Interesting video. There’s a few more original mesh gate door Otis lifts I know that’s know of that you didn’t explore. There’s a lovely original one that’s still in use but slightly off limits in the Newcastle Discovery Museum. It’s staff only but I’ve personally sneaked in myself for a ride. It’s down near the archive rooms. Also in the stone abutment buildings on the Tyne Bridge there’s some. The north one was still in service up until roughly year 2000. There’s one on the Gateshead side but I doubt that’s ran for many many years. These lifts took people from the quayside to the rod deck level of the bridge. Would be great if you could explore these 👍
The kone M-series with ecodisc fixtures, an odd but nice combination. That 1980’s Otis at the end, that brings back some memories from the late 80’s / early 90’s for when I was little..... btw a lot of modern day movies are full of CGI or are remakes. Even worse, remakes of classic movies that use CGI where the orginal would have used practial effects. In 2012 Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop and Total Recall where remade but they are not as epic as his originals. Allthough I have recently watched the new Mission Impossible movie in the cinema. Thought it was OK at best.

No the motor is M-series (in a motor room). Ecodisks have a high pitch wine sound which cannot be heard in the video. The logic and motor haven't been replaced
I was getting up a full speed surf with no inspection no safety break (this means getting on top while the lift is serving a floor so that the lift does not know someone is on top). I do not advise anyone to copy my actions. This lift was not being used much so I had to set it up in a way allowing multiple opportunities to get off the lift. I can not risk using the inspection control as it has not been verified. I set it up to have 2 downwards rides then a few more to allow multiple opportunities to get off the lift if one failed (for example, someone was outside the lift). I set it up making sure I was in control of the situation, even if someone was to get in the lift and start pressing buttons I would still be in control, despite the fact I potentially could not control the lift from on top. The risks of doing this are that I might not be able to stop the lift in an emergency (this is only a risk when going up), that someone would hold the doors open and I would be stuck on top (this is bad if they see my torch light), or someone putting it on fire mode or priority service (very unlikely). I had to make sure I set up the lift to stop at multiple places (in case one went wrong) where I could get off the lift without controlling the lift. It is important to note where the double height floors are when I first went inside the lift. If the lift finished serving all calls at a position where I could not get out, or even worse, at the top of the shaft, I would be on top an unverified lift with every way of getting of potentially being dangerous. This lift had half floors. I though nothing could go wrong as loads of doors in easy reach. I was wrong. I could not reach the door of a full floor as it was too high, and the door of the half floor would be an awkward climb to get out. But luckily I had prepared for something to go wrong by pressing enough floors so that I had a second opportunity. The lift started moving downwards and I grabbed a roller, safety breaking the lift. A safety break using the roller (which can only be safely done when going downwards) is a better move than using the unverified inspection control at this point. Basicly, getting on top a lift without checking anything like this is very dangerous unless you have had a ton of experience and do it in a way where you know exactly what is going to happen.
Keep an eye on Waterstones gone from mrl’s to these slow cabin platform style lifts in one store at least. They’re dreadful, poor lighting, bad buttons, audio units that barely work. I’ve had to tell one branch I believe one lift needs work to be Disabiltiy compliant already just installed months ago.
