Hi Marisa, Can you please share what size dutch oven this is? I'd also love to know what size stainless stockpot you use. Thank you so much for the Gaps to Go program and all of your videos!
Hi, Thank you so much for the instructional video, I have a quick question. I am new to cooking meat and I am unsure if I need to wash off my meat in my sink before I can put it in my soup pot. Dr. Natasha says in Gut and Physiology Syndrome to wash your meat in order to remove any oxidized substances on the surface when meat is stored for a while in plastic. If my meat is from a local farm and vacuum sealed and frozen would this still apply? Thank you, I appreciate your thoughts,.-Lillian
Correct me if I'm wrong but peas aren't great if you have any type of IBS, because it's rich in fiber. So maybe to avoid on phase 1 for people with IBS or other chronic illnesses in the gut.
Hi Marisa, I have a question. You said Full GAPS you can do winter squash, like butternut? In Dr. Natasha’s yellow book she says you can add butternut squash in stage 3 to make the pancakes?? Now I’m confused. Becky Plotner also mentions winter Squash being a Full GAPS food.
Question from someone who knows nothing. Why does the ratio of bones to water matter? Even if it doesn't gel, wouldn't it still contain the gelatin? Just more diluted maybe? Is this purely for taste and texture? Or does it also impact the nutritional quality. Thanks!
Love the tea strainer idea especially with it being plastic free and reusable :) Also are you able to save the bones and reuse them to make bone broth? Another youtuber said you can use bones more than once when making a batch of bone broth. Just trying to think of getting my money's worth.
Iv'e just been wondering what got you into doing this lifestyle? By making all your foods from scratch. Did you grow up in a home like this? As you have a very broad knowledge when it comes to "homemade"
Great question! I did grow up this way, so I have my mom to thank for a lot of it, and I think that's how I grew to love it :) Plus I've seen the difference it makes in my health and how I feel!
Thank you for your wonderful videos, I’m watching all of them and it is a delight to see everything you do and the dishes look soooo good. How can I buy the tallow to cook with it. I went into your online shop but I only see the lotions and shampoo.
I’m doing stage one but I’ve been avoiding peas because I thought they had too much fibre. Is it ok for me to add them in ?.Many thanks for the great vids.😊
I am at 4 weeks on a very strict intro diet, can barley tolerate 3mills of kraut juice per meal, anything more is a shock to my colon with my legs in constant burning, itching has slowed down, I guess I am on stage one for a long long time
Dr. Natasha recommend stage 1 for only a few days, 7 days at the longest, then move to stage 2. It sounds like you need to stop kraut juice for a bit, then start again with much, much less. Sending well wishes!
Hi! I am looking to use GAPS to heal seriously terrible (all over my body) eczema. Do you think you can fully heal for two year of doing the gaps diet, even if you get pregnant in the middle of the duration?
Great question! I'm sorry about the eczema :( I would say there is a good chance! It's also hard to say because it's very individual. I hope that helps!
Where do you buy beef bones for the broth? I’ve heard Whole Foods sells beef bones or tallow bones. Is there some where you purchase your beef bones or do you just use the bones from meat you previously ate?
I’m doing this right now and I feel like I’m breaking some rule of cooking…. I’m using lamb shanks and beef bones! It’s what I found at the farmers market 🤷🏽♂️😹 I don’t know if mixing animals is a thing…
@@bumblebeeapothecary It turned out! And wow the "stock" is almost solid; it's so gelatinous! Way different than the chicken stock I made. I made mine with pumpkin, mushrooms and collards (onions, garlic, turmeric, and ginger, too). I decided the peas would help so I added those the next day. Thanks so much for teaching me to cook!!
Hi, thanks for this video. I have a question. I'm on GAPS diet for leaky gut and for stage 1 should i consume this beef soup without meat or with meat. Thanks 😊
Also, Peas are high fiber. So can peas be a problem and cause bloating and gas? If you have a damaged gut then wouldn’t peas be a problem? I don’t think carrots are a problem for me but beginning to wonder if peas are! 😑
I am planning to buy a Berkey water filter, but my friend who own one is telling me that she does worry that the water in the lower chamber is in contact with the plastic of the fluoride filters. Is that something that I should worry about?
I am on stage one of the GAPS diet. I was unable to prepare because I was kind of forced into it by my body. I was having all kinds of stomach pain and nausea, the doctor thinks I have some form of acid reflux gastritis. So I am barely able to stand drinking the chicken stock I made, in fact this morning just the smell of it made me super nauseated, I haven't eaten any all day. What would you recommend I do?
Sorry to hear that! It might depend on the ingredients you used, or your body might need a different starting method. Send me a message on Instagram @bumblebeeapothecary and I'd be happy to talk further and figure this out. Sending well wishes!
I like to get it from local farmers. It's the best quality that way for the best price, and I think it's important to support good farmers. You can use grocery store meat, but you won't know as much about how the animal was raised.
I am studying this diet. I have many questions. Do you have a direct email where I can ask you some more questions? What size Dutch oven is the one you used?
Yes, I've cooked bone broth like that, but bone broth isn't allowed on GAPS intro. But it can be good on full GAPS or off of GAPS. Cooking the bones that long extracts a lot of nutrients :)
Hi Marisa, I made some plain beef stock today with a variety of bones and salt and pepper. I’m trying to identify a mushy brownish substance that seems to be suspended between the tallow that has risen to the top and the stock/water below. Is it ok to leave it in there or should I try to strain it out. Thanks
I know, it's hard at first! It gets easier :) Dr. Natasha recommends most people plan on GAPS for two years. Some don't need that long, some need it longer, it's very individual. I did it for two years.
@@bumblebeeapothecary oh wow and then after 2 years you reintroduced cookie or ice cream or a bite of an Oreo? I’m sure you make all your desserts homemade! But what if you go to a carnival and want a deep fried Oreo 😭😭🥹🙏? Lol
Good point! We are able to have it so that's why I showed serving it that way, but on stage one Dr. Natasha recommends the liquid only. Thanks for pointing that out :)
What an absolute waste when you said bone broth but tossing out the vegetables! Freeze them instead and then add them when you can eat them again in that broth veggie soup. Never throw out good healthy food!

