I think the "pet peeve" point is a very valid one. There are settings where you don't want to be seen as a "knife person". A bright yellow Victorinox is about the least threatening a knife can get.
I couldn't agree more on the more superior and effective can opener on Wenger compared to Victorinox'. While we don't use can opener much these days (sardines come in tins with easy open lid), the wenger can opener is useful for punching hole and opening packaging boxes.
I have an original wave and it is so much of a chunk that I just stopped carrying it unless I had a specific job that needed pliers. On the other hand as soon as I discovered SwissQlip makes a pocket clip for 91mm Victorinox I have been EDCing my Victorinox Explorer and haven't looked back. I do like my leatherman wave... but my day to day just doesn't require pliers very often at all.
i just got myself a gerber dime vecause i was putting together a general use kit to keep in my car. never felt the need of a multitool in my edc but omg the pliers. I've used them probably daily since i got it.
Hey David always watch your videos. I had a video idea . Something that I can’t seem to find anywhere. Would like to see a video on the best BUDGET titanium folders! If possible
My 1st pocket knife was a Swiss Army & I still have it today (30 yrs +) but I got a Leatherman Surge a few yrs ago and that thing is a beast of a multi tool! Definitely 10 times heavier but that’s what I carry in my backpack every day. Still love my Victorinox Hunter in the black scales and love that for my outdoor adventures
I recently switched to a Victorinox Camper and have been happy with the decision. It fits my needs better than my leatherman squirt which I have enjoyed for quite sometime. One thing I like about the camper is that the saw tip sticks out just enough to identify it by feel and the rest of the tools do not. It makes it easy it grab it and open the saw without looking. I cut quite a few tiny branches that grow into the middle of our wooded trails. It is great that the mini saw is functional and then I don’t need to carry some huge saw when 99% it is needed. Like you, I carry separate blade but lately seem to prefer small fixes blades around 3” or so.
My EDC is a Leatherman surge and out of the dozens of multi tools I've used this is my favorite so far. The made in the USA part definitely helps. My main blade though is a Buck Sprint Ops. Love it too
First a belated thank you for answering my most serious question in episode 98. I was so star struck when YOU David, read my question!! 😊 I have a feeling that you are going back to the Victorinox. If not, then I’m guessing that it will take residence in the key bowl by the front door, so that you can make an easy switch when going out in the woods. Back to my original question. I forgot to mention that, even though I drive an eleven year old Kia picanto, my car is operating key free. 😅 But, it probably still is the best choice of knife for cutting off the engine. 😂
As a school teacher, my tool of choice is my Leatherman Wave+ and a customized bit kit. Since I also have a full tool kit in my classroom, one of the things with my Wave+ is the bit extender to go from the Leatherman slot bit to a standard hex bit. My EDC carry is either my carbon handled AD20.5 or my Civiv Cogent. When I taught in Alaska this was augmented by a scout-carried Busse AD.
I carry the leatherman t-4 a lot. I did modify the pry bar to a chisel tip which helps when I am restoring furniture or doing woodwork and need a quick chiseling on something. but I also like the swiss army knife as well, so I go back and forth a bit.
Very interesting n informative comparison. Just bought a Leatherman tool knife. Ur comparison was detailed especially like ur invaluable personal comments on each individual usages. Kudos. New subscriber because of this upload. Anticipating ur next one. Aloha from Hawaii
Every time I’ve tried to “give up” my SAK, I never stick with it. Like you, I always have a SAK regardless of whatever else I’m carrying. Even if I’m doing stuff where I know I’ll be using my Wave or Swisstool Spirit, I still have a my trusty little SAK. I’m curious whether the T-4 will stick long term with you. I might rotate it in here and there, but I know me and I know I’ll always go back. My SAK ranger lives in my bag every single day. If I don’t have my bag, it’s a Climber or a Compact. I’ll rotate everything else, but not that.
The one hand opening of every tool, the locking of every tool, better blade steel, and arguably a better toolset has the T4 as the winner for me. I think you may implement the T4 as your edc after you carry it regularly!
