@@deanbilton he beat him in 2005 grandfinal and tigers where a dominant force when he was there, he changed the game. JT edge was that he was a competitor. Yes benji Marshall is most certainly in the same boat
@@UNCLEBILLYTEE He didn't "beat" JT, he was part of a winning GF team. He also left rugby league so will never be given the legendary status because of this. That was considered sacrilege by the NRL (not that I care)
@@deanbilton he did beat JT, he won the 2005 grandfinal lol. Doesn't change the impact he made on rugby league or the way the game was played. He had just as big impact as JT has had. From 2005 2011 everyone wanted to be benji Marshall, that's immortal status in my books regardless if he left league or not.
Just because you didn't read about it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Benji was the face of NRL for a long time. Players like that are protected. Not saying he's not a good bloke. Just that there would be countless incidents where NRL damage control makes sure the public never know about anything that could ruin the profitability of high profile players. Every sport has it. Every industry for that matter. That's why PR is such an important element of any entity seeking capital. It's not the truth they matters. It's what people think is true.
Got to love how honest he is about his own mistakes and issues. He'd make a great mentor for younger players. And had talent to burn, foot work for days.
Kiwis and Ozzies alike I think we can all agree Benji is class on and off the field. I hope he goes into coaching after 2020 when he wins the comp...this from a broncs and warriors supporter
Benji Marshall is a legend who needs to be in the hall of fame. He went to school at Keebra Park State High School and I attended Southport State High School.
Agreed, there was a game a few years back against souths he stepped the stupid and set up trys with his passing. Was the first time i seen a player look out the back too pass too the fullback but gave it too the supposed decoy who went through untouched.
I think he doesn’t get enough credit for how good of a player he was I’ve got him in my top 10 best players of The decade and most importantly he’s a good human being
Unfortunately in the NRL world it seems if you don't play origin, you don't always get the credit you deserve. If he had played on that same stage as Lockyer and Thurston, his name would come up more alongside those guys.
Or a kangaroo for that matter ! Perhaps that discounts some status for Benji not to mention his hiatus but by gee ...he's just true absolute joy to watch between 05 to 09 season ! And this season with the Bunnies is no slouch either .... I'm hopeful he signs off with yet another GF win ...
That entire Tigers team was gangsta to watch. Shame how his career finished really, once he left Tigers the first time he was still a young man and had some good offers from some good clubs including Melbourne, Brisbane, Cronulla, NQ who had established forwards and in a good spot... he chose Dragons who were a basket case at the time. He'd still be one of the best halves in the comp if he had a permanent crank.

Benji Marshall can be summed up in one word.... CLASS!
My generation grew up idolizing Benji.. Some players come and go but Benji was and will always be special.
Benji changed the game, the guy deserves to be in the same sentence as JT and cronk
@rtd exactly, he changed the game. Anyone who impacts a whole generation like that deserves to be in the same class as Smith, cronk and JT.
He's good but not sure about putting in JT league.

Love ya Benji, class act on and off the field.
@J G
Just because something is popular it doesn't mean it's great.
Lots of popular pop stars around and they're not that great.
How can anyone hate this man… pure class
And a good bloke, father and fella, all the best mate, to you and your family.
08 World Cup Final is my favorite memory....
Your resilience from shoulder injuries and seeing you so strong in the modern day is fucking awesome btw
Love your work Benji, and that's from a Queenslander, respect mate, done well bloke
He will allways be the New Zealand GOAT !!!
NRL Immortal.

He kicked a cat once in the Concord oval carparks.
He had a drunken fight at McDonalds on a night out.
There was talk of "pressing charges" against him by the media. Not much came of it.
Got to love how honest he is about his own mistakes and issues. He'd make a great mentor for younger players. And had talent to burn, foot work for days.
This guy is still carving up in 2021. Keep going bro till you can't do it no more Benji. A true champ👏💯🙌 "Here comes the hot stepper!"🎵🎼🎶
Benji you are a champion, a real good ambassador of the game. Love ya!
We all at one point tried to do the ‘Benji Step’ or ‘Benji Flick Pass’.... The bloke *deserves* to be an immortal.

2 years later. He retires. Legend of the game. Thanks for the memories Benji the Marshall
Proud of u bro
one of my favourite players...period

he had the best passing in the game at one point.

sharks fan here, but cant help but love Benji.
Great interview
they should build a statue over in NZ for this guy, hes a once generation player
Never forget watching him play for the dolphins in the Q cup. Legend bro 🙌

fr i've always found that to be a little ridiculous. there's players on both states who are nowhere near as good as Benji. such a shame
He deserves a statue #kingstepper 💯❤👊🏽
Tigers another season not in the 8 , what a diaster. Benji will always be an icon of the game still
Eric Vlahos they aren’t out yet. They have 3 winnable games and if they go 3-0 they make the 8
They will only win 1 of those 3 games , tigers 9 season straight not in the 8 is a complete fail
@@ezza1236 let me guess you go for the roosters?

I’ll say it again, you’re a good fella Benji,

love the shows boys, shot benji
Benji 2020 please 🙏
Just shows Wayne instilled a lot in every player.
