You don't actually have to get a REAL ID. It's not required. You can still get an ordinary driver's license. However, a regular driver's license won't be accepted as valid ID in airports. So, if you want to fly, you'll have to show a passport to even fly domestically, or get a REAL ID. For people who want to fly within the country, but don't have/want a passport, you'll need a REAL ID. But for driving itself, REAL ID isn't required or mandatory.
I tried to get it pre-COVID when I renewed my license, but DMV wouldn't accept my documentation; even though they renewed my "regular" license with no problem. I have a passport card, so I'm not at all worried.
Indeed 💯. As long you carry your ID or Driver License and USA Passport 🇺🇸 especially boarding on the plane for both domestic or international flight ✈️.

@@jonathangill6584 you don't have to get a real ID if you don't want. Your just going to need one in case you need to fly somewhere or enter a federal building. If you have a passport than don't worry about. Aren't people complaining about the ilegals flying well now they can't if they don't have a real ID or a valid passport. I'm guessing their doing this cause of all the states giving out driver license to undocumented people and they are being use to fly within the US. Theirs been news segment announcing this since covid not just in the airports.

That's what I said. I already have my USA 🇺🇸 Passport and I just renewed my NYS Driver's Lincense back in September 2023 one week before my Driver's license expired. Also I'm waiting to renewed my USA passport in 2028, so I still have 4 more years to renewed my passport and I will be 💯good 👍 if I ever travel again for both domestic and international flight ✈️. Plus I already have my TSA PreCheck membership since of May of 2023. I'm 👍 good just looking forward to renewed my passport and maybe signing up for Global Entry for traveling domestic or international.
Just go and get it. I got mine like 3 years ago when they were anouncing you needed one to fly and they just kept pushing the dateline back. Just take your birth certificate and soocial security.
If you have a record of unpaid child supports, unpaid parking tickets/Ezpass toll, or other police charges. You should never get DMV Real ID license except Passport.

Some people don't have/want passports. Some don't want to show a passport for flying WITHIN the US.

It proves your legal status in the U.S. and it’s much easier to carry than a passport. In New York State, you can also get an Enhanced Driver License.
An alternative to passport, as most people who travel domestically tend to use state ID/DL instead of passport.

You can travel internationally with an Enhanced Driver License.