I think the toolset is a big point and that is where Victorinox pulls ahead with their countless models. While a T4 easily can/could replace a S18 (or the Mountaineer which is probably the closest Vic model to the T4) it cannot replace a Cybertool. Pretty much the same problem as for the Boker CityTool (really great tools, with a great blade (IHMO best in this style of tools), but the absence of models always brings me back to Victorinox.
@@etherealicer It's mainly personal preference (as everyone knows) which is very subjective to each individual. It depends on what one prioritizes. I prioritize one-hand-open capability, so I'd instantly go Leatherman if forced to pick only one. Obviously one could carry both if they wanted both. My priority is always *SELF-DEFENSE comes FIRST above comfortable convenience.* Yes, even for a smaller blade as you see on that Leatherman, I want to be able to open it with one hand if a dog is munching on my other arm, just as one (of many) selfdefense situations one can find themselves in today. I carry a blade on each side for each hand. I am a prepper first, then after that the secondary convenience tools for fixing little things. I've been in my fair share (though rare in between) selfdefense situations, and I learn from them. I was at a STOP sign on my mountain bike once and someone's pitbull got loose, ran at me barking, I sat still and watched as the dog ran up to me, barked a few times, saw that I wasn't budging, then he ran back to his owner (who was yelling at him). That is a situation you want to learn from. Thankfully the dog was not your stereotypical abused, aggressive pitbull, but they're out there, and you want to be ready if one ever latches onto your arm. So, in that case, two blades on me, one on each side. I have pepper spray as well, but not that great if it's already munching on my arm. 🤔🤣 Anyway, I hope everyone out there starts to think and thus prepare more defensively, not so complacently. 👍
@@Northanteus I'm not complacent, I just have enough training with knives to know I don't want to use it to fight (and I prefer grappling, more effective at neutralizing a threat). That said, the escalation of violence is part of the reason people feel so unsafe. Call me a liberal/socialist, but helping people so they don't take drugs (e.g. a working healthcare system, so people don't get addicted to painkillers) seems like a much better approach than to declare war on drugs.
I have a victorinox super or delux thinkerer, idk. What I love about it is that it's a little bit bigger than most victorinoxes and it has some small pliers that come very useful but don't make the tool bulky like leather-mans. The perfect multitool for me would be this with a saw and a locking blade.
I've carried the Huntsman SAK as my EDC for years. My wife just got me the Free T4 and I have carried it for a month now. It maybe my new EDC. I have several SAK knives, but this T4 seems to hit my need... one thing I really like is the pocket clip... the thing I miss is probably the toothpick, I actually use it from time to time. great review.
Hi guys,I carry my free p4 daily, and I find it very helpful to have a array of tools to use.i find myself useing the scissors more than anything.keep up the good work
The Leatherman T4 is very nice modern interpretation but it is about 30% heavier than the Wenger/VIctorinox S18. Although useful, the contoured grips of the S18 add considerable width to the knife and something like the slightly longer and less expensive Fieldmaster will give you close the same implements as the S18 yet in a narrower width. Alternatively, if you like the length of the S18, something like the Tinker Small will fit into your watch pocket at a fraction of the weight, size, and cost of the others and you will likely not need a pouch. Looking forward to your exploration.
I carry an evogrip S11 pretty much daily. Its basically a fancy Tinker model. I also have a Leatherman Wave+ in my EDC bag. Theyre both great for very different reasons
I carry a LM Wave as my primary multi-tool, but I back it up with a Vic. I used to carry the Evo Grip S-13 which also has the locking blade, but I got annoyed with the lock catching in my pocket, so I recently acquired a Fieldmaster. The Fieldmaster is, IMO one of the best pocket-friendly SAKs you could own, with the most tools with a still reasonable size and weight. Then, of course, I have knives on me, but that's another story...
When someone starts to talk about edc, I take it with a grain of salt, they normally looks like it just came out of a new box. Nice to David's knife had some wear & tear on it, 1:58. I have carried a P-38 (can opener for c-rats) since 1985. I do use it. My wife will spend $40 on a fancy electric can opener that will work for about two months. I also carry a Leatherman wave for the last 20 years.
