  • 🌴 Dive into the lush world of indoor tropical plants! 🌿 Whether you're a seasoned plant parent or a newbie green thumb, this video has everything you need to know to keep your indoor oasis thriving. From essential care tips to easy propagation techniques, I’ll share my best advice to growing vibrant tropical plants right in your own home.
🌱 Here are a couple helpful tips to get you started:
💡 Lighting: Most tropical plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Place them near a window where they can receive filtered sunlight throughout the day. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest parts of the day, as it can scorch the leaves.
🌡️ Temperature and Humidity: Tropical plants prefer warm and humid environments. Keep your indoor space consistently warm, ideally between 65-85°F (18-29°C). To increase humidity, you can mist your plants regularly, place a humidifier nearby, or group plants together to create a microclimate.
💦 Watering: Proper watering is crucial for tropical plants. They generally prefer consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly until the excess water drains from the bottom of the pot. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or keeping it too soggy.
🪴 Soil: Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix for tropical plants. Good drainage is essential to prevent water-logging, which can lead to root rot. Consider adding perlite or orchid bark to improve aeration and drainage.
💩 Fertilizing: Feed your tropical plants regularly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce or stop fertilizing during the dormant season (fall and winter) when growth slows down.
✂️ Pruning and Maintenance: Regularly remove dead or yellowing leaves to encourage new growth and prevent the spread of disease. Prune your plants to maintain their shape and size, and remove any leggy or overgrown stems.
🪲 Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for common indoor plant pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. Inspect your plants regularly and treat any infestations promptly with natural or chemical solutions. Also, be mindful of fungal diseases, which can occur in humid environments. Avoid overwatering and ensure good air circulation around your plants to prevent fungal problems.

Hi Kevin, love your videos I’m just wondering that first plant that you repotted you put it very deep in the pot. Do you typically do that with fresh roots so there isn’t too much dirt below if that makes sense thanks.

hey! thank you so much! :-) It may have looked like it was deep in the pot, but there was probably only like 4" left on the top. I tend to put at least 2-3" of soil below. With that plant, since it was a crawler, it was important for me to not fill the soil up all the way, so it's growth point would be above the soil. If you bury their growth points, it stunts their growth. :-/

good question! :-) I just use fish fertilizer! I've had a lot of success with it, so haven't really felt a need to combine anything else :-)

Hi friend, did you know adding too much rooting hormone can actually inhibit bud growth and roots..
Seems like you add more than you need to get the same results..
    anyhow, enjoy your videos

Thank you so much! I didn't know that! But I've never had any issues with it inhibiting bud growth, but I'll definitely be more cognizant moving forward! Thank you! :-)
