I e been gay my whole life. It’s an attraction. It’s my sexuality even if trauma caused it. Please pray for me that I can stay strong and remain celibate. It’s a huge struggle for me.
Update: from this post and another one, I’m already doing better with one habit I had been trying to stop. FYI, yes, I appreciate all the suggestions and prayers.

Don't fight against it at all. Don't feel guilty and ashamed that is a block to loving God with your whole heart mind and soul. Just turn to God and love God with all your heart, mind and soul. To feel guilty and ashamed and feel condemned is what Satan wants you to feel.
If God says it is not good for a man to be lonely and created a woman, then I wanted to believe that a man with same sex attraction too have a chance to be untwisted.
It is always hurtful when I heard people (mostly married) said: "you can live a celibate life and stay single forever, and build a relationship with God" while I also desire a normal and happy marriage, becoming a father and a husband. Sometimes people do not know the pain of living with a SSA. I have never had a gay relationship since I knew that is wrong. I went to a psychologist a couple of times and ended up being told to give up my faith in Jesus and have a same sex relationship and live happily since I am currently suffering a depression because of this. I told my psychologist no.
I would rather die than giving up on Jesus.
But you know. As a human, I do have limitations. I am not as strong as Jesus. And in the past I was thinking about ending my life.
However, even if I do not know what the future holds, I know who holds my future.
I can only hope in Jesus.
Please pray for me and for those battling SSA, my brothers and sisters in Christ...
You are on the heroic path to sainthood, Jesus is with you and is fighting for you, He will not give up on You so take courage and remain with Him. God bless you truly.

I don't have anything clever or righteous to say. I'm not as well-versed as the other posters. But I do want to say to you Please, please, please don't take your life! I believe you when you say SSA is horrible to live with. You have my compassion. But I want to tell you that no matter what you have a life worth living, that you have a place and purpose here on earth, even if you don't quite understand what that purpose is. G*d knows, and that's all you need to know until He decides to fully reveal why you're here. The world would be that much worse if you were no longer in it. So, live! That's an order!

Same-sex attraction may cause guilt and depression, but so can hetero-sexual attraction. Many couples resort to adultery, divorce, and murder over a bad relationship. So, to avoid bad relationships, a straight person can choose to be single (myself included) and also may overcome depression, mostly by not self-blaming.
You're not alone in worldly struggles; many, if not all, people deal with something: disease, mental health, poverty, etc. It's good that you ignored the atheist psychologists' advice; Jesus is our best psychologist.

Misdirected compassion - I saw a whole episode with Bishop Sheen on this. Both Mother Angelica and Bishop Sheen hit the nail on the head and tell it like it is, however hard it may be to hear. God keep them both!

As a man who was BORN attracted to the same sex, I don't know what she meant by 'live that way.' How does one 'LIVE' gay? All my life I've done the exact same things that most straight men do. I don't 'live' any differently than they do. Had she instead said 'you may be born that way but you don't need to have sex with another male' that would have made MUCH more sense.

I don't believe that anyone is born homosexual. There is absolutely no scientific proof for this and a homosexual gene doesn't exist too. But it doesn't signify they are necessarily more sinful than I although I'm heterosexuell. I think God loves them too. They just have to try to avoid the practice of it. Of course they can fall. In this case they still can go to confession if they are Catholic. And as far I know even non Catholics can confess by a priest if they are baptised with the trinity formula accepted by the catholic church meaning in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. But if I'm wrong please correct me.

I sincerely believe that this why the Vatican did not release the third secret of Our Lady of Fatima in 1960 as demanded by heaven. Yes, Catholics have a lot of hatred for gay people and judge them. The exact things Jesus said we must not do. Jesus said our role is to love one another and to show compassion and mercy.
I think that dealing with their trauma and any other personal issues is the most important thing. Even though I am not gay, the act of sex itself is not worth killing yourself over. Helping gay people get to a healthy and safe place first is most important. Then they can begin to heal and think more clearly about their actions and decisions.
The correlation between abuse and LGBT orientation is just too strong to ignore. Stopping abuse and trauma is the most important thing. After that, helping those affected deal with their issues would be best. These two things can help set their souls on the right track. Then those affected will be able to have a deep think about their state of affairs.