I am much like David - I don't even know how old my Swiss Army knife is but I have bought similar styled Swiss A rmy knives for my kids. Primarily I want the scissors and can opener for camping and such. I've never explored Leatherman much as the pliers (& weight) and one hand opening have never been that important for that type of tool. Pricing is also typically better for the Victorinox that I would chose to use/buy.
I carried a Victorinox for years, then started carrying the Leatherman Wave, which I loved as it had everything, but was just too bulky. I then went with a lightweight folder with a small Leatherman. I found I didn’t use the pliers much on any Leathermans, so I got the T4 Free and carry it now as my only knife as the knife is heavy enough for most tasks. If I need a bigger knife now, I just carry a camp knife, but that’s not an EDC for me. The T4 Free is small enough to carry comfortably in a pocket (I don’t like belt holders), and is very useful, and is my favourite. I only carry my wave, when a task requires it such as fixing a fence wire or something like that.
Wang Dang Poontang DCA.! Will return in 2 months to see your review on the Leatherman. Got one heavily mod that would be as reliable as the SAK, it's more of a compact survival tool now but still has its functions as an EDC pocket utility gadget considering that ours has a laser pointer. Cheers DCA & Thomas. Warm greetings from Australia.
Mr. Andersen, you've got me looking cross-eyed at the T4 now. I've been carrying a Victorinox Ranger, almost exclusively, as my EDC multitool. One of the main reasons I love it so much is that it has a serious file - nails, wood, metal, whatever - Honey Badger don't care. The file on the T4 is smaller than that, but has some of that robust capability. Also, the biggest down side to the Ranger, in my view, is that it doesn't have a Phillips head screwdriver. Lo and behold, the T4 does. Yeah, I think I need to check this out.
I'm so ready for the 100th FAQ ! My question is : would you please open a storefront or even just a wharehouse in France, in Champagne-Ardennes ? I'll reward the staff with Champagne !
I second this! It would be nice to have you represented in the EU! Until then I will have to make do with one of the major knife stores, that has an EU branch.
@@bokusimondesu And we'd have access to exclusives. I speak more as a Spyderco aficionado and even if I could pay a ton of shipping fees and customs fees to get an exclusive model, the EU market deserves some exclusives too
I have several Leatherman Multitools. I carry my original PSTll the most. I'm interested in one with a wood saw next. I love this channel! Thanks for sharing this video with us!
I have and use the Leatherman Wave, which is solid and does the job. That said, I also have a Tactiman 8-1 multi-tool that has a wood saw, serrated blade, and a straight blade, among other tools, and all work well. I might also add that the scissors implementation on the Tactiman is the best, most robust version I've seen on a multi-tool. In my experience with the scissors in Victorinox models for example, the tiny, thin wire "spring" often warps or breaks off entirely, rendering the use of the scissors problematic.
Going to be looking out for a decent knife or multitool for my boss. As he is our resident electrician, do you have any suggestions for an electrician's knife or similar oriented multi tool? Thanks in advance for thoughts or comments. Price isn't an issue for me.
Interesting perspective of your reasons for carry. A fair assessment of the T4 comparison to your S18. I have ignored the Free series as my Rebar (s) serve my requirements. Plus plier options. Good presentation !!!
Been carrying the Leatherman Wingman as my EDC for probably 5-7 years now. I've had to use every tool on that multitool. Blister pack cutter is my favorite tool on it. My one and only complaint is it comes with a combo blade...i only wish it had the full blade of the Leatherman Sidekick, its more outdoorsy twin.
