I have this sharpener. Its a fantastic piece of equipment. You mention diamond stones. Venev makes great diamond stones for this. I enjoy my venev stones in 100% concentration and recommend them. Take the blades to 8k then strop with jende strops and diamond emulsion. You get an incredible edge. Thanks for doing the review. Enjoy that beastly sharpener.
Is this sharpener gives mirror finish like wicked edge .thanks
Thanks for the review, just ordered one. You assembled the base upside down. The base has a detent that you can see in 0:43 , the sharpener should be inserted into this detent and seats flush with the base.
nice review! have been looking into this system for a little while now.
If your looking to sharpen your pocket knives I'd suggest the tsprof blitz. It's just as well built and the blitz 360 (the deluxe version) is 315$. It retired my kme for 2 reasons, the double clamping system and the ability to use 6 inch stones.
@@shaunbryan3421 I make knives ranging from bushcrafters and hunters to round knives and kiridashi I'm looking for a system to possibly do all of these. I also want to be able to do convex edges.
@@vandelftcrafts2958 I do know that the kme system sells a convexing rod attachment. I'm not sure if tsprof sells one for their systems the K0 series or the Blitz models but I'm 80% sure that they must make one. The Blitz maxes out at blade length of 7.8 inch.
@@shaunbryan3421 Hey Shaun! Done: for blitz: shop.tsprof.com/catalog/tsprof_blitz/nasadka_linza_tsprof_mini/ for K03: shop.tsprof.com/catalog/parts/universal_attachment_for_the_convex_edge_4_3_7_2_10_7/
Hey Walter. Just wondering about all the wiggle. It looks like the wobbling is from the base and the whole unit is moving as one. This seems ok. But if there's movement/flexing in the various parts, then that's gonna throw off accuracy. Any thoughts on if it's one or the other?
At about 6:03, it looks like the knife pivot is moving. That'll hose your angle. Plus, I'm wondering if the clamps don't need to be further out to the tip to prevent the blade flexing and again, changing the sharpening angle.
And yeah, that $$$. Ouch!
The wobble is primarily from the plywood table he is sharpening on 5:47 and as a few commenters noticed, he apparently attached the machine to the base backwards which may also have something to do with it.
I said samething to this other guy, it appears these devices wobble due to the base not being wide enough and heavy enough.. considering this wobbly aspect, it has an affect on the angle...smdh
What!! 400$ for what looks like a CNC milled aluminum apparatus? That is a price tag from the nineties. The over engineering is no surprise; that’s typical for Russian manufacturing. If you look at Russian knife bushcrafting reviews, its astonishing what those guys expect from a knife. Compared to US/European reviews, where knives are treated like lady friends.
I have the blitz 360 and it gets my pocket knives extremely sharp with minimal effort. I hesitated for a long time on buying a K03 because I don't sharpen any big knives. But once I saw the blitz I just knew it was going to retire my kme. BTW the blitz does come with diamond stones.
Wow...so much flex with the big kitchen knife. Actually I see two sourses of flex.
Unacceptable for that kind of money.
Thanks for sharing, thumbs up.
I got a simpler, but similar system from Wasabi Knives. the Iki Ruixin Pro. Works fine for me.
Damn! I was seriously looking at this, but it's Russian. Sorry, I can't knowingly send money to Russia until they get out of Ukraine and pay for rebuilding
Looks like it was trying to flip when you were sharpening. You were holding the ends of the larger knife which made it more obvious it wanted to flip.
Not sure I like that and need to do more reviewing.
Well, my price guess at the beginning of the video was correct. Clearly I am not in the target market for this, but thanks for your comprehensive review.
I have one and I absolutely love it.
when you get to the end of the knife the turner was moving which would mess up the angle, very bad design on the turn but looks really sturdy aside from that
Nice to hear your take on this system. I have been using mine for a few months now.....I'm still amazed at the results obtained.
Few quick points....the system is compatible with all edge pro format stones in 6" but to me the biggest advantage is the ability to use 8x3 waterstones ...cuts sharpening time easily in half.
Again thank you for a informative video.
I’ve seen similar ones on eBay but they are probably coming from China 🤔
You have the knife flip function set way too loose - see how you keep grabbing the knife handle and putting your fingers under the blade when flipped. As such, your sharpening angle too is being affected.
Amortization is also used in Polish and i suspect in Russian to describe distributing force of an impact over a larger area/distance/time; cushioning.
FAIL. You just held up the base showing the place where to mount the unit at 0:43 and then you mounted it on the opposite side. Of course it's flexing all over the place. Secondly, you didn't tighten it enough so it wouldn't have much lateral flexing. I thought you said the manual was well written? FYI, I own this unit and it works flawlessly, if you follow the directions.
Worksharp 3000 does all this and more. And it's made in USA.
