Sad to see this happening to Freddy as well, but he hasn't stopped yet. I remember when he used to get hundreds of thousands of views on tf2 content then he posts VR content and gets nowhere near that number, but at the same time people only clicked on his videos because it had the words [TF2 Jailbreak] on them, and maybe you could play some pavlov TTT it's very popular in pavlov and fun. The pavlov jailbreak servers are always full and I'd like more variety from just jailbreak in general, so I wanna see some TTT content from you, one of my favorite youtubers, Good luck Freddy I wish you well.

I do not mind variety content... It's more of as long you are able to add TF2 content every now and then. Although would be cool to see a minecraft server that was managed by all TF2 UA-camrs of both past and present (unless they died, then big F with mentions to their efforts in the TF2 community) that anyone with and without the game can join.

As the weapons academy guy, I knew the variety videos obviously weren't going to pull in TF2 video numbers. What disappointed me was the sheer extent of how badly they underperformed. The average Bad Weapon Academy video gets around 100,000-200,000 views, and these got around 2,000. I've seen this pattern over and over again where someone quits TF2 or making TF2 content after doing that pretty much exclusively, and then views bomb. Rydercycle, Zenomite, just off the top of my head. People like to point to Ster and Muselk as examples, but honestly their videos still pulled/pull in hundreds of thousands of views. They're not a best-case-scenario Jerma or RTGame situation where they smoothly transitioned to pure variety content, but honestly, it could be a lot worse. I saw those former examples and thought "I need to establish myself as having some variety content sooner rather than later, because once I get burnt out on TF2 videos, even if it's just temporarily, I'm going to need a new game plan." I knew exactly how bad of a honeypot TF2 content was, and I wanted to account for that.
So, in trying this, I made two videos recently, a Doom 2016 one and the Pokemon Storm Silver Nuzlocke one that the whole rant post was born from. I worked substantially harder on the Doom video than most other videos on my channel up until that point due to technical issues, but even then I knew it wouldn't get that many views for the simple fact that it was over an hour long, and that's a lot for some people to handle. Knowing this, I held a poll asking if my viewers would prefer the Nuzlocke to be split into parts, and the majority voted that it should, and I accommodated that. The poll got 7,000+ votes, so I thought that was at least the amount of people interested in the series, only for it to begin stagnating at around 2,500 views.
I naturally got frustrated and made my rant/bitching session seen in this video. Turns out though, most of my viewers had no idea the video existed, and since making that post, the view count around doubled. Still not what I hoped for, but it brought an issue to light. UA-cam was not putting the video in people's recommendations, not putting it in people's sub boxes, and in some cases even unsubscribing people from my channel. Most of my Bad Weapon Academy viewers are not subscribed, which I don't have much issue with, I watch plenty of channels solely through recommendations, but UA-cam didn't put my videos in their feeds, even if it's something that viewer might be interested in. I had one commenter say that Doom was one of their favorite games and they had no idea I had a video on it. So now really, I'm just pissed at UA-cam for pushing me to only make content that makes money and forcing me into this box by sabotaging the reach of my other videos, and not even putting them in the feeds of a new audience who might appreciate them. So any TF2 content creators, or really anyone who specializes in one game really needs to take note of that.
On the whole, the people who did end up watching my variety videos were very positive and had good things to say, and I'm appreciative of them. When I made my post, some people said that they saw the video in their feed, but just had no interest as they didn't care for Pokemon or Nuzlockes, and I can't fault them for that. Others said that they are by no means obligated to watch my content if it's something they didn't subscribe for, and they are also correct, but what irritates me is when people who were interested get snubbed for no good reason. I've thought of some solutions to the problems that UA-cam is now causing for me so that the people who are interested will have an easier time. I could start asking for people to subscribe which I've never done before because I think it's annoying, I could put my logo in my thumbnails so people know it's me immediately, and I can start posting my variety videos in the community tab so that more people are more likely to see them. I may even go Joey's route and make a video talking about it as I think that would promote discussion in a healthier way than me simply venting on the community tab, and allow me to get my feelings out on the subject in a more thought-out way.
I guess this was a very long winded way of saying UA-cam is brutal and shows no mercy to people trying something new. That's not going to stop me from doing new things or continuing what I've been doing because those couple thousand people who do like the different stuff I make would be disappointed, and even beyond that, the videos are a breath of fresh air that I've been sorely needing for a while now. I'm glad it's something more people are talking about in depth because it's been an issue with this game's UA-cam community for years now that's left more creators with a sour attitude on the game and its community than I'd like because it really doesn't deserve that. It's been through enough.

Generally I would agree with you, however, fans of a youtuber are not obligated to like all the content that youtuber puts out.
Example; someone subs to a tf2uber for medic content, that person stops making medic content eventually. The fan isn't obligated to stick around if he subbed for content that is no longer going to be on that channel.
If you are a youtuber that has a niche audience, you shouldn't be surprised when a video outside that niche doesn't perform well. Yes it can be frustrating, but if you know that the majority of your audience exists due to niche content, you shouldn't be baffled that content outside that area will be less popular.
This is the main issue with switching to variety content. Unless a good chunk of your fanbase is sticking around not for your content but for your personality, then you will lose a lot of interest from your main viewership, that's just a matter of changing what you do. A lot of youtubers who switch to variety content end up hating their original audience for not watching the new stuff they put out and call them not loyal or some crap. This creates even more of a disconnect between the original fanbase and the youtuber. I'd love to see some tf2ubers switch to variety, but some need to realize that no fans of them have any sort of obligation to watch the content they are not interested in.

