Was looking for a quicker setup (plus clubs use CDJ's around here) so picked up a CDJ-850-K earlier this year, amazing bit of gear! Like you, I am a turntable kind of guy, but I just ordered my second CDJ with the Mail-In Rebate deal Pioneer has going on, cannot wait and also no more instant double DJing with one deck haha. Great video and great bit of gear, wish this video was up before I bought mine because I was wary at first and was not sure if I wanted to invest or not, but I am glad I did!
Hi, nice vid :) You mention a lot about when using the SL Control CDs of not having a cue or the ability to sample or calc. BPMs or loops, but I have a Rane 57SL mixer & you can do all of that with the mixer. I thought the A&H DB04 had similar functions to control such stuff? :) [I'm not that rich that I can afford an A&H Mixer myself ;) ]
I should've bought these instead of the crap denon 3700 that I did. Not only crap product but the worse customer service in the industry . Thanks for sharing todd.
Hey buddy great video. Everything works fine except on my cdj-850's the time and the vinyl wheel are jagged. Like they play pause au pause even though the sound is still good. Any suggestions?
im having some problems. I use HID with my mbp sl3 with 2.4.2 and cdj 2000s. Everything works good with the USB hub that im using. But when i use it with my bos's setup (cdj 850). It's not as smooth the cdj wheel rotator is all choppy! would you know why?
I have sent u a message I don't know if you got it but I just started usein the cdj 2000s with sl2 they USB all works and connects fine but sometimes when pitch bendin the track will jump with the slightest touch?? Y is this?? Also u said u don't need the phono cables into the sl2 box do u need a mixer with USB or will that work with any mixer as I'm usein the pioneer 800?? Thanks
You mention that the pitch moves in 0.01%,0.02% and sometimes 0.03% increments. Don't you find this lack of consistency messes up your mixes? When I tried mixing in HID mode it really annoyed me how long it took to zone in on the pitch I wanted as I would overshoot and then undershoot my desired pitch value. When using timecode CDs I can hit my desired pitch value without any such hassle. Is there a trick I'm missing that would help me cope with this issue?
Or you can just hook up the USB cable to one CDJ, run the LAN line link to the other one and put it in link mode so you're only using one USB for your CDJs. I do not own a pair of CDJs so I do not know which models have this feature available though.
Has nothing to do with power supplies on the devices. Most laptops (at least Macs) only have two USB ports, and the SL souncard box HAS to plugged into the port directly on the computer. So, you'll need to use a USB Hub for the CDJs (if you're using two) on the other port. USB ports can only supply a limited amount of current to the hub, which than has to be split between all the devices connected to the hub. Therefore, it's best to use a powered USB hub that supplies a full and steady current.
If i buy 2 cdj 850s and a djm 250 analogue mixer to use with serato do i need a sl box or can i use ssl with the cdj's and djm without the sl box or do i still need one even though the cdj 850
Friend'm having some legs in the middle of the cdj 850 display already put some versions but this leg ta stalking me here does not affect anything but the audio delay in the display that looks like it will give some cock in the sound would know already that it can be I have done well to say all the songs are all grateful analyzed.
Hold the auto cue button so that it appears on the screen (a.cue) then you have to choose a song again, the next song on that deck will not play till you start it. When you press cue, it will go back to the starting point. 5 years late but maybe it helps someone now
I have 2 cdj 850's a Rane 62 on a Macbook. Been using native mode for a while and for some reason all of a sudden the music stops and a message appears saying I need to restart my cpu.... Read the message appears and it says something about the usb. So i rearrange the order in which the usb's are plugged into the hub and it work for a few weeks then crashed again.....HELP!!
Thanks for the knowledge, personally looking to get CDJ's as well! Regarding the connection to the Rane SL2 Box, 2 CDJ's, using a Macbook Pro Laptop with only 2 USB ports A solution to this issue of limited USB ports, you are suggesting is to get a powered USB Hub With the powered USB Hub, you can instead plug the 2 CDJ's directly into the USB Hub, and then connect the USB hub to your laptop. This leaves you with 1 remaining USB port on the Macbook Pro laptop, which you will use to connect the laptop to the Rane SL2 Box Would that be a correct understanding of your solution? When I play my rane 3 and pioneers at home on my HP laptop, there's no problem. However, when I play at an event, and louder, after 1 or 2 hours tge scratch lives freezes when using the usb port. Is there a certain way to plug in the usbs or is it a power issue? I've updated my pioneers and that hasn't helped
Straightforward and simple instruction. Answered so many questions that I was too embarrassed to ask my CDJ friends. Thanks a lot --OG 1200 guy
Thanks alot for this! Btw I also play the At Les Hypnotica remix now and then. Loved to see you having it in your playlist!
I have been looking for a vid on this and you have made it thanks a lot amigo. Good stuff!

Hi Todd, I was wondering if you knew whether the cdj 850's support cue points in HID mode with serato?
I should've bought these instead of the crap denon 3700 that I did.
Not only crap product but the worse customer service in the industry .
Thanks for sharing todd.
Do i need a traktor audio box if i use the cdj 850's with Traktor or just plug in and go
Hey buddy great video. Everything works fine except on my cdj-850's the time and the vinyl wheel are jagged. Like they play pause au pause even though the sound is still good. Any suggestions?
Never needed the power cord for my belkin 4 port USB hub even when having 2 CDJs and a Kontrol X1 connected, using a Macbook Pro 15" (2007)...
Why only a powered USB hub? Just curious as the CDJs are self powered.

WHAT ABOUT IF YOU WANT TO USE HOT CUE POINTS. CON U MAPP THEM? INSTED OF THE AUTO LOOP?

The 850s have waveform display. Does the 850 show the waveform in HID mode for serato?
hello sir this setup compatible with sl1?
Do you have to aggregate both CDJ's if you are using a Mac, or will SL recognize the CDJ's independently as two separate MIDI signals??

Could You tell me how to set up Sertao Scratchlive to see the beatgrids.also with Ableton..
In your video the cdj led light is spinning perfectly, mine is all choppy. What did you do to fix this?
"I'm not that rich so I went with a CDJ-850" *pans to SL4 and A&H DB4* lmao probably would do the same tho n spend my money on that DB4. It's beastly.
how would you hook up a second one? thru the cat5/6 cable in the back?
Does the firmware on the cdj 850 have to be updated to use hid mode?
how did you activate the beat grip

How to load a song on my scratch live by the keyboard
does the quick return function work in hid mode?
Hi Todd, Question? Why Would you Need a (Powered Usb Hub) if the MacBook pro and cdj 850 or serato box Already has it own power supplies?
Has nothing to do with power supplies on the devices. Most laptops (at least Macs) only have two USB ports, and the SL souncard box HAS to plugged into the port directly on the computer. Thanks for the knowledge, personally looking to get CDJ's as well!
Regarding the connection to the Rane SL2 Box, 2 CDJ's, using a Macbook Pro Laptop with only 2 USB ports
A solution to this issue of limited USB ports, you are suggesting is to get a powered USB Hub
With the powered USB Hub, you can instead plug the 2 CDJ's directly into the USB Hub, and then connect the USB hub to your laptop. This leaves you with 1 remaining USB port on the Macbook Pro laptop, which you will use to connect the laptop to the Rane SL2 Box
