- This video contains some views of Lake George and area, from the late 1940's / early 1950's that my grandfather (Durrancy Cecil Merrick) took with his 8MM camera. Included is some footage of my mom (Barbara) and my aunt (Edith) as teenagers, and my grand parents (Cecil and Teal Merrick). There are some shots of their Summer cottage on Bloody Pond Road, as well as some other areas around Lake George. There is some footage of the Dufour's house, and I believe Marcia Dufour Hastings is in this. There is even a clip of me, at age 1, with my first time at Lake George .. walking on the dock (or was it walking the plank?). If anyone remembers the local white-bearded character "Al Merrick" (my grandfather's relative - or "Uncle Al" as we all knew him) I believe there are some clips of him in this video. Hope you enjoy.
These are very cool movies. Thanks for posting. As a child in the 50's, I spent my summers up there on my grandfather's little island. It was amazing. We just had a small generator for lights; there was nothing else electric. But I never remember being bored. When the sun set, it would make, what looked like, a golden path on the lake. And the water was so clear -and cold. A magical memory.
Glad you enjoyed!! I was up on the lake this past Monday on my boat ... I never grow tired of this place ... it is my place of peace on Earth. I have great memories of my family's trips there and staying with my grand parents. It is a magical place!!
very nice
Glad you enjoyed ... Lake George has always been a special place for me ... several generations past the ones in this movie!!
Really interesting seeing home movies from a time we never experienced. Cool presentation. ;-)
8:13 The blonde girl makes me think of my cousin Becky. :-)
Most of my grandfather's films were taken a few years before I was born ... the blonde girl was my mom and aunt's cousin. They all lived in NJ most of the year, but spent Summers at Lake George at my grandfather's cottage there. I know my mom always talks about how nice it was to be in Lake George at that time. I wished I could have experienced it then. Glad you enjoyed.

Hey Tom, I loved my Connie ... but sold it over a year ago, due to too many close calls with car drivers who aren't paying attention. I'd been riding since I was 16, and am now 64. I figure I've been lucky all these years .... but after two near misses within the same day Summer before last, I decided to give it up. But I did love the Connie ... just gotta respect it's power and don't push it to extreme. Enjoy the ride and stay safe!!
sorry I'm from ROCHESTER N Y
Ah, I'm now in a suburb of Albany, NY .... have friends in Rochester area.
