I am, however enjoying a happy, late marriage to a warm, delightful man who appreciates me, as I do him. We married when I was 58, BTW.We plan to relocate to his former home city - New Orleans where I will be advocating for youth at risk. Meantime, on an almost daily basis I see people under 30 who cannot write, much less string together a coherent sentence. They do not read (well, just texts!). And they have zero interest in anything except their evening's dinner plans. To the over 50's out there - hang in..we are needed... if only to coach these whippersnappers on their dreadful spelling!!

These shows never discuss the side hustle. If you are 50 and still making the same money from 20 years ago, look into doing something on the side (cleaning homes, riding people to work, making baked goods, making candles, teaching a skill like sewing, renting out a room, etc). Many young earners need a tax preparer. An ad in the paper or Facebook will do wonders when you're consistent. It saved me lots of money and time by finding things i can do on my own.
You cant make very good money doing cleaning or candles , if your over 50 go where theres an industry that needs people badly In fact they hire over 50 everyday Even over 60 even 70 year olds And after a few years of experience you can make 70 to 100 thousand a year ! I'm talking about the truck driving industry, older drivers are retiring fast and the new milineals are not willing to work these kinds of jobs , so they really do need drivers now , it's a great career and just in the past few years the pay has doubled , all you need to do is find a good school , financial aid really is available , you just pay back your student loan after you get hired , once you learn how to drive an 18 wheeler its lots of fun out there , so go where you are needed and go to an industry where older people are welcome and respected, you can become a truck driver , America's number one job !! I did it , you can too

I read a stat recently that over 50% of Americans have been fired at "least once" in their career. And they are talking about '"fired" specifically, not "laid off". So its much more common then allot of people may realize.
I was "fired" from my previous job because they claimed that they were eliminating my position. 2 days (yes, days) later, they hired a man 20 years younger than me who knew absolutely nothing about the job and to this day is incapable of performing the needed tasks without help from others. He was sent from the company that had purchased the company I worked for. That parent company has a reputation for eliminating anyone over the age of 50 unless they are upper management. The team I managed has had over 100% turnover since I left because everyone hates working for this fool. He takes at least 3 days a month off and has a reputation for coming in late and leaving early. He has a lock on the job because he is a friend of someone in management at the parent company. The company has lost tens of thousands of dollars in revenue because this fool is incapable of doing the job. How many times have we seen or heard of things like this? Nepotism, Agism, Sexism, and discrimination based on religion. Almost all of these are impossible to prove unless someone made the mistake of writing it down and sending it to you as a part of your termination. NOTHING has gotten better over the years. It used to be that there was some sort of loyalty between employer and employee. These days, you are just used toilet paper to be flushed away.
I'm a 52 year old firefighter medic who wants to retire early, because I'm not happy with my job after 17 years. I'm finding it hard to find something that will pay the same until I can collect my pension at 55. I definately want out of the current field I'm in now. Is it possible to start a second career at this point in my life?
My mom became a "coder" after being a federal accountant for any agency for 25 yrs. She was 50 when she took early retirement. She move to Raleigh. She took one of those 1 yr tech camps. Now she makes 100k and livings in a upscale downtown condo.
The "hardwiring" exists across all generations. At the stages of maturity, we are interior in our focus. At the beginning of our careers, people look outward, judging and "othering", by Age in particular, etc., etc. There is no proving these truths, there is ON L Y living into them, until wisdom becomes broadly valued across the entire human cultural spectrum.
I have to be a stickler, but people in their 50's are not Boomers. The youngest boomers are in their mid to late 60's right now. Gen X is in their late 40's and 50's.

I got hired by an engineering firm because, having worked out well as a temp through an agency, I stopped in nearly every morning about 10:00. Often, I was was hired on the spot directly through a supervisor because this or that person failed to show up or called in sick after the work day started. I was officially hired six months after the temp agency first sent me there.

So how does a person transition from a dead end job in customer service and b? Get out of that and show showcase their skill set, even though they might have an advanced degree like a master's in business administration. Or even maybe they just have a bachelor's. In business administration, employers don't want to see that they don't care. It seems like all they care about is. Do you have a high school graduation? Are you breathing and are you under twenty five And there's something else happening right now. In the market too, it's almost as if if you're too young, they don't want Gen. Z, and if you're too old like, if you're over forty five, they don't want you, so are you telling me you have to be somewhere between the ages of. 30 - 39 to get a job? Because I'm hearing a lot of stuff about Gen. Z cannot get jobs and nobody wants to hire Gen. Z at all at all, at all at all. Is this true or is this? Is this just hype? It's just stuff that's people are making up things
Absolutely! Same way a thief or scam artist is the best advisor on how to prevent getting robbed. An online hacker can advise on cybersecurity measures much better than an educated security expert. A person who is poor likely knows how to best source items for the cheapest prices, etc. You need to know the negatives of every situation in order to truly guide others. If all you understand are the upsides, your advice will be lopsided/impractical. There are always at least 2 sides to true knowledge.
Many of those people are uneducated. I know plenty of older folks that have found job after being unemployed.... You just have to work harder AND smarter....Attitude is everything. If you THINK you are too old, then guess what, you probably are...

Boomers were imvolved in the 60s protest generation etc. I know people say boomers were born as late as 64, but they have nothing in commom with the people born in 45. Any real boomer was at least retired age the time of this video. 1964 is already almost generation x. Generation x is vastly different. And there were a lot of people in between.
The solution to the American unemployment lies here in our country. Take my advise, stop giving them jobs and visas. Majority of them working there are not properly qualified or do not have proper documents. They are on par with the Mexicans. Stop outsourcing your jobs also to our country because qualified professionals here are not getting those jobs who have experience and additional training. Our govt is dependent on outsourced jobs and it goes to their party workers or to the caste that they want to appease. Be they in the private or govt sector. Using the reservation policy for their political ascent they are destroying our job prospects here and also at the same time destroying our chance of immigrating . Such immigration benefits are reserved for the elite few here. Check out the standard of our universities and professional colleges here, from where our work force immigrate to USA. Most of them are substandard, unrecognized by the govt and with no skills to be learned from. Many do not exist at all. But they make it offshore and succeed due to their advanced position in our society. Pressurise our govt to take care of our employment needs instead of sending "professionals" to chase and seize aliens in your country. Scrutinize thoroughly the credentials of our work force reaching there. They are from our point of view social cheaters.
