  • Cream - Ginger Baker at Royal Albert Hall, London.
    November 26th, 1968
    9 of 11
"Farewell Concert" is the live recording of the Cream's final concert at the Royal Albert Hall on November 26th, 1968.
Directed by Tony Palmer, the film incorporates pieces of six performances with narration by BBC announcer Patrick Allen, along with interviews with the band members themselves, showcasing their playing abilities.
The film has often been criticized for both its mediocre sound and visual effects.
In 2005, a special extended edition of the concert appeared featuring full versions of all songs separated from the narration and interviews. The new version featured digitally remastered sound and video including three bonus songs.

One of the very few drummers to successfully meld jazz, African rhythms and rock.
    May he rest in peace.

Baker still is a jazz player, even through his rock days. All those fills he used in and beyond 'Cream" are more or less jazz. Love his mixture odd time signatures with the regular beat which is what made Cream interesting.

If anyone knows anything about Ginger, is that he was heavily influenced by African drummers, who play to a very different time signature than their western counterparts. Ginger spent a lot of time in Africa during the 70s, so as a drummer of phenomenal talent , it was inevitable that he would absorb the differing rhythms played there. Gingers drumming initially was that of a jazz drummer, but somehow morphed into something very different when he played with Cream. Ginger was truly a very gifted drummer.

Ali Rafatjah no, not a psychopath. Not even close. He acts honestly, which is what most people don't do in societies. If he's angry, he is totally 100% angry and doesn't hold a thing back. Most people suppress their anger and are rarely total in anything. That's why we respect Ginger, there is no guessing with him, what you get is all there is. That's why he is such an amazing drummer.

Nice comment, I read some mean comments about Baker like their glad he is sick & he can no longer play. The thing is also is everyone believes the media & don't know why situations take place. Mr. Peter Edward Baker is, was & will always be respected by drummers. Everyone has their flaws & Baker's flaws are not his drumming.

My absolute favorite! It's amazing that even before delving into Cream I was always a fan of Keith Moon and the notion of sporadic rhythm and almost melodic drumming. When I eventually got my hands on the Cream albums, his drumming style was almost "too good to be true." Baker's style is right up my alley and I totally admire his drumming, it has given me such a better sense of "vision" behind the drum set (especially when jamming out and being able to keep the melody going through my drumming while a guitarist takes a solo).
No point even naming my favorite tracks to drum to, but for starters: Swlabr, White Room, and Tales of Brave Ulysses are tracks that I love to CRANK over my speakers and just rock the eff out to!

Ginger influenced all who came after...and invented so much of what simply hadnt existed in the form that came before....world beat , jazz traditions into a wider dynamic range.....like Tony , Steve, Buddy, Elvin , Carmine, Lenny, Sly, Neil, and Ringo.....he offered new style and form and sound....language just breaks down in describing the superlatives.....just listen to records and live performances before Ginger and then after.....one then might come closer to understanding the difference.

+Some One BS! it depends on ones health.. if you have a strong immune system you can get away with it for awhile but you have to stop once you feel your system starts to feel tired and weak which is why Clapton Richards and few others have survived.. others like Keith Moon Andy Gibb Gary Thain and others had weak systems at such early stage in their short lives.. Keith's was aggravated by taking way too many pills which weakened his heart and it was exacerbated by the anti alcoholic pills which killed him Like Keith, Gary Thain also took way too much of just about anything that he could get his grubby hands on to get him high and that also weakened his system and his body couldn't take it anymore and ended his life too early at age 27.. Andy Gibb also was in a similar way taking too much cocaine that weakened his heart and he died from a heart attack so early at the age of 30.. Same goes for Paul Kossoff who took too much and his heart stopped while flying on a plane at ripe age of 25... Those are just a few examples that contradicts that wild theory of yours...BUT understand this.. NOBODY ever takes an extreme amount of drugs throughout their entire lives and make it all the way to old age which is impossible.. I dare ya to name one person who has done just that and If there ever was one.. He wouldn't be human to begin with

Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood both still do cocaine and they admit it. So does Ozzy.

Some One BULLSHIT all 3 have quit many years ago theres no WAY they would be alive this long.. you THINK they are still on drugs but in reality you are DEAD wrong!! They still do drink on occasion but THATS IT! Show me the article or clip where you CLAIM they admit they are still doing it..

Another S. O. B. but the best - Buddy Rich

Buddy Rich? There's only so many single stroke rolls I can handle. Sure, he had probably the best technique of all time and he's one of the fastest players of all time, but Ginger's playing is so much more interesting and colourful, he shits on Buddy in my opinion.

Just needs a third hand to hold a cocktail, which of course he wouldn't spill. While playing and talking and having a smoke.
    Incredible.
