- Full approx 1 hour tape of a WVTM special about the March 1993 winter storm that was released on VHS. This winter storm brought Birmingham and all of Alabama into a standstill and paralysis.
Sophia Richardson Choi now at WSB-TV Channel 2 (ABC) in Atlanta, Georgia, Heather Unruh retired at WCVB-TV Channel 5 (ABC) in Boston, Massachusetts in October 2016, Phil Rozen retired in the early 2000's, Janice Rogers now at next door WBRC FOX-6, Pam Huff down the street at Alabama's ABC 33/40, Tracey Haynes in North Georgia, Jay Prater now at KAKE-TV in Wichita, Kansas
Just to clarify, ABC 33/40 is not down the street, it's in Hoover, not on Red Mountain.
Jerry Tracey still works for NBC 13 as of May 2022.
I remember Jerry Tracey's mustache. I still don't think he should of gotten rid of it. lol But that was a crazy couple of nights. Honestly though, even with the power out for days, those were the best five days of my life. I was 10 years old and of course, I thought it was all fun and play. Even when we lost power.
I remember that storm. As a girl from Birmingham and seeing no snow, I was so happy! I was 12 and was just as excited as my 4yr old brother was. Lol. Jerry Tracey was the BEST! LOL.
Was traveling from Montgomery to Birmingham ,didn't realize what type of storm it was went from sleet to snow and almost got stuck in Birmingham but managed to get behind an 18-wheeler and make it back to Montgomery
The best part was the lightning and thunder during the storm. But Burly Earls was closed. That was a drag.
It was an incredible storm that came out of the ocean like a clockwise blizzard hurricane.
We had six foot snow drifts in Montgomery and 6 in of snow
I was 13 when the storm hit my first snow
I’m from north Alabama just shy of the Tennessee state line and I remember not having power for a week and all of us sleeping on our mattresses in the living room with a fire going 24/7. Luckily, we had canned vegetables from the summer and a deep freeze full of meat so we were able to grill.
