There are LOTS of videos of people attempting to start this saw.
Unfortunately, Most of them do not know the proper start sequence.
    When cold:
    1) pull the choke.
    2) Set the throttle to high idle
    3) turn switch to run
    4) pull the rope until the engine starts and dies. (usually 4 or 5 pulls)
    5 ) close choke
    6) pull rope until the saw stats and runs at fast idle. (usually 2 or 3 pulls)
    7) blip the throttle to drop out of fast idle.
    8) cut wood.
    When warm:
    1) Set throttle to fast idle.
    2) turn switch to run
    3) pull rope
    4) blip the throttle to drop out of fast idle.
    5) cut wood
If you follow the EXACT start sequence, this saw will start every single time with precision.
We have heated our house with one that we bought new in 1981 until today, and it starts and runs exactly as it did from day one.
    Have fun!

Took me forever to understand what fast idle was, turns out the guy I bought it from had electrical taped the throttle lock down! Thank you so much for your comment, and to the poster for the video, for the thing started right quick.

I have owned 4 610s. They are decent saws, but require a little familiarity to get the most out of them. Heavy but good power. Not for a weak back, big man saw, if you have back problems, I recommend a lighter saw. I still run mine but just 1 tank at a time then rest my back, 2 tanks is a little much. Back in the 80's not a problem.
I have run stihl, husky, homelite, johnsred, poorlan, echo, and some others. My 025 Stihl was my favorate, but grew up using the Mac 610 so its like an old friend.
Homelite are nice and cheap, good saws, I do not like Poulan s, i've had a few, if I never work on one again would be fine with me. Long live the Ole 610..
Owe.. the young boy is going places, God be with him, our future. .

Yep. I think my grandpa bought that saw in the late ‘70s. It’s a lot heavier than the newer ones. I do like my Stihl though.
