Fashion became my idol I had to literally give away so many clothes and stop buying more I still struggle and sometimes spend hours on online shopping sites or Pinterest starring at clothes I want to buy it’s tough please pray for me but I know that no shoe, bag or dress will ever be more beautiful or satisfying than Christ and it’s a sin I’m fighting in the power of Christ- whom the Son sets free is free in deed it’s just around the corner 🙏🏾
I was trying to look up if fashion is idolatry. I dont buy too much but I love to watch fashion shows and was thinking about studying fashion. I thought if I do it for his glory doesn't it matter who you are while creating this is so confusing because I live God
I idolised grades and it destroyed me when I didn't acheive what I wanted. I just thank God for doing this because I obsessed over them and attached my self-worth to grades . I coveted the grades of others but God has told me not to do so as their successes were based on hard-work mingled with herd mentality, bullying, slander, gossip and skipping classes for strategic puropses. It was hard to hear but in watching this video after what God said to me I am truly free and happy that the grades I acheived were by his grace and in the midst of low self-esteem and mild depression were actually a blessing.
I am struggling with this, my idol is entertainment. I am trying my best to get away from it. I am going to church, as much as i can, praying and reading my bible once everyday or once every other day at the least. God is leading me through it, amen
Mine is watching anime... God convicts me everyday and it just only today where i decided to stop it altogether. I may not be able to stop watching forever but atleast I could detach myself from it and gain more self control and discipline.
Amen, me too, my idol was kdrama, but I stopped watching it after God brought me out of backsliding for almost two months and realised that kdramas does not compare to God.

Behind the search for every idol lies the yearning for completion. To seek a special person or a thing to "add" to you to make yourself complete can only mean that you believe some form is missing, and by finding this, you will achieve completion in a form that you like. This is the purpose of an idol, that you will not look beyond it to the source of the belief that you are incomplete.

What's cool about this is that the the idols we put in front of God won't actually satisfy (look at the book of Ecc and your own life experience). So God wants what's best for us and commands us to not put idols in front of him because only in Him do we find real joy and peace.

Would racism be a form of idolatry, because it exalts one race over another instead of what God intends to love each other like siblings. Then if one race truly is set to a particular role in society, then why did God create us as free willed creatures?

I don't understand. I thought idolatry was loving something more than God. However, the pastor listed hobbies, sports teams, your job, music group that you're following, a nice lawn, etc. So is idolatry merely anything that we give enjoy and give our attention to other than the Almightly? Because if it's the latter, than it would seem like all Believers must live their lives like monks. Not, that's a bad thing.
The greatest idol is one of one's creation. They will always appear to be perfect and true. I’ve had the word Jealous speak from my mouth. My spirit lies about who my God is. yeah. you can make "being a Christian" an idol and you can make the Bible an idol which can both be bad. the only idol you should have is the persons of the Triune God
"Thing/Person loved more than God, craved more than God, ENJOYED more than God" I have a hard time understanding "The enjoyment" part since everything God created is good and He made it for the purpose of pleasure/enjoyment, but not to love it more than Him but rather acknowledge Him as the one who created these and deserves our deepest heart desires. But then a question arises. "Sex" for example is created for the purpose of good pleasure and I honestly think that most of us have pleasure in it more than God. In this case, is sex in itself a sin when we ENJOY it more than God cuz He Himself created it for the purpose of pleasure right?
Good question..first off your question assumes that everyone loves sex more than God which simply isnt true..especially if youve been married to the same person for a countless number of years then sex loses its appeal and excitement that it had compared to the first time. Most married couples are not having freaky sex all over the place everyday..lol Secondly, if sex takes precedence over God in your life then it has become an idol but the act of enjoying sex in itself is not bad.. for example if you choose to have sex outside of marriage then you are disobeying God in order to have sex which then would make it an idol... or if you were a married person but you were more interested in having sex with your wife then praying reading the Bible or doing the Lord's work then it would be obvious that sex was an idol to you.. The thing is people are not turned on by actually having sex they are more turned on buy all the things that lead up to sex..or the prospect of having sex..this is why sex with strangers or sex outside of marriage is such an exciting and addicting thing.. it's not the climax that people are really after... it is the ride that leads up to the climax..

Absolutely not, collecting items is a hobby, not idolatry. Idolatry is to have an extreme love and admiration for something or someone. In other words, idol worshipping is when you worship an image of a cult or a personal image of a person. This becomes dangerous when you love these things more than God. Now me, I am a fan of prince and Michael Jackson. I however do not worship them, nor do I make them my God. There's nothing wrong with loving something or someone because this is a natural feeling. We just have to learn how to balance the two.

