Thanks a lot Cheech! My name is John. I'm a 60 year old man in California with spina bifida and I use a wheelchair. I'm a new tyer so I love your videos. I learn a lot and they inspire me to learn more and do better. Thanks brother.
Seems that Brian Wise, Tim Flagler and you are working hard to advance the knowledge and skills of fly tiers. I commend you all.
Maybe Fly Tyer magazine should launch a new award, Tying Instructor of the Year. In my opinion you or Brian should receive the first award. Not that Tim isn't deserving but he already received the Fly Tyer of the Year one.
Cheech is on of the rare flytiers who have nails cut nicely. Fingers skin is rough because of fishing and that is fine, but when I see long dirty nails (or barbed hook) I can't watch videos. Way to go Cheech. Thank you for great videos.
LOVE your strategy!! LMAO. Great video.
always worthwhile
aacckkk! the pressure about the friends!!! gasp.....great tips though....thanks for the video.
That was beautiful
These are great! I started tying pre-internet so it was books and trial and error. These hacks are simple, but so fundamental. Makes tying a whole lot more fun. Good job.
Tying before the internet is one of the most challenging things I’ve done. Especially when there isn’t anyone around to help.
I have been enjoying these very much. Love the product bubble links while it played.
Great hack vids! Keep em coming. Always could use deer hair head hacks. Muddler heads, Dungeon heads. Mine always end up like my mother’s haircuts..
These are excellent videos for those that haven't been doing this long. Good stuff, Cheech!
I add a little superglue to the thread with a bodkin before wrapping up the post. It makes it nice and "stiffish" and easier to work with as far as wrapping the hackle. Loving the skill builders, keep 'em coming!
Super easy way to get the flash out of the corner of the bag is to use your whip finisher. It has the tiny little hook at the end of it that is perfect for pulling out a few strands of flesh.
Sorry Cheech I dont know 5 people that tie flys or fly fish but keep um coming anyway.
Thanks. These videos are great.
great video cheech! I'm 14 old texan and have been tying flies for about 4 years, and have fished most western states, but am going to be fishing the rest this summer! hope to come up and see y'all this summer!!
I only use that parahute method on small flies. In my country we normally use 8-12 size flies so bulk under the hook does not matter.Nice tips btw
Love the skill builder series Cheech. How about one on preventing scud back from sliding off to one side or the other of your hook shank?
Love these videos. Plz make a streamer versions with different heads, different tails and articulation.
Greetings from Iceland.
Nice job Cheech! I’m just playing with fly tying and your “hacks” are appreciated! I tied many years ago when dubbing was unheard of and I just used chenille for the bodies. I’m 77 and hobble around with a cane. My better fishing days are a memory but I enjoy tying with all this new fangled materials and methods. Keep it up!
You are a fellow Oakland A’s fan!👍🏻 What do you think of their move to L V?
Thanx for all your videos!!
Michael Skehen
Thanks! I’m maybe the only A’s fan that’s OK with the move. The coliseum is a disaster!
These tips are great!!
Another awesome video. My parachute flies will benefit greatly from these tips. Also I like the idea of of using the marker for the spot. I tried using fingernail polish but it takes too long to dry. Then I tried colored UV epoxy and it’s to light. Definitely trying the marker now.
FFF Gang - very good videos with great tips and tricks for not only beginners but folks that have been tying for years. Thanks - Great Idea.
Here is a lesson that would serve many new tiers and old alike in my humble opinion, and that is a full on nothing but nerded out dubbing lesson. Would be great to show the difference between short fibered spiky dub (nymph and emerger) vs long fibered soft dub (dry fly and streamer heads). Would love to see a one stop video that showed dubbing techniques as well with everything from simple twisted dubbing noodle, split thread to get extremely tight rope like noodles, split thread to get a shaggy and longer body, split thread multi material (complex twist), and direct dub technique for larger or thicker bodies (buggar type stuff). Could show as a bonus how to tie in long fibered dub like bruiser blend as a head and shaping your dubbing by trimming to shape, maybe even show the differences between a flat profile and more upright head for jerk style streamers vs a blocky low profile but bulkier head style for the sculpin-ish patterns for bottom dwellers. Just a suggestion and my 2¢. I see a lot of tiers on UA-cam attempting to emulate you Cheech as everyone seems to think they are rock star tiers and the first to come up with whatever pattern they are showing, however I find it to be a common theme amongst many of those tiers while I watch them dub for ten minutes, the lack of knowledge of dubbing techniques that might improve their pattern, their filming due to camera positioning, or just the amount of time they need to dub their pattern in general. Please help clean up the internet Cheech, please teach them the dark art and ways of the Dubbing masters?