You have helped me out in choosing to Leatherman over the Victronox .I love both knives like you but the Leatherman locks all tools. Thank you very much
Bought a free p2 to give leatherman a shot but my SAK always finds its way back into my pocket. Evo s18 is perfect for my life. I did like having a sturdy pair of pliers but they rarely saw use, both brands are great
When I first began looking at Victorinox Swiss Army Knives I quickly realised that the Swiss Champ was the most versatile, having the most tools whilst still being a comfortable size to carry and use. After 47 years of EDC my Swiss Champ, I can say with confidence that it was the best decision I made. I added a Leatherman Pocket Tool, which I quite liked, but for which I was offered a new, boxed, Leatherman Super Tool as as a straight swap! So, bye, bye Pocket Tool and hello Super Tool! I added a Leatherman Crunch and a Micra too, but eventually reverted back to carrying just my Swiss Champ as that was my most used tool, and it remains so. The Swiss Champ meets my usage requirements perfectly and it continues to be immensely versatile for such a compact multitool.
Leatherman comment: I bought my first Leatherman in the 1980’s. It went with me into the military. It served time in my tackle box. It spent years on my workbench in my un-air conditioned garage and eventually, the utility drawer of the house I currently I have in my mid 50’s. It still looks and functions as NEW other than the knife being sharpened a few times over the years. It’s beautiful. When I bought a new truck, I decided to put a Leatherman in the glovebox. I went premium and got a Leatherman Charge+ TTi Titanium. It stayed unused in the glovebox for 8 months. The first time I used it, there was rust on one of the tools. This does not look like it will have the longevity of my first Leatherman. Maybe it’s time to look at other brands.
I have four Leathermen two large and two small. I carried the Micra for years in my fifth pocket. I never carry the large ones. Too heavy. I carry one of five Victorinox every day. They are more user friendly end feel better in hand. Great video.
just bought the Compact for work earlier this year after lugging a Swiss Champ around for a couple months. it is simply perfect for my needs. the only tools that doesn't see much use are the corkscrew and the little pin. also got the Key Smart pocket clip attached to the keyring, very neat! Still, i'm also curious to see David follow up on this.
I have both (albeit the non-locking version of the Victorinox). The Leatherman is for daily carry due to it’s one hand opening and locking. The Victorinox is for travel as it doesn’t look threatening and a locking blade is forbidden in many countries.
I’ve Carried my Victorinox Climber for many years. Has corkscrew and Philips head. Very rarely use the blade as I also EDC a Para 2 or Bugout for actual knife stuff.
Hi. I have both knives. In terms of practical use, free T4 is better because I can fold and unfold a tool with one hand. I have to mention that blade of free T4 is very sharp. My that yellow Victorinox fell from 1 meter height ant there was a small crack in the plastic cover of knife.
Thanks for the videos. Keep them rolling. I have a pile of Swiss army knives. I'm going to give that t4 letherman a try. I really don't need any more knives or multi tools. What I really need is a psychiatrist. Thanks again.
DCA: When my first dog passed, I got a knife in her namesake (Real Steel Luna, as she was named Luna). Your staff drew me some wonderful dog pictures with my order as well. We just had to put down our other old dog, Navi, and I'm wondering what knife to get to commemorate him as well? Thanks in advance.
Buckle up, Daniel, I'm afraid you're going to have to buy a watch this time, and a Navitimer is a pretty pricey piece. Sorry about your old pal Navi. I bet he had a great life with you.
@@willblake72 he had been cross country, smelled all the smells, and spent the last 3 years on our horse farm living the life. Couldn't have asked for better. Thanks.
A recent fan and a novice within the hobby. But an eternal enthusiast since my childhood. I’m looking for a multi-tool combo recommendation. A SAK & Leatherman (Pliers style). The SAK will becoming an EDC. It can have the corkscrew don’t want it to have a ‘full’ Phillips head driver, due to having the other multi tool. The pliers multitool will be more work focused. Sliding them into my pocket when I leave to work and then most likely (80% of the time) sitting on my dresser the rest of the time. They won’t need to have a blade due to the fact I carry a folding knife and then the SAK as well. If you can keep the combo price hovering $200 will be lovely.
victorinox. my favorite. pocket knife or multitool, for me the quality, toughness and durability exceeds the leathermans. still love my wave, though ...and totally forgot, I love what you're doing. Keep it up!