The stones coming with this system are diamond stones
Damn... way too rich for my blood after conversion to $CAD. I'll stick with my Lansky stones
I got one, just love the system.
Every man should have one
I bought the “Ketiped” knife sharpener. I received it yesterday from Amazon and it was about $129.00.
I couldn’t believe how heavy the box was when I picked it up. This thing is built like a tank and does everything I need. I really was surprised at the quality of it. I think it probably came from the land of the rising sun. Well maybe that really wasn’t where it came from but the instructions made me think that. They usually make quality items these days.
All in all, I am pleased as punch and believe I got more for my money than usual.
One that is a bit less expensive is the KME Sharpener. The only drawback to the KME is that it doesn't work well for large knives, but for most knives it is superb! The TSProf is essentially a larger, industrial-grade KME.
Nice review. I almost pulled the trigger on this one a couple of years ago. I managed to find a Chinesium version of this style that is solid and accurate, believe me - it took time to find. The damn thing actually performs perfectly. Cost in Canadian money? $38.00. I've been making knives for thirty years and can't afford to scratch a customer's blade by an oops on water stones.
Any review of all things knifey are fun and welcome -Thanks
Do you happen to still have a link or know which website you found the chicom version on?
@@panzerkiller13 Yep. I got mine on Wish. They cost $78 now. Worth it too. They also have the diamond stones and leather strops that fit the sharpener. 👍
Might be a nice well made system, but nearly $900 is ridiculous price. Get a Lansky, nothing fancy but it works for $50.
Here in Russia, i purchased this sharp system last year about 350 bucks. But my sharpener has one awesome option it's upgrade slip bushing lift, plus 10 degrees to these 23 degrees.
I have the blitz 360, you can make a butter knife single pass shaving sharp in about 8 minutes once you get the hang of it. It really is a great tool even for the novice, because it is built to last a lifetime
Thanks for the review. I have always been obsessed with sharp knives and have, over the years owned about every sharpening system known to man. You are correct with respect to the price, but in this case, you get what you pay for. I think we can credit EdgePro's Ben Dale for his setting the standard on stones... these days there are hundreds of stones available that fit the K03 and other similar sharpeners (Gritomatic, being one). I can tell you this, once you use this thing, there is no going back... it is hands down the best. And, while the engineering is near equal to the K03, I would pass on the Blitz... it's just to small and restrictive. My one suggestion to TSProf is to offer a quality scissor clamp or jig as their small universal table falls short of allowing precision work on salon shears or anything fine. PS... I see several comments on the movement... mine is clamped to my bench and is rock solid (zero movement).
How does this system remedy the issue with clamping knives with full flat grinds? I have the KME system and with a similar clamp it makes the grind uneven when you flip it over.
It doesn't.
The clamp in fact has some flex as you tighten down on the blade which follows the grind. Gritomatic also sells aftermarket clamps in various angles to follow the blade ground even tighter.
That's your kitchen knife?? Well, I suppose it's true: the cobblers wife never has any shoes haha
Great video! I was going to buy one of these a couple years back but they were out. lol It's all good though. I've been sharpening by hand for 30 years and honestly don't need one. I do really like these guys though.
I don’t see a stone thickness compensator on that one like the Kadet model. No tweaking angles if you use different thickness stones.
Yeah, for the price, it isn't for any hobbiest that doesn't have money to burn. I'd still love to have one though.
I have a Tormek but it’s in the garage. Winter time no fun in my garage. This is therapy. 😂
Way too much movement for the price. Not only the baseplate rocks but the clamp too. That's not really industrial standard.
it looks like Walter did not fix the system to the bench for this video. also it seems moving a lot more than in other review videos so not sure why.
He's got it on a piece of plywood sheeting that looks cantilevered over a bench for petes sake. You can't judge stability by that. Look at some other videos on TSPROF.
For a real dull or new blade I like using my 2x72 and a 2500 grit belt. Followed with a good strop and it’s shaving sharp. A touch up sharpening, a paper wheel then a strop seems to work quite well.
Now talking about an expensive knife sharpener 2 by 72 belt grinder is going to cost you somewhere close to a $1000 bucks for the cheaper ones to the skies the limit as far as money and the bells and whistles you want on your grinder! 😂
wobbles too much....
Knife sharpener kosim company
Thanks for making these videos!!!
Looks like a Lansky on Vodka.
From Russia with love:)
Might as well review a rolls royce as well. Price to feature with other brands it is a bit better. But is it 3x the price better? Probably not.
I guess some of the benefit is speed and ease of adjustment, which is only going to be worth it if you're processing *vast* numbers of knives. Or if your time is worth way more than mine is worth...
Depends on what you're using it for. If you're just sharpening your own knives, maybe not worth it. If you're sharpening for money it may be a good investment.