Whoosh I played video games for years and countless hours never thinking about God! One night I had the urge to stop playing early and found myself almost incapable of putting down the controller. That's when I knew I had a video game addiction so I prayed to God to let his will be done so that I can be free from video game addiction. And Instantly I lost complete interest in gaming 100 to 0!
I spend before 5-7houer aday video games and 0-1min with God. Now I'm grounded from games and got addicted to humans. I want to be addicted to God and Jesus but I feel it's to boring. But I want to go to heaven because I don't like to suffer and hell is worst suffer ever, but I'm lazy and still not spend much time with God. I strugling with choosing right direction.
John Lennox had the same problem as you. He said in an interview that the biggest problem he had was that reading the bible was just boring. What helped him was being invited to a bible study group that took reading the Bible just as serious as he was with mathematics (or for you maybe video games?). This bible study session turned around his life because he learned that actual 'treasure' could be found in the Bible. I have been trying to start a brand because of my interest of clothing. But I have a fear of creating a idolatry for the brand.
I idolised grades and it destroyed me when I didn't acheive what I wanted. I just thank God for doing this because I obsessed over them and attached my self-worth to grades . I coveted the grades of others but God has told me not to do so as their successes were based on hard-work mingled with herd mentality, bullying, slander, gossip and skipping classes for strategic puropses. It was hard to hear but in watching this video after what God said to me I am truly free and happy that the grades I acheived were by his grace and in the midst of low self-esteem and mild depression were actually a blessing.

In this way do you grow in the act of Love.
What's cool about this is that the the idols we put in front of God won't actually satisfy (look at the book of Ecc and your own life experience). So God wants what's best for us and commands us to not put idols in front of him because only in Him do we find real joy and peace.

I have a hard time understanding "The enjoyment" part since everything God created is good and He made it for the purpose of pleasure/enjoyment, but not to love it more than Him but rather acknowledge Him as the one who created these and deserves our deepest heart desires.
But then a question arises. "Sex" for example is created for the purpose of good pleasure and I honestly think that most of us have pleasure in it more than God.

Good question..first off your question assumes that everyone loves sex more than God which simply isnt true..especially if youve been married to the same person for a countless number of years then sex loses its appeal and excitement that it had compared to the first time. Secondly, if sex takes precedence over God in your life then it has become an idol but the act of enjoying sex in itself is not bad.. for example if you choose to have sex outside of marriage then you are disobeying God in order to have sex which then would make it an idol... or if you were a married person but you were more interested in having sex with your wife then praying reading the Bible or doing the Lord's work then it would be obvious that sex was an idol to you..
The thing is people are not turned on by actually having sex they are more turned on buy all the things that lead up to sex..or the prospect of having sex..this is why sex with strangers or sex outside of marriage is such an exciting and addicting thing.. it's not the climax that people are really after... it is the ride that leads up to the climax..

John Lennox had the same problem as you. He said in an interview that the biggest problem he had was that reading the bible was just boring. What helped him was being invited to a bible study group that took reading the Bible just as serious as he was with mathematics (or for you maybe video games?). This bible study session turned around his life because he learned that actual 'treasure' could be found in the Bible. What strengthened his passion for Christ even more was sharing the 'treasures' he discovered in the Bible with others.

What I recommend to you: Go treasure hunting for answers to your deepest questions in the Bible. The truth is worth gold. NOW. HERE'S THE PROBLEM.
The most popular common
staple of american households currently is INDOOR animals. Theres Around 332 million people in the U.S. and over 240 million households in the U.S. and atleast 80 percent (192,000,000) have atleast one INDOOR animal. And growing.
They have made/created images of their INDOOR animals as their gods by leaning on them for ways they shouldn't.
Its THE THING.
Its thought as normal.
Its the new CANCER as its killing 80% of this country by damning their souls.
Its more deadly than any CANCER before. Because it keeps killing even after death.
So deadly we dont even have to believe in it or acknowledge it.
Believe it or not, in the 70s, indoor animals were a RARETY. I grew up in the 70s. I hardly knew there were animals at all in the big cities.
The mass covetness of indoor animals is really only about 35-40 years old.
So its a fairly new LUST on a MASS scale.

They are worshipping their self as their own god and facepalming God knowingly or unknowingly. NO EXCUSE. IDOLATRY
The ways of idolatry are infinite. But indoor animals are among the most popular way of idolatry.
REPENT
Confess ones sin to God through Jesus and turn from their wicked ways is all one has to do. Gods grace will always be there till our last breath.
Salvation is not a license to sin. Obedience is a must for Gods children.
Unrepentance is iniquity.
Repent daily.
This is not a campaign against any animal. Its not their fault.
Im raising awareness of IDOLATRY THROUGH INDOOR ANIMALS.
Why indoor animals? Because INDOOR ANIMALS are more likley to become idols than outdoor animals through living in close quarters with people.
Im not here to judge or condemn. Just to serve the Lord by raising awareness of these issues on this post.
The Holy Spirit has been my guide all through my studies.