I've EDC'd the S.A. super tinker for decades, didn't even know about the 18, locking blade would have made it for me. But I may try the leatherman. Thx
I also have carried a Swiss for years as my primary and as a secondary every where from an office setting to Iraq to hunting and camping to working as a lineman. Saying that I also carried and still carry a leatherman on a my belt. Both are great tools made by great companies and I am partial to my Swiss but both are equal in my eyes.
Like you my long time go to is the Evogrip (s17 or s18) which are Kings... the T4 was so uncomfortable to hold and manipulate I never managed to actually use it and cast it to the dungeon.
Hi DCA, interesting that there in the US these knives has basically same price, here in Italy you can get the Vic for 50-52 euro, while the Leatherman will be almost 90 euro... With this difference is a clear win for the Victorinox for me, though the Leatherman is certainly a great tool. Anxious to see in 2 months what will be your conclusion........ Cheers!
Love my S18. I do have a skeletool Leatherman which I like as well, but I just enjoy the Victorinox. I like that is is smooth and curved in the pocket. I don't use a clip for these things, just stick in pants or jacket pocket.
I carry the Victorinox Huntsman pocket knife and the Victorinox Swiss Tool X Plus Ratchet multitool every day. I love them, won't leave home without them. JT
I used to carry a SAK Tinker. When the pliers got added to the Tinker to make the Super Tinker, I swapped out the Tinker. The pliers are nice on the ST. But they’re not that useful. I considered them to be tweezers on steroids. When the Leatherman Juice was introduced, I went with it because I liked the pliers better. I now carry a Leatherman T4. It suits my needs better. I like having a file in my pocket. Something the Juice and the Tinkers never had. For a multitool, I carry an older Victorinox SwissTool. They’re solid and great quality.
DCA need a judgement call here. I cannot freehand sharpen, I've tried for years and accept my limitations. Right now I'm using a Lansky Deluxe system and wondering what I should pick as an upgrade option. It needs to be proficient at EDC folders, kitchen knives, and medium fixed blades
I have a Civivi Elementum that I love. love. love. I actually bought two and combined them so I could get the D2 satin blade with gray micarta scales. If I were to upgrade to something with better steel, but the same aesthetic and also sticking with micarta, what should I consider?
I live in a tropical/coastal area and with all the moisture, salt, and sand I feel like most outdoor knife tasks come with some risk. Can you recommend some hard use knives that would thrive in such an environment?
I carry a Leatherman Wave in a pouch. Have a Leatherman Super Tool leather pouch I carry next to it. In which fits my EDC pistol (either Sig 365XL or CZ P10C) magazine. Got in a habit of a Gerber multitool and Leatherman in the military, so two pouches is not an issue. The pouch also looks less like a regular mag pouch so eyebrows do not raise.
I have 4 x different SAK's & choose one to carry according to need. Like DCA I carry the SAK as a supplement to my EDC knives. For me the smaller & lighter SAK is the go. Also like DCA mentioned, I like the fact that no one looks twice at an SAK. (Except airport security when I accidentally tried to go through with a small SAK in my briefcase - you'd swear I was trying to steal a nuke - I still walk with a limp as a result 😬.) If looking for harder use Leatherman is a good option. Good luck making the choice.
Heya DCA, need some advice. I have a mini griptilian that is too small for my comfort, as i have Large to XL hands. I do love the crossbar style lock, but would be willing to look into any finger safe closing method. Id also like something that i can eventually upgrade the scales to something more premium than black plastic. Any suggestions?
I carry a Victorinox hiker and it has almost the same tools as the Evo except the scissors....its smaller easier to carry and it only cost me $20....very good value for the $$$
Have you done any videos on ULUs? Are traditional shape better than modified? Is there a pocket option for an ULU besides the 'pocket ULU' that only has a 1.5in blade and can't chop?
For us who don't use a belt pouch, and use only their pockets, one of the most important factors is the weight of multi-tool. And, even if you didn't mention that in the video, it seems to me that the SAK is a bit more practical in such regard.