I used to be *very* pro-lgbtabcd and abortion for years and supported every horrible thing they agreed on. Until I gave my heart to Christ. All those views began to change; something didn’t feel right and something wasn’t connecting nor making any sense.
My best friend considera himself a “bisexual” and we had this conversation because he wanted to know if my mind changed. I was confused and mostly because I thought a certain way, not because these people were right. So I asked God Himself through a prayer whether I should support or not. And I felt a “no” in me.
Weeks later we had that conversation again and I told him how I felt and what happened. I never spoke to *any* christian about whether I should or not support it, so there was no room for the word “brain washing” to be placed in that conversation.
We still talk and hang out, but that’s that.
As a lifelong Catholic who's heart has basically ALWAYS known Christ and who was BORN attracted to guys, where was your heart beforehand.
Gay and bi people and their so called 'movement' do not lobby for the right to have sex. That was settled decades ago. What they DO lobby for is for equality such as in the workplace, etc. Also, for anti discrimination laws because our Declaration of Independence states that ALL are created equal.
So did God tell you in that 'no' you heard to deliberately allow discrimination when applying for a job or to allow hate crimes simply because of the way a person was biologically born? If so, that was NOT the God that I was raised on and have known my entire life.
Also, why would you shy away from your best friend? Did he want to have sex with YOU? If not, you have no reason to not have the same relationship you had with him before.

I suggest you read the Bible

If you break it down line by line you will see Jesus doesn’t tell His disciples to not judge anyone ever instead He was saying the must live righteous lives so their judgement will not be rash judgement so their efforts to admonish their neighbours would be effective.
Jesus is cautioning against hypocrisy in your judgement of others.
Jesus tells us how to judge righteously- “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbour’s eye” (Matt. 7:5 NRSV-CE)
Also see the following Bible verses where we are told to judge righteously:
John 7:24; Matt. 18:15-17; 1 Cor. 5:12-13; 1 Cor. 6:2-18.
Even the OT says to judge righteously - Lev. 19:15.

I agree but I think many straight people take for granted the actual gay experience. It’s all well and good to say same-sex attracted people are called to a celibate and single life, but do you know how hard and hollowing that can feel? For me I have the strongest desire to have a family and get married, but being told that I can’t do that is so so hard. I’m not saying I will ever pursue a gay relationship, but it’s really something heavy to hear that I have to stay single for the rest of my life.
I’m not telling people to accept gay people, but I think we (especially those who understand the sin involved) get a lot of uninformed and ignorant hate from people thinking it’s a conscience choice we’re making.
But there are many single and celibate single people(I'm one of them). And it's not a Hollow empty experience, because with God it doesn't matter if your married or single, its all one and the same. When I hear people lament being single as a lonely painful experience I know for a fact that this is a person who has made an idol of relationships in their heart, they've put Man above God and when you do that you'll suffer. If you want to live a joyful life whether you're married or not, then put God as number 1, detach your heart from "created things" and attach it only to God. All of the great saints did this and their joy was overflowing. You have the answer to your problem and its not another person
Is it reasonable to compare what you call the gay experience to someone who visits a bar every night hoping to meet the right person? Not to mention the type of attraction involved. Such an attraction is never truly fulfilling, behaviours involved. It doesn't matter if it's some gay pride event or parade. It'll leave you empty, compared to what God can offer you.

Sexual abuse at a young age or any other traumatic experiences leaves one vulnerable to homosexuality. I am bisexual but thought I was lesbian at one point due to my hatred for men. I found that my attraction towards women was mainly lust. So I asked god to take lust from me. It’s been a great healing experience. I still find women attractive but I’m not listing over them. I hope u find peace n know Jesus loves you!!

I know it's easy to say this from the side lines, but a good argumentment that I learned is that no matter how and why that person ended up that way in Jesus Christ you will be made a new person, you will be reborn. A life where you will want to serve God and not yourself, it's really about going down on your knees and realizing that the only reason you're still here is because God wants you, His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. This counts for all sins and desires. Life on earth will be hell, but would you rather have God walking beside you in this fire or alone? We don't judge because we want to but because we want to help you, condoning any sinful behaviour is like tell God that His rules don't matter and that you're the righteous judge and not Him. Do you want to spare their feelings and see them burn in hell?