Thank you merissa
Thank you Marissa that is an excellent
Thank you for sharing your gifts with others! My blood pressure has been high, so I am going to try the GAPS diet. God bless you and your family! .

Thank you! Yes you can definitely save the bones and make broth later. You can freeze them to store them :)
What are the directions for being made on the stovetop?
Do you cook with all the fat on? Isn't it unhealthy? Should i cut the excess fat off before cooking? Can you do this with any animal e.g lamb?
What is the size of the dutch oven are you using?
Its the 7-quart size :)
Awesome! Thanks for sharing 🐝

I ask for all the raw bones when I buy a half or whole cow from a local farmer :) You can also get them here: grasslandbeef.com/?affId=217057

I often do add them frozen and it works fine :)

Would love to have your opinion on cooking in the instant pot, thank you.
Dr. Natasha doesn't recommend pressure cooking on GAPS because too many nutrients are destroyed. You can use the slow cooker setting, though :)
So what's the difference between this beef soup and broth?
You're basically making broth/meat stock at the same time when you make this soup :)
Hi, thanks for this video. I have a question. I'm on GAPS diet for leaky gut and for stage 1 should i consume this beef soup without meat or with meat. Thanks 😊
You're welcome! Yes, you should eat the meat with the soup :)
Can the bones be used again?
Yes :)
Nice Presentation
Thank you!
Do you offer cooking classes online for intro thats more detailed easy instructions as starting is overwhelming
Yes, I'm working on that! You'll want to sign up for my free class on how to start the GAPS diet: www.subscribepage.com/n1s5z5

Peas are high fiber. So can peas be a problem and cause bloating and gas? If you have a damaged gut then wouldn’t peas be a problem? I don’t think carrots are a problem for me but beginning to wonder if peas are! 😑
Could this be made in a crockpot, I hate to leave my oven on for so long, thanks!
Yes, that would work great! I would do that if I weren't home all day :)
Hi if I strat gab diet for my child for autism can I give him this soup to him on stage one please answer
Yes you can!
Can you ad bay leaves on the gaps intro diet?
Yes, as long as your body seems to enjoy them, they are allowed :)
I am planning to buy a Berkey water filter, but my friend who own one is telling me that she does worry that the water in the lower chamber is in contact with the plastic of the fluoride filters. Is that something that I should worry about?
That's an interesting thought! I haven't heard any concerns about it, but I'll have to look into it more.

I like to get it from local farmers. It's the best quality that way for the best price, and I think it's important to support good farmers. You can use grocery store meat, but you won't know as much about how the animal was raised.
can i cook that in a pressure cooker?
Yes you can; I don't just because pressure cookers aren't recommended on GAPS :)
3:20 Genius!
also, how do your shoulders feel carrying your baby on your back?
Thanks! This is a nice carrier that distributes the weight, so I do okay for a while. He's getting big, though!

What size Dutch oven is the one you used?
Yes! My email is marisa(at)bumblebeeapothecary.com It's a big 8 quart dutch oven.
Thank you! Where did you get that one?
And could you use one that’s enameled? Or better not enameled?
This can we give to children like 4 years old
Yes! My children ages 2, 4, and 7 love this :)
Looks yummy. Have you ever cooked bone broth for days? I've heard of cooking the bones so long that they crumble. Is that a good idea?
Yes, I've cooked bone broth like that, but bone broth isn't allowed on GAPS intro. But it can be good on full GAPS or off of GAPS. Cooking the bones that long extracts a lot of nutrients :)

I see that sometimes, I don't think it needs to be strained out :) It's probably just little tiny bits of solids that make it past the strainer.
This is cooking on my stove right now 👌☺️
Perfect!
❤
Is it ok to wear your meat before to give it more flavor?
Yes! Searing isn't allowed on the earlier stages of GAPS intro, but in stage 4 you can start doing it to enhance the flavor :)
That was a beef soup recipe Marisa