I have chosen the t4 over Victorinox because of the following: All locking tools In-line Philips and scissors in a usable overall tool set (compared to Explorer or Swiss champ) Pocket clip One hand operation for all tools ( no more fingernails breaking) Still love SAK quality and lifetime warranty
Hello Thomas and David, I would like both of your choices to replace my sogfari kukri. Looking for one without a saw spine and stronger steel. I'm tired of of the blade chipping away when chopping through branches. Thanx
Greetings DCA, I'm a fan of both SAK and Leatherman. I edc both of for work. One thing that the T4 is missing for my needs is a saw. I have found having a saw for cutting rope has save the edge on my knife for other tasks...
Hey Knife center narrators. I just bought a magnacut Hogue Deka. Unfortunately they come with plastic handles. Do you know where I could score some more premium handle scales, aftermarket? Thanks.
Hey DCA: Why have partial serrations on a knife? As in what’s the point with it? (heh get it?…………..i didn’t think so either) Wouldn’t it just me more effective and go all out with a fully serrated blade?
Love victorinox without a doubt but since picking up the T4 I do prefer it, it’s a bit more work like ! And it’s indestructible ! Also like the K2 as a primary EDC, great blade and a few useful tools, the K4 however being just a little too thick to my way of thinking. Having said that most days my primary tool is the ARC or Charge + TTI both of which to me are at the top of the game. The Charge does feel possibly a little outdated by the ARC but the serrated blade goes someway in justifying its value as an EDC to me, I may in true very slightly prefer the Charge ?
I’m in this conundrum right now. I started a new job that has essentially zero tools available. I honestly want to throw my bulky multi tool on the belt to give me options, but like you said…. No one bats an eye at classic Swiss 😄
Hello DCA, I saw that Boker did a really cool thing, they made damascus knives forged with steels from Sherman and Tiger tanks and other historic weapons. What are the knives that they did this with? Do any other knife companies do this? Thank you.
I carry a skeletool cx with that 154cm blade + victorinox rambler. Add the flashlight and fixed blade (tops CUT 4.0) and you have an all encompassing urban EDC in non European world. When I travel to EU, I drop the Leatherman and carry a Victorinox pioneer. And the fixed blade also generally stays at home or is reserved for outdoors. Especially if you have a travelling job, victorinox is far more easier to explain worldwide
Skeletool CX and a Farmer. And I live in Europe. If I carry the Leatherman outside the house, I need a good reason for doing so. "It might come in useful" won't cut it. That CUT 4.0 is a nice knife. I've no idea how I'd missed that one.
I have a SAK and a Leatherman Signal sat side by side in a little pot on my kitchen counter. I use them all the time...sometimes both at once (Leatherman to hold SAK to cut). If I had to choose I'd take the Leatherman...but I'm not allowed to carry it as an EDC in the UK due to the locking blade. The plastic scales of the SAK's make them very 'acceptable'...people see you as a boy scout not a terrorist!! 😆👍🏻 My wife had to go to the House Of Lords recently and took a handbag she'd not used for a year..when she went through security, the X-ray machine found her Leatherman micra...which was promptly confiscated for the duration of her visit. 😳 She was rather red faced (though pleased she'd found her Leatherman). She wondered if a mini SAK would have garnered quite the same reaction?🤔
Are there any non locking folding knives that have the option to be locked with a separate pin or something like that? (For example the KC exclusive artisan cutlery archeo)
For as long as you both have been making knife content, do you feel it has slowed or increased you knife purchases? Seeing all the knife options, has it made you a knife snob or do you still find budget knives appealing? Thank you for the work you all do.
To find out which one DCA picked in the end, go here: ua-cam.com/video/KPDCsBlOrMM/v-deo.html
Always the friendliest reviews in the knife/EDC world and appreciated in these modern times. Thank you!
I think the "pet peeve" point is a very valid one. There are settings where you don't want to be seen as a "knife person". A bright yellow Victorinox is about the least threatening a knife can get.
Might also help if you drop it (though silver ain't bad either (except in stone/snow).
I think generally speaking, swiss army knives are more "acceptable" no matter what model?
