Italy's Best Hike?

  • Big & Small have discovered the best hike in northwestern Italy! We’re back in Liguria, this time to check out some of the region’s most breathtaking and underrated spots-a million worlds (and tourists) away from the nearby Cinque Terre. Here, we check out Genoa’s resort town of Nervi, before landing in the tiny bay of San Fruttuoso (accessible only by ferry or foot) to take an epic coastal hike through the Portofino Promontory to the enchanting Italian Riviera town of Camogli. The San Fruttuoso to Camogli hike is a challenging one, including lots of dizzying switchbacks, inclines and declines, and steep slopes that require steel chains to maneuver through. If you’re up for an adventure on your next trip to Liguria, this is where you need to go.

      Thank you! It was an anniversary to remember because the hike was longer than expected and included chains! It was a thrill a minute. Do you do a lot of hiking in Europe?

      Croatia offers a lot of natural beauty similar to Southern Italy, but the cities are overrated. Our favorite spot in Croatia was Split. Did you visit? So, there is amazing hiking in Bath, England?

    Great, visited Camogli in March, went there to catch the ferry to San fruttosa, and fell in love with Camogli, it is magical, nice to visit in the off season.

      Thanks for watching. We were so tired when we got to Camoglia, after the hike, so we just enjoyed a few sights.

    Spectacular views!! What a big hike, especially those parts with the chains!! Love the coffee and food stops you include!! We watched your Amalfi Coast video before our trip to Positano and it was very informative. We enjoyed hiking The Path of the Gods while visiting. More pics of cats please 😸

      Thank you! I'm glad to hear our Amalfi Coast video helped you. How long did it take you to finish the hike? Our biggest piece of advice, to save money, is to avoid the beach chairs and bring a towel.

      On the Path of the Gods we hiked about 7 miles, from Bomerano to Nocella. The hike took a few hours to complete, my husband was hit with motion sickness on the drive up the mountain and he had to hike while nauseous. He hung in there like a champ. I think that the best piece of advice I was given was to wear sturdy hiking shoes. The fog made the pumice stones damp. I can’t remember how long the actual hike lasted, but we took a route that went high into the mountains. Stopping in Nocelle for lemon ice slushees and cat watching was a delightful conclusion to our adventure. Thanks for the heads up on your Instagram account, there are wonderful photos on it!! ✈️🗺🏛🏔

    How do you say hike/hiking in Italy? Cool video

    • @BigSmallTravel
      @BigSmallTravel  4 роки тому

      In Italian hiking is, "escursioni a piedi." Difficult for us because our level of Italian is beginner to low intermediate. Fortunately, many tourists especially from Europe do this hike in Liguria. Are you into hiking? This trial is beautiful and full of some thrills ---- very intense.

      @@BigSmallTravel Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have done it several times, even with deep snow, Alpe Devero is a gem and it is still not known by mass tourism even by Italians, I understood that this is very important for you and that's why I suggest it. there are several paths with various levels of difficulty, whatever you choose, you will find yourself immersed in unspoilt nature and the picture-postcard landscapes of the Alps, there are also a small lake and a larger lake with a dam. You can reach Switzerland by foot because it is on the border.

      @@MrItaliansound Is this hike in the Dolomites? Italy is a jewel for nature and hiking.

    • @MrItaliansound
      @MrItaliansound 5 років тому

      @@rolfdahmer111 no, this hike is not located in the Dolomites, the Dolomites are magical but given their popularity they are a little more crowded and expensive compared to other Italian mountain resorts, however they remain cheaper compared to Swiss, French or Austrian locations. This hike is located in Valdossola, a beautiful Piedmont province 1h40 drive from Milan. You can also ski, the daily ski pass costs only € 25 !! You can forget this price throughout the rest of the Alps.

      I usually leave Milan at 8:00 and arrive at 9:40 am at Alpe Devero, I do my hike, around noon I go to the cabin/restaurant of Crampiolo " La Baita", I eat deer and wild boar and polenta pasticciata, I visit the lake of the witches (the water is emerald and crystalline) then around 5:00 pm I drive half an hour and go to see the sunset in Stresa on Lake Maggiore. Days like this relax me so much, you feel reborn.
