I read story where one of the characters proposed with a dagger as a joke because there partner was a weapons nut she was so happy she ran off excited and the other stood there thinking "That worked? What am I supposed to do with this?" while looking at an engagement ring later the dagger saved their lives when a monster caught them off guard
Maybe instead of twelve thousand scenes with the utterly boring Charmings, we could have actually SEEN Regina give Belle the dagger? That would have been a powerful scene for Belle and Regina.
This scene would have been so much better if the writers hadn't made Rumple ruin it within the first five minutes. I mean, he proposed with the FREAKING DAGGER, and in the end it wasn't even real. Granted, I understand why he wanted Zelena dead and I don't blame him. She mentally and physically tortured him for half a season. That's some serious motive. And interestingly enough, if you pay attention you realize that Rumple never actually promised not to go after Zelena. But still... he screwed up again, and although he pledged to his son in the beginning of season four that he would really try his best, he fell off the wagon almost immediately. I mean, like, within that episode. You would think the writers would have at least done Rumple's character the service of giving him a few episodes TRYING to be a better man, even if it was obviously futile... but no, apparently not, lol. Still, this is a really sweet moment. I wish we had more of them :)
Supreme Overlorde I agree so hard with everything you said. I know network shows don’t have the luxury of building arcs because they might be canceled, but I can’t help feeling they rushed Belle and Rumple getting together. If they had played the long game they could have let Rumple be evil and tortured and ambiguous for 5 seasons and then given him a long-awaited, actually earned and deserved and believable happy ending. They wrote a beautiful character and cast the perfect actor, and then treated them both like they were in a soap opera.
Rumple should've gotten down on one knee, and to add dramatic irony, onto the knee that's not his crippled leg, symbolizing that he is still afraid of being hurt.
Belle never should have accepted the dagger, the gesture being enough to prove his loyalty. Have his shadow hide it so it wouldn't be close at hand. Then the writers could have gotten on with their lives together instead of spending three years assassinating his character.
To be fair Hook is like three hundred years older than Emma, and Rumple is really a few hundred older than Belle- and come to think of it so was Neil with Emma, so a lot of the relationships on this show are very Gilbert and Sullivan...
Who wants an engagement ring, I want an engagement dagger.

He's 53, 20 year age gap. They're both consenting adults though, so there's nothing wrong with it.