You "knife people" are the problem in the world today.😜!
Who cares?? If someone is offended by whatever knife I pull out as its their issue not mine..screw them..
I couldn't agree more on the more superior and effective can opener on Wenger compared to Victorinox'. While we don't use can opener much these days (sardines come in tins with easy open lid), the wenger can opener is useful for punching hole and opening packaging boxes.
I recently started carrying a wave+ along with my edc and I never knew that I would use a multitool so much. Gotta have the pliers.
I agree. I use a wave+ too and the pliers are sooo good to have. That was the reason I bought it, and I can't think of not having then now.

Hello David. Super interesting videos. Thank you!
Cheers Felix, thank you sir! -DCA
I have tried to find something to replace it (out of curiosity) multiple times. I cannot find anything. It all brings me back to my SAK.
Anyway, I hope everyone out there starts to think and thus prepare more defensively, not so complacently.
I have had both brands my entire life and over time I have ended up using the leatherman a lot more.🤠
14 years DCA? You're goin straight back to the Swiss Army. No question imho. Solid Video as always!
Both are excellent. I love my SAK’s but I own and love the T4. I got it in “lunar” color. Looks gorgeous.
Does the color wear off the T4? I wanna order one, but if the color wears off, I'd rather go with the regular steel color.
@@jdoubleu3510 it hasn’t yet, except for a tiny chip on edge.
Hi guys,I carry my free p4 daily, and I find it very helpful to have a array of tools to use.i find myself useing the scissors more than anything.keep up the good work
One thing that draws me to victorinox is the quality of the blades and tools; particularly the scissors!
Looking forward to your exploration.
victorinox explorer is my go to..
I carry an evogrip S11 pretty much daily. Its basically a fancy Tinker model. I also have a Leatherman Wave+ in my EDC bag. Theyre both great for very different reasons
Please show the horizontal belt pouch. So curious how that looks/works. Also, if it or something similar is available for purchase.
The Fieldmaster is a good combination of a camping knife and an EDC knife.
I’m 52. I’ve had a Swiss Army Knife since cub scouts. I have the one on this that you carry, and I think I will stick with it.
I'll reward the staff with Champagne !
they're already committed to Hamburg
I second this! It would be nice to have you represented in the EU! Until then I will have to make do with one of the major knife stores, that has an EU branch.
@@jimcarlson6157 they are opening in Hamburg?
@@jimcarlson6157 If it's happening, that's close enough from me 😆
@@bokusimondesu And we'd have access to exclusives.
Hello, where can I get a magnesium stick instead of the toothpick at 5:12?
Leatherman comment:
I bought my first Leatherman in the 1980’s.
I've carried a Compact for years, mostly for the scissors and blade. Interested in hearing about your experience with the Leatherman.
just bought the Compact for work earlier this year after lugging a Swiss Champ around for a couple months. it is simply perfect for my needs. the only tools that doesn't see much use are the corkscrew and the little pin.
also got the Key Smart pocket clip attached to the keyring, very neat!
Great comparison! These are my two favourite multi-tool companies! I would be hard-pressed to choose between the two you just reviewed.
Thanks.
I loved this story about the staff drawing picture for you. This made my week!!! Great people there, glad I buy from them!
I’m sorry for your loss.
Just buy a Lincoln Navigator.
If you can keep the combo price hovering $200 will be lovely.
victorinox. my favorite. pocket knife or multitool, for me the quality, toughness and durability exceeds the leathermans. still love my wave, though
...and totally forgot, I love what you're doing. Keep it up!
I've EDC'd the S.A. super tinker for decades, didn't even know about the 18, locking blade would have made it for me. But I may try the leatherman. Thx
I own all of those knives, and love each of them. I mix which one I carry depending on what I plan on doing that day.
Could you do an episode on horizontal carry, cross draw, and scout carry fixed blade knives for edc? Thank you!
