, 2 external).
@keldor8302 I'd normally agree with you but this is a new server technology they need this stress testing to go forward. And they are looking for public feedback so they can shape the game how the community wants
i have been summoned 🫡

6:45 BDO have too "legendary" cosmetics, hard to get Orzeca set, Nover set, but yeah, not much more XD

Arguing AGS has done anything correctly since launch, especially monitoring or balancing pvp is a joke, right?
I thought their balance changes were good. The introduction of new powerful weapons threw things out of balance but they were good to make minor adjustments and tweak things.
ESO kept things unchanged for years, so by that bar it was quite different
I don't want to hack on this game
But I will say. The graphics seem to be getting worse. When they showed the desert area years ago. It looked much brighter and better then it does now. It's like they're slowly Ubisofting down the graphics. And making it look washed out. Like a PS3 era game
ESO vampire was balanced. People just were shit at making counters.
It wasn't, that's why they finally nerfed it this year and why before they did everyone ran vampire
Istherino 😂 Own that sht bro lol
Tanks for now are lacking a bit overall I expect huge improvements
The pvp flag system is pretty dogwater, other than that I'm liking the mechanics in the game.
This game never coming out - biggest red flag
Just another pvp game that will kill over after 6 months.. they all do because pvp players get bored really fast and have short attention spans, pvpwilll run all the pve aka carebears off in less than a month. So nodes never develop and it will turn into a toxic dumpsterfire. With a hand full of mouth breathers circle jerking each other.
It's a PVX game. Pve'ers and pvp'ers specifically will not find as much enjoyment as those that enjoy the world aspect of the environment
That's a real cool scenario. And, it sounds like you really want to be a part of that circle jerk, you mentioned. Just make sure you bring protection, and watch out for strangers...
Auto play quest is red flag
yeah so regarding balance, it's not that easy because we have to consider player skill. some classes are really easy to play, so the question is: should they be less effective than the harder to play classes? like if you played super smash bros, wave dashing is a really hard technique to master and the players who can do it get rewarded as such. but if you look at BDO or GW2, you can be brain dead Guardian and be just as effective as a high APM class.
this isn't fair to players who are bending over backwards to min max their button presses, and the problem is that high APM loving people would get bored playing low APM Guardian. so the result is that these high APM classes get nerfed really hard to keep the win rate equal to the easier classes, and now as a high APM player you are forced to either be super bored playing a low APM class, or you have to deal with playing a fun class that does very little damage if you dont play it optimally.
this isn't fair for high skilled players. in good games, high skill is rewarded with greater rewards, but there is this plague going on in modern MMOs where the devs stare at their dev tools all day and nerf any class that is overperforming without asking themselves, "does the class deserve to overperform because its hard to play?"
another problem is popularity of a class. a lot of difficult to play classes tend to be unpopular, and the only people who play it are those who are good at video games. so if you just look at the dev tools you'll see this class overperform, but in reality its just that this class has a higher distribution of skilled players (usually because it is complex to play or has high skill expression).
personally i think a video game should be balanced around animation canceling. there should be a base power that pressing a skill gets you, and then if you animation cancel it properly, you should be able to eke out 10-20% more. and the dev tools they make should be able to read and separately balance out the skill based on whether it was animation canceled or not. this way the skill floor remains low (beginners can just press the buttons and still be effective), but the skill ceiling becomes a lot higher as a way to reward skillful players.
Can't wait to play this in 2034
Damm, agreed on everything on this video, until you used New World as an example...
They could put blueprints and recipes in the cash shop that players could buy and create with the right materials.
Fuck no
Cosmetics should be merit-based.
Ashes of Creation looks like asset flip garbage.
The class thing hit home for me, i hate that in so many games now people can ether play any roll in one char or just respec with a fast click of a button. Love the days when a specific player and there character were needed for content, even if you had to wait for someone that for me just made the game more immersive.
Mmorpgs imo are always more fun when there is more build diversity and not less.
