Starship Flight 4 Rollout For Upcoming WDR But FAA License: Launch In May?
Well, here we are, almost halfway through May, the month that SpaceX leaders estimated for Flight 4. Recently, both the S29 and B11 have shown notable movements, but the likelihood of a launch seems to be diminishing with each passing day, primarily due to the lack of significant progress in FAA procedures.
So, what exactly is happening? Is this merely a delay, or is SpaceX pursuing a bold, unconventional plan? Stay tuned as we delve into this and more in today's episode of Great SpaceX.
Starship Flight 4 Rollout For Upcoming WDR But FAA License: Launch In May?
Honestly, SpaceX surprised everyone by swiftly preparing for Flight 4 immediately after completing Flight 3. Just 10 days after the third flight, S29 underwent 2 static fire tests, followed by a similar test with B11 a week later. The Orbital Launch Mount (OLM) and Launch Tower are also undergoing continuous upgrades in preparation for the flight, creating a sense that liftoff could happen at any moment.

Then, SpaceX leaders announced May as the target month for Flight 4.
However, progress has significantly slowed down since the testing attempts. S29 and B11 were both rolled to the Production Site for upgrades. In fact, these two prototypes only have one Wet Dress Rehearsal test left before the launch, and SpaceX is poised to complete it very quickly.

That isn't going to happen, but they do need to start thinking about spaceflight like we do air flight. Imagine if every plane flight had to apply for a licence prior to take off.

Although...your statement is correct ...to a point...remember...FAA can only give approval only AFTER SpaceX submits the accident report with needed changes...this as of just a couple days ago hasn't happened from SpaceX..

So SpaceX should gets its skates on about producing that flight safety report, so that the FAA can begin its review of it.

The ball is in SpaceX’s court at present.
It’s up to them to speed up their report, and present it to the FAA, before the FAA can approve it.

Apparently, Starship will not fly in May, the investigation will be closed no earlier than 15 days after the report on the incidents of the third flight is submitted. And the license will be issued in 15-20 days after the closure of the investigation. Potentially June 1 or 4.

The FAA License is supposed to be about safety. The last two flights IFT2 and IFT3 have proven that they are sufficiently safe for robotic experimental flights, with no crew.
Clearly IFT4 should be at least as safe as IFT3 was, and hopefully will complete more of the flight program.
It ought to be a fairly easy approval for the next experimental flight.

If space x manage to moon and Mars, with starship and let's say that it's caring hundreds of tonnes in cargo, shorly the forces needed from the raptor engines to land would blast a hole and create an enormous dust cloud that no one could see the starship would fall over on such uneven ground 🤔

FAA needs to explain just why it is stalling in giving launch approval to Spacex, and what is their excuse(s) in not already provided approval ? And just when does it intend to provide approval ?
FAA needs to explain their deliberate apparent partisan political delay ! This is far too important to be playing politics !
And now, FAA called for a full EIS for Cape Canaveral Spacex launches from Pad 39A, equallying 12 to 20 months or more delay. This is not satisfactory !

Why hasn't SpaceX provided a findings report to the FAA? If anyone is delaying the launch of IFT 4 its SpaceX.
Could it be that SpaceX engineers can't quite figure out what went wrong on each of the stages? OR is it possible that the changes the engineers identified as necessary can't be made on all the presently available units so "cross your fingers" fixes are being implemented. When production gets WAY ahead of test results these things happen.

SpaceX is responsible for the delay because changes to the booster and starship took longer than anticipated. The FAA launch license can’t be issued til there is a WDR. The FAA already said based on IFT-3 that processing the mishap report wont take long. But SpaceX can’t complete the mishap report until they complete the changes. The last license took two weeks and had a booster that blew up and a ship that blew up. Neither happened in the last flight so processing will be faster. I think you are far too pessimistic based on the facts.