Yes it is three times the price better when you can quickly compensate for various thickness stones, strops, and films just by putting an angle gauge on the arm and raising/lowering the jack screw in the back until you reach the same angle.
Also seems the clamps are moving a little.
I wish I had purchased this system instead of the wicked edge. It's on my shopping list for later however.
Hapstone R2 from gritomatic is not bad either. I have that sharpener standard version as well as the Wicked Edge WE220 Field and Sport model. I use Hapstone R2 for fixed blades like Busse and Wicked Edge for my folding pocket knives.
Really enjoyed the review...
We made a version of this bit for swords. It's got a 4 foot swing on the stone arm 😋
you can sharpen swords with this no problem
The 3 systems I have been looking at are the Blitz 360, the Hapstone R2 and the KME, right now the KME is leading the race.
Could you tell us why?)
@@TSPROFSharpening Price for what you get. I am looking at either the deluxe system for $319.95, or getting a used one on ebay.
I have both the KME and K03. Advantages are KME has a more flexible clamp devices that will follow the contour of any knife. The K03 has a MUCH smoother and quicker stone thickness compensator. You can dial in the angle to the tenth of a degree with the rear jack screw and a digital angle gauge placed on the arm.
Your table was so annoying :(
Good video Walt, thanks
Little much for the average person I have a lanskey works great only cost like 50 bucks.
Every time I see one of these Alfred E Newman devices I am thankful to my father who taught me how to sharpen knives, chisels, axes, chainsaws, etc freehand and achieve excellent results.
If your any kind of man you should be able to use a oil or wheatstone to sharpen freehand. . However, as a master painter can take years of practice, thousands of hours of experience and free hand a straight line. A inexperienced person can take some masking tape and make a finer straighter edge that's perfectly accurate. No freehand edge will ever be or could ever be as straight, consistent with tolerance ranges less than ten thousands as this ( I have the K03 I use CBN, Arkansas translucent..much more in stones than the actual sharpener.) For the camper, holiday chefs.. free hand is fine. For those of us seeking absolute perfection edges scoring sub 30s. Far far beyond razor sharp. It's no contest. There is some junk out there. This is not one of them. Not trying to to argue. It just is what it is. A quality scope beats iron sights at 500 yards any day. There's good enough and then there is the pursuit of perfection. It's not for everyone.
@@americangraffiti6192 Fair enough. No doubt a quality scanner and robot could paint a Michael Angelo reproduction complete with new paint that doesn't show the ravages of time that in any mathematical analysis would beat the original in every way. As for me, I think I will always prefer the original. Not to mention, in many of the finest gun making houses in the world, after the computers are finished, the final barrel tuning is still done by hand. It might exist, but I have never seen an edge equal what I can put on any of my straight razors by hand.
Way to expensive! A Ruixin Pro is basically the same and costs less than a 1/10 . The hight adjustment is not well built. I like the clamps. Good engineering there! Maybe buy the clamps and put them on the Ruixin.
It's a nice system, but damn it's more expensive than a fully equipped Tornek
I have a Tormek T-8 and its pretty nice but the WEN from home depot is virtually the same thing and only $200, it works just as well as the $800 Tormek
I have the Grizzly Tormek clone. As a knife maker, it takes way too long to set the edge from scratch. However, if someone wants to sharpen the knives they already have, it would be very good.
Dont know where hou get your tormek from but a tormek here costs €800
No chance to mess up the heat on the edge like you can with a Tormek. So there's that.
8:58 into the review you have a pocket knife in the clamps... The K03 really can't do pocket knives due to the hardware in the center of the rail. The clamps are too far apart. Glad the Blitz 360 can handle smaller blades. Thanks for the video.
Cheaper than Wicked Edge, built better than Edge Pro, but $400...Maybe later if I can't make one myself. Keep the vids coming Mr. Sorrells! Aloha from Hawaii!
Honestly this is probably the best system in its class. People are complaining over the price? Its abkut 1/3 the cost of a mad edge system. And no its definately not in the region of a tormek system. Thats about €800 here for me. I currently use the lanskey system. Great for what it is, but has its limitations. The trsprof is my next upgrade. You cant go wrong for the money and quality!
Very nice bit of kit. However, very expensive, I can buy a new 550w belt and disc sander and have £100 left over for spare belts and sharpening stones. Still really nice though
Get a smith's guided sharpener and hold the knife/stone like you would with a normal small stone. 99% as effective as this, 10x faster and easier ergonomically, and 1% of the price...
I'll second the diamond Abrasives.
I go from the belt grinder to the diamond stones. Perhaps my Tormek if it's too bad then oil stones, strop.
Question though serrated and recurve blades are moor and more common. So, I Am looking into something like this for recurves, but precise for like a birds beak. & Serrated bread knives??
Can you help on this Walter
Отличная точилка!
