My great grandpa Benjamin DaSilva was part Hawaiian and Portuguese obviously.. born in Honolulu.. moved to mainland and never looked back.. he was other things as well.. my 3rd great grandfather was from Guam he alone was mixed.. Spanish chamorran Nigerian indigenous mexican.. my 2nd great grandmother Mary kauihanohano luahiwa Nicholas was born Koloa kauai yet was buried in riverside california.. I find it funny that even being Hawaiian you should know we all came to Hawaii.. I don't understand the attachment.. it's in our blood to travel and make home in other places.. sorry but you ain't being priced out of Hawaii your standards have just changed.. there's still plenty of cheap land.. I went from homeless to landowner. If I can what's your excuse.. I'm only 3% Hawaiian.. I don't even get access to Hawaiian home lands or other privileges afforded to native hawaiians.. stop making excuses for selling out rather than sticking it out. Take some pride in your decisions.. you chose to move to vegas.. you call yourself Kanaka but let's get real.. how many 100% native Hawaiians are there in the islands still? Get your DNA tested because I'm guessing you ain't just kanaka.. you probably english or Portuguese or philipino or japanese whatever.. people should actually represent..

"This is not our aina...". I felt that every single day while living on the mainland for a decade. Moved back to HI during covd lockdown. Never moving again. Must hold ourselves and our elected officials accountable for selling out HI to the highest outside bidders.

I feel this so much. I know when I was little I felt so confused when moving to the mainland. Things were just done differently and I think it was a culture shock to me but I have to say moving to the mainland was the best thing for my family as we were suffering in poverty with both parents working multiple jobs and being with my mom watching her working at the swap meet from morning to close. Moving to the mainland was able to give us a sense of stability and a house which was something new to us. Luckily Vegas has a big Hawaiian community. I pray for their family to prosper. ❤️