Romans 1:26 says same sex lust comes about from idolatry, the Church should not concede the 'born this way' notion, not even gay activists liked that argument in the beginning, it was beneath themselves as they saw their plight as a libertarian 'right to do whatever i want' thing. Its possible he was born same sex attracted. We are all under the yoke of original sin and sexuality is no different. Homosexuality can have biological and psychological components to it. To quote scripture at him doesn't really help him but praying for him for God's grace to live a chaste life is the key. He will always be same sex attracted. No therapy or other things even prayer will change that. Its easy to speak on someone elses behalf when the cross is not on your shoulders. Conversion of the heart is needed to see the benefits of a chaste life, otherwise it all just seems too hard, pointless and cruel if there is no light and motive to change. The heart must be moved. I dont need to be a religious nun to know that. Im a transsexual and was born or developed gender dysphoria so long ago. We all have to keep praying for God's mercy to be free from our sins. We need to pray and fast and when the temptations are strong to cast demons in Jesus' name. Repenting is powerful even if we have not committed a sin.

There are many theories about the “cause” of homosexuality in a person.
Many have heard about how a traumatic experience in early childhood can have this effect. Other theories include a response of the mother’s body towards the male fetus after already having given birth to other sons, causing a response against the testosterone of the baby which changes the development.
I don’t know if there *have* to be other outside factors, but I know that for myself it’s definitely no conscious decision to be attracted to someone. It’s something that happens. I would say one can certainly be *born* gay. And that will be part of the cross in one’s life which needs to be carried.
According to this, God's will is a reflection of one's own will. All religions emerge in that way.

Growing up, I thought that god loved me. That I can serve him in my way, without getting discriminated.
Now, as a grown up, I’ve been confronted with a lot of Christian who literally tell me and others like me that I will be tortured eternally. For something, that doesn’t cause even the slightest harm. For the consent love of two adults of the same sex.
That’s the point why it is very critical to compare this to real sin. Stealing, raping, killing others… these are all actions, that do cause harm. Where others get hurt. This aspect doesn’t even count at all for homosexual relationships. On the contrary!
There are two people who love each other, want to get intimate, share dreams, maybe want to build up a family etc. Of course, it can go wrong, but you don’t have the same negative view on a heterosexual marriage just because it can go wrong, right?
But apparently, the god of many Christians simply ignores this form of bonding. Instead of including non-celibate homosexuals, they are told to burn eternally and that this is something that is absolutely “Ok, because they didn’t want it another way”.
If Catholics are asked if there are second class human beings for god, most say: “No.”
That’s a clear sign of double standards.
This comment is not there to say that you are not allowed to have your opinion. Absolutely not. But please note that many homosexuals are depressed or even suicidal because they are indirectly forced into celibacy that they maybe don’t even want.

There are many Christians who have undergone a conscious change of their believe on same-sex-marriage. Moral agency is a factor for human nature. Alright. In this case, it makes even more sense to give the same rights to other human beings. You are someone who has realised that black people are not to be discriminated, because doing so causes more harm than good. Now, we can go one step ahead to recognise same sex couples as well.
There are different types of studies, and many of them actually show that there are indeed the same love factors in such relationships. But let’s say that for a certain amount it’s not. How unrighteous would it be to have this one size fits all approach to those who are indeed in same sex relations that do love one another the same way as heterosexuals?

Perfectly agree with you, I’m a catholic my self, but I can’t hide the anger I get when hearing this kind of sentences, with all due respect for this mother, she compared alcoholism with being gay. If I was the subject of the conversation I would have felt deeply offended. I am glad pope Francis has a much more open and understanding vision on this matter.

First off, alcoholism is a disease and doesn’t deserve comparison here. Secondly, the suicide rate is high among gays because they are not accepted or loved unconditionally…just as Christ would love. It has never been our place to judge. As St Mother Teresa said, if you are judging, you aren’t loving.

Homosexuality doesn't do anything to harm anyone, you aren't telling a murderer, a rapist, or any sort of objectively evil person to repent. You are telling someone to repent because they like the same sex, because some book told you (it doesn't actually explicitly state it is a sin) to. What Susan said about suicidal rates is extremely true and your sentiment spreads it.
I think, it is no sin to love ONE SINGLE PERSON for a lifetime, no matter if she or he is gay or hetero. It's a sin to have more than one (sexual) partner. Gay people have lots of them. That's a big sin against God and human.

Really? How would you know? I have been gay for my entire life and I never chose to be gay or "learned" it from anyone. If I could press a button and become straight I would. But I can't change the way I was made. Nobody can. God made people either gay or straight. Deal with it.

There are many gay Catholic priests who engage in sex, but they try to hide their sexual activities. Are these priests any less committed to Christ? Who came up with celibacy as a way for people to live? The Catholic Church did. It should be a choice.