@@FlyFishFood be a great reference and a one stop shop for all things dubbing, and a good way to pitch some bruiser blend, just sayin’
Like to use black hard as nails but have to deal with dry time. Durable and color true.
Would like to see methods and materials for building thorax on nymph flies. Also ways to use wiggle dub. Thanks.
Thanks,Cheech. Great lesson on tying posts. Happy New Year.
Great stuff Cheech! I’m always gunshy at about not whip finishing, but I’ll give it a try. Thanks for putting this series together.
Good stuff guys, Thanks. I would love to see some tips on deer hair heads and tying with foam.
My fishing isn’t gonna be bad for the year.. lol but holy smokes what a good couple hacks 😏 new tyer here and very happy to find this
Nicely done Chssch😉
Always great tutorials. Thanks
Love these skill building videos. Thanks
Very nice
Thanks a lot!!!
Charlie Craven with a marker is like Wyatt Earp with a pistol. Fast is fine but accuracy is final.
Thanks for the tips,I can use all the help I can get.
This series is incredible Keep it up
Very nice presentation.
Thanks for putting out another great video. Looking forward to trying the hacks.
Nice
Did you try the furled post method where you tie the parachute „upside down“? It‘s on another channel. I find it a lot more stable and the glue or varnish soaks down the post and secures everything..
How to create deer/elk hair heads on streamers.
SPINNING SEAT HAIR!
Great videos. Thank you. Can you demonstrate pinch wraps, or how to keep materials from spinning off the top of the hook. I assume those two things are synonymous.
Oh I could sense the superglue finish coming! A bunch of purists just lost it!! For what it's worth, the first I read of this technique was from the man himself, Dave Whitlock. If it's OK with him it works for me.
Great tip on the parachute, would you do some tips on cdc, both wings and collars? I struggle with both
Great video on the parachute. I would like to see how you handle the small weighted nymphs like the pheasant tail in size 18 and 20 ......what materials do you use to construct the pheasant tail nymph in those smaller sizes and how to you strive for the correct proportions with the bead in place...thank you
Great idea with the glue at the end instead of the whip finish. And that orange looks fantastic. What if you are using to pcs of hackle? Same technique? This was the best "hack"
video so far. Thanks!! HNY!!
Could a person just use a clear type pen to get that shiny look instead, to get that shiny look instead of using more of you pen that you used, or was that exactly what you did? Cause I mentioned before I played football and all I had to do was score TDs so I never payed that much attention. I mentioned that on a different tutorial. Thanks, Randy.
Hey I just got into fly tying I was wondering what is the best materials to buy like all around what is your top ten materials for fly tying all around
Just buy one pattern at a time. Nobody fishes or ties the same so we just recommend getting materials for specific flies.
I like the tips for tying a parachute but I don't understand why you use a back marker for the wing case on a perdigon. For me black UV resin is the way to go. I would like to see how to get a good 180 degree deer hair wing on comparaduns especially in small sizes like 20 and 22s. Tips on hackle stackers would also be appreciated. Thanks.
Black paint is more color true, some if not most colored resins tend to separate.
Resin is good but it’s hard to cure the whole glob of resin on one go. The resin underneath never cures because once the outer layer is cured it’s black and no other light can get through. Paint marker is easier and more durable.
I haven't had a problem with black UV resin separating especially if you shake the bottle before applying it and making sure you cure it properly, Also, do the fish really care about a "more true color"? Black is black. However, I would agree that other UV colored resins like orange and red tend to separate more than black.
hackz and skillz bruh
If I share this with my friends they will outfish me. If I share this with 5 friends this fish will get overly pressured. You really should just send these videos to me.
Using tapering shears?
Hmmm. I’ve tried them a few times. Not a big fan of they’re kind of tough to get stuff to look good
Awesome tips and tricks Cheech. Love what you guys do at FFF 🤘.