I carry a Victorinox hiker and it has almost the same tools as the Evo except the scissors....its smaller easier to carry and it only cost me $20....very good value for the $$$
Hey DCA I have the work sharp precision adjust and recently bought a rajah 2 how do I sharpen a recurve with this sharpener system
Have you done any videos on ULUs? Are traditional shape better than modified? Is there a pocket option for an ULU besides the 'pocket ULU' that only has a 1.5in blade and can't chop?
A big benefit that wasn't brought up here. The leatherman has a bit kit adaptor that you can use. Which gives it a lot more options than a sak.
For us who don't use a belt pouch, and use only their pockets, one of the most important factors is the weight of multi-tool. And, even if you didn't mention that in the video, it seems to me that the SAK is a bit more practical in such regard.
SAKs have always been more economical than Leatherman, by weight and price. The price to quality ratio is unbeatable.
Couldn’t agree more, enjoyed my leatherman but my SAKs are way more comfortable to carry
I have chosen the t4 over Victorinox because of the following:
All locking tools
In-line Philips and scissors in a usable overall tool set (compared to Explorer or Swiss champ)
Pocket clip
One hand operation for all tools ( no more fingernails breaking)
Still love SAK quality and lifetime warranty
Hello Thomas and David, I would like both of your choices to replace my sogfari kukri. Looking for one without a saw spine and stronger steel. I'm tired of of the blade chipping away when chopping through branches. Thanx
Greetings DCA, I'm a fan of both SAK and Leatherman. I edc both of for work. One thing that the T4 is missing for my needs is a saw. I have found having a saw for cutting rope has save the edge on my knife for other tasks...
If I need: screw bits, short though knife, everything INOX..
what do you suggest?
I love my leatherman charge, but also love my SAK. In a lot of versus situations I can't decide and buy both.
Gday DCA! Great review. I’ll stick with my SAK as an EDC!
Hello I think it has been asked but is there a figet friendly knife that uses utility blade?
Love victorinox without a doubt but since picking up the T4 I do prefer it, it’s a bit more work like ! And it’s indestructible ! Also like the K2 as a primary EDC, great blade and a few useful tools, the K4 however being just a little too thick to my way of thinking. Having said that most days my primary tool is the ARC or Charge + TTI both of which to me are at the top of the game. The Charge does feel possibly a little outdated by the ARC but the serrated blade goes someway in justifying its value as an EDC to me, I may in true very slightly prefer the Charge ?
My edc is The British Army Clasp Knife, and my Victoriaknox Swisstool, the first model from the 90s I think.
Thank you.
How do i sharpen my ''First swiss army knife X'' and is it any difrent than a normal vlade?
Off topic question. Can you actually dull a knife when stropping it?
My wife had to go to the House Of Lords recently and took a handbag she'd not used for a year..when she went through security, the X-ray machine found her Leatherman micra...which was promptly confiscated for the duration of her visit. 😳
She was rather red faced (though pleased she'd found her Leatherman). She wondered if a mini SAK would have garnered quite the same reaction?🤔
It doesn't matter what else I carry, I always try to have some kind of SAC with me, so I think you'll eventually go back to your s18.
Are there any non locking folding knives that have the option to be locked with a separate pin or something like that? (For example the KC exclusive artisan cutlery archeo)
What's the best Letherman equivalent/replacement for Victorinox Cybertool?
Why is the T4 so thick?
I have a good question, what would be the perfect roofers knife?
99 1/2.......killing me DCA. Been waiting for the big hundo since last Saturday......the anticipation is palpable. As always great content!
Howdy Knife Center i just got a new job and want to get a little more pricy knife but I’m wondering what company’s have the best warranty?
I've been looking for an EDC under $200 that has a full flat grind recurved clip point. What's out there?
For as long as you both have been making knife content, do you feel it has slowed or increased you knife purchases?
Seeing all the knife options, has it made you a knife snob or do you still find budget knives appealing?
Thank you for the work you all do.
I think the lack of saw on the leatherman might sway me toward the SAK, but I've carried the wave+ for years.
Does the locking mechanism get in the way of gripping the knife. Seems like it would be right where your index finger goes.
Surprisingly it does not. Sits right between the first two fingers for me -DCA
