Other people always know better you do of course , people used to say the same crap to me . When I bought my third farm my oldest friend of 30 years found out , and never spoke to me again . I’m a lot older than you , and by god I could tell you some stories. You’re not supposed to move up a bit , and as for buying Range Rovers and going on holidays, that’s a complete no no . You will always get some people who think they know it all, it makes good sense to have new machines with warranty then have old and cost a fortune to keep going. Well done to you for making a good decision on getting the new tractors, which don't cost anymore than the older ones. 70% Today .
At the end of the day Olly. You have the knowledge of your farm business finances. Warranty is a must when keeping machinery as new as possible to reduce expenses. You have a fair team behind you to help you plus pay and keep the farm stay alive. God it's hard enough dealing with the climate to keep farming ie yourself last year during harvest with all that rain. Don't let them grind you down. There lower than you as they can't tell you DIRECTLY. Keep smiling mate😀

It makes complete sense to keep arguably the most important pieces of kit on the farm in warranty. Without the tractors you are limited in what you can do. I work in IT and we replace all laptops every 3-4 years the same with servers, switches etc before the warranty ends or sometimes get extended warranty’s. If a server or switch fails out of warranty it could take days or weeks to get replacement parts and you can imagine the impact that would have on the business

I’ve started UA-cam myself recently olly and I’ve put a few bits on tiktok and it’s amazing how so many people are quick to tell you what you’re doing wrong and judging your choices. In an industry that has recently started talking about mental health more thanks to UA-cam and social media and yourself why aren’t farmers supporting each other more and being happy to see others doing well. The attitude needs to change. It’s great to see you doing well and so much for charities and keeping mental health within agriculture in the spotlight. Keep it up 👍
It's an age-old discussion which I had with a naughbour,he changes his tractor every three years warranty covers most things apart from breakages and pay X amount per month every month for years. But we mostly buy good second tractors and new implements and run the tractors around ten years with 2 years finance at the start.

I’m a small livestock farm. I have old tractors. In time I will upgrade them as money allows . (My dad wouldn’t cope with new anyway)..
The age of a farmers fleet is down to turn over if you were managing the business badly you wouldn’t have the ability to run what you have. As you say you’re running a business newer kit makes financial sense for your business. Good on you keep doing you.

It's a fact of farming, you have to diversify to farm. Farmers should look at your way of doing things to improve their businesses so they can have new machines. Sod them and good on you. Great video as per normal.

Come here, you should take notice of those people and their comments. Some people are born just to use their heads to keep their 2 ears apart. And I guarantee you that these are the same people who are constantly looking in over the ditch at everyone else, and then they wonder why they are getting on with their own stuff.

I’m not being funny but the farming forum tends to be full of people who are either jealous or want to complain about people’s success. At The end of the day you’ve ran your business well and done the figures. The figures made sense and as the saying goes, you’re either paying the mechanic or finance company. Maybe if the people on the farming forum concentrated more on running their business rather than slagging people off they’d be able to purchase to Fendt tractors. Well done Olly.

General question Olly. When you took delivery of the 728s there was a set of tyres or wheels and tyres on the lorry that are now in the shed. What are they for😊
I can see exactly why you swapped the tractors Olly, same as previously the Range Rover: you managed to negotiate a deal that works out good for you. If that isn't good business sense I don't know what is. Also like you mentioned warranty and reliability, especially for an arable farm important factors.
If you want a new tractor or two new tractors stuff whatever folks think it’s your money your business. Personally I’m a Deere man but your fendts are pretty smart looking. Let’s hope you get some dry weather to be able to use them 👍

If you can get 2 brand new tractors, with warranty for £80 a month extra, well done you. That sounds like great business sense to me and gives you peace of mind having reliable equipment on hand 👏👏👏
I bet for the £80 difference, there are some efficency gains as well. Every machine in a business has to more than pay for itself. From Startup culture I also learned: that it counts most, what quality of life comes out of all you are doing.

The old green eyed monster I'm afraid. I nanaged golf courses for 25 years and had the same comments when we renewed our fleets on 4 year finance deals. As machines become more technical it pays to get shot before the £100 an hour repair invoices start appearing. Good luck with the harvest

It does make far better business sense to run new tractors with warranties especially with the distances they are running between ground.
If you only had 50 acres with 75 cows and some sheep then it doesn’t warrant 2 new Fendts.
Charlotte A runs a smaller farm with older equipment and they get contractors in to do a lot of the field work, which works well for them.
“Horses for courses” I feel is the best saying for this Olly.

Completely agree olly if farmer ran their businesses more like businesses and not like hobbies then there would be a lot more profitable and progressive farming in the UK. Also flipping spot on for thinking about succession years in advance of it coming.
Loved how you explained the way you decide if a deal is worth it. Finance is a minefield and the trick is as you well know to get the best deal. It's a buyers market and with the price of vintage kit at the moment someone might be able to find a cost effective trade in to get them in the market!👍
Totally understand your views on your new tractors. Unfortunately i couldn’t afford a new tractor as its really only for winter feeding and fertiliser spreading, however we have just purchased a 4 year old pickup to replace our 2007 pickup for hauling lambs to market and buying new stock, the 2007 pick up will replace our old farm pickup for around the fields. Its only people who don’t understand the logistics behind farming who create a fuss about nothing. Keep your videos coming they are great!
Makes all the sense if you’re getting it within £80/month. How much did that injector issue cost you to rectify, that tractor was becoming problematic. Cost avoidance is just as important as cost savings. I won’t keep a car out of warranty, that’s why I PCP. Works for me but may not work for others. Makes budgeting easier as well. Surprised people are moaning about the Quadtrack, but I bet that’s allowed you to seed in adverse weather conditions.
I shouldn't worry what other people think Olly,if you hadn't got the kit like you have you wouldn't have the crops to harvest this year. Keep on running your very successful business the way you are, I'm 75 % today.

The only good thing about this weather? we are all experiencing it so we can all support each other in the moan. Always somebody worse off - e.g Tom Pemberton Farm Life with ruined grass after silage! Glad we have mainly boys ground in here on our farm. But imagine how people coped when they didn't have driers!