Question, I ordered the tsprof a few days ago. I asked the company for ship status but they don’t respond. How long did it take for you to get your sharpener? Should I be worried? Thanks
I have been freehand sharpening for over 40 years and have never seen the practicality of a huge piece hardware that you have to fiddle with and store. All pro-chiefs I know have learned to hand sharpen. Still love your channel.
Great review! Spot on in terms of "Who should buy the system" much appreciated.
You are right, Walter, these stones made of SiC. But these are water stones not oil. If you want to use these stones with oil, you need to soak completely with oil. Otherwise stones work not very well.
There you go...a $200 sharpner to sharpen a $80 knife....🤣🤣😫
Another ridiculously over priced knife sharpener unbelievable
Pro chef would carry two stones and do it freehand in like 3 minutes. Yeah, when your knife is getting worn out, how you gonna profile it with this geeky toy?
I purchased a K03 exactly like the one reviewed here. I just
That is some serious engineering and precision. I wouldn't be surprised if Sukhoi or Mikoyan designed it. Thanks for the knife maker take on it. The Tormek 8 is quicker if your looking for the same standard of engineering and a concave somewhat weaker some say more slicey edge.
Yep, it's for me...my pocketbook, however, not so much. :(
That particular model is way more than $400
Looks wobblier than jelly in an earthquake
This style of sharpener seems kinda common in Russia, this is the third seperate company I've seen selling a similar design.
Thanks for your time, effort and honest opinion on this one. Looks great but im gonna stick with my tormek. God bless brother.
I have the Ko2 and feel it is the best investment I ever made. Those looked like the Boride stones.
Now these guy believe in a bigger hammer...
It's like a Landsky System, 2.2
I received mine on 08/30/22 and can't say it was so smooth of an assembly. The box had been dropped on the corner and the wooden crate was busted. The logistics company that TSPROF.US used to fulfill the order put the tsprof box inside of a larger box with virtually no packing and when I received it from UPS the shipping tape was busted on both ends . Long story short the mechanical angle gauge was bent pretty bad which I blame on the shipper but the fact that the thumb screws that hold the unit to the weighted base would only thread in by hand about one third of the way and had to be tightened the rest of the way with pliers leaves me to wonder just what kind of quality control issues the company has. I am not happy with my purchase.
Hi
What was the other system you mentioned ? TourMec ?
I have had an Edge Pro Professional for many years, but just seen these and the Hapstone R2, clamping / rotating systems... Gotta have one... but interested by that other device you mentioned
Thanks
Tormek
Dat price, i do same with wood and chinese diamond plate
I hate a dull knife in my home. I have this K03 machine for a few months. I just can't get a very sharp edge knife like I get with my HF 1 x 30 belt sander. Don't get me wrong the K03 machine seems like a very fine thought out machine . I think it's me that is doing something wrong. But it's frustrating spending BIG bucks to not to achieve better results.
Walter you do a super job from the machine shop you operate.
Hello Gregory! We answered you at another comment, please see it
Bloody wobbly
The 3D printable versions of this are IMO almost as good as this. They only lack the 180' rotation. I personally prefer a model with magnets since with this one, you cannot (easily) sharpen narrow blades such as filleting knives.
Have a look on Thingiverse for the "Leadingedge" sharpener. It has a clever rotatable clamp system for some knives, and can sharpen narrow, longer blades with its various other attachments. It will even do scissors.
@@burtjoubert If you are referring to 4135236, this design cannot handle narrow blades. And by narrow, I mean 'not tall', although filleting knives are usually also 'thin'. For example, my Fiskars filleting knife is 13x0.9mm. You absolutely _cannot_ have a clamp on it, and even the backing plate must be ground to an angle to prevent the stone grinding on it.
See:

(This is the turd I coded w/ OpenSCAD, and laser-cut from acrylic.)
BTW, I cannot see this kind of a 3D printed (plastic) 'rotation' jig yielding better than 2' precision. I think the 'two-sided' (two-stone) sharpener would be the best solution, but I am yet to find the time to model and cut it...
@@MrZetor Wow, cool design! Nicely done acrylic design. With the Thingiverse "Leadingedge" sharpener, try using the "Straight razor guide" (one of the printable parts). That works well for thin knives like yours. Alternatively, removing the guide / backing plate altogether only using the neodymium magnets on a very thin knife will also work very well. Use a bit of painters tape over the magnets, and draw a line on it as a position guide for when you turn the knife over.
Cool to hear your opinion. Should do the Ken Onion edition worksharp next...
Looks like a very nice system, the other ones look really janky. Good review
Any reason to use this or a Wicked Edge over a 2x72 grinder with a selection of belts?
Yes, there are some. Most obvious: overheating of the blade, inevitable convex of the secondary bevel
your review is full of Russian stereotypes, it's like saying that all Americans eat only at Macdo
That's all we eat over here.