Coffee cheetos chicken is a shitty joke and for some reason it’s still very funny for no reason. I think star is a better content creator but jerma is a better entertainer, I never watched star basically series because it wasn’t tf2. It's funny when channels that are popular because of their niche think they'll do well with something else due to their wonderful "personality" then get checked by the logical UA-cam algorithm.
I get it, I've been there. Most of the times I see this happen though, the UA-camr changes the niche and content type AT THE SAME TIME. If people watch your videos for guides, what makes you suddenly think hopping to an entirely different game and doing let's plays would work well? More often than not people straight up swap to like vlogging or something random though which is absolutely insane to me.
Make the same type of content as you swap niches and the success rate goes way up.

In a nutshell, it's about people who like tf2 VS people that like the youtuber as a person. Lots of tf2tuber's videos I've watched I only watched because I like tf2 and their likes, dislikes, personality etc don't really matter to me. If that kind of youtuber does other content I won't watch it unless I also happen to like game/content they posted. There's a few tf2tubers I'd definitely consider watching if they did different content like lazy purple and uncle dane. You seem kinda fun freddy from your jailbreak videos but I think you're right in thinking that showing yourself more (likes, dislikes, thoughts and interests, etc.) would benefit the channel. I feel like I could become more interested in you as a person and as such watch your other content.
One more thing about tf2 vs tuber is that the clickthrough rate of subs is gonna be much higher on tf2 videos because if you only post tf2 content that's the one thing that people on this channel share a common interest in and as such it gets recommended to your subs more often. If people are also interested in the creator then the clickthrough rate on other videos will also be high meaning the non-tf2 content will get recommended to your subs and new viewers more often.
The sad truth that nobody wants to hear is that a lot of tf2tubers fans don't like them for themself they mainly like tf2, not the creator. So unless a creator gets the viewers interested in themself the viewers will not follow them to other content. There's thousands of variety channels out there and despite the size of the tf2 fanbase the amount of tf2tubers that post content regularly is kind of limited which is why despite the fact someone might not care for the creator as much they will watch their tf2 content. When you step outside the realm of tf2 content you're competing with some of the biggest tubers on the platform for an audience and that's a bold move. Best way to succeed in this day in age is to fill a niche and/or have high quality content.

I really don't mind if a youtuber I watch for a specific type of content starts making variety content, as long as they don't blame the community of that specific type of content for not watching their variety content. It's just dumb imo. Makes any subscriber of theirs that enjoys that specific type of content that may possibly enjoy their variety content turned off by them putting the blame on the community of that niche (I should have just called it that from the beginning) because their variety content is not doing as well as the type of content their subscribers are used to watching.

  • @Goodroosters
    @Goodroosters 3 роки тому

I think one thing I see a lot is a lot of negativity on both sides. The viewers get unnecessarily angry/passive aggressive with the content creator for moving away from UA-cam. But, at the same time, many TF2 UA-camrs (or just any content genre specific ones) will put an unnecessary amount of responsibility on their following. Like you can't really blame people for expecting TF2 content from you when that's pretty much all you do, and often times people will get burnt out immediately when they try and break out of their shell and blame it on their subscribers for not watching the content they didn't subscribe for. When you brand yourself around a certain thing, you have to know ahead of time that it is going to take a long time (possibly years) to separate yourself from that content. I think the core mistake is that people think they get views for their personality, and while that's true half if not more of the reasons why people get views is because *what* they talk about.

Among us is a cheap way of becoming more trending. Rise above this game that has been ruined by new bad players because of its simplistic gameplay

I didn't watch the Fsoas video that he griped about tanking in views because I'm not interested in a Pokemon rom hack nuzlocke. I don't even play TF2 anymore, and just stick with some content creators who put out TF2 stuff sometime. It rubbed me wrong reading that post, and I feel less inclined towards watching his content as a result afterwards. Jerma was able to pull out of TF2 content without a fuss, hell he's probably more popular now than the TF2 days. Star?...left TF2 on a loud vocal note, and pushed a lot of people away. (not even gonna rant on him shilling OW lol). Anyway! Attitude is everything IMO, and how FSoaS handled it was pretty offputting. Not everyone can be Jerma, but people can afford not to jump to conclusions. Sorry if this a shit take.

    Yeah....you know?
Im sorry Im done with the tf2 content or I mean the 80% youtube content I just want to say that it was funny at the first time but they changed and now is booring and a lot of used jokes, memes, dank and racCiSt memes, blah blah.
My point with all of this is I'm tired of watching the same game / or video every day with the same bad joke, the quality and intention to entertain 99% of the audience except the other 1% .And you guys probably don't understand what I'm talking about but I hope that one day will,
Well I hope you guys have a happy life and that everyone will prosper
Bye. (and is not suicide note)
