Glad I'm not the only one that was bothered by this. I have heard Tom Cochrane live multiple times and hearing him singing it live is kick ass. I will always take Tom's version over Rascal Flatts
How are the Proclaimers not on here? I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) is iconic for having a chorus that goes so hard everyone knows it paired with verses that nobody does.

"Joy To The World", "Piano Man", "I Love Rock And Roll", "We Are The Champions", "We Are Family", "American Pie", "Dancing Queen", "If You Want My Body", "Benny And The Jets", "Old Time Rock And Roll"."Girls Just Want To Have Fun".
Cool list! I would say "Dancing Queen" belongs here more than "Mamma Mia". Also, the original "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane should've been shown. Finally, I agree with the earlier post that Steve Perry, not his imposter, should've been shown.
"Mr Brightside" is insanely catchy, especially the chorus, though the lyrics are about a man seeing his girlfriend cheat on him. Younger me was totally oblivious.
For me nothing will ever hit harder than Alanis Morissette You Oughta Know, especially the live version with Taylor Hawkins on drums and Chris Chaney on bass. The way Alanis is spitting venom with her lyrics and you truly feel her raw emotions like anger, sadness and how hurt she was through the lyrics and voice is so powerful. As a 17 year old girl I had never heard anything like it and I could barely speak English at the time but I knew that it spoke to me and I knew I needed to know more. Now it's 30 years later I have a bachelors degree in music production and Alanis has been a huge inspiration for me through my musical journey. Jagged Little Pill is still one of the best albums to ever have been recorded and released.
@@kandykane3265 you're absolutely right about that. The chorus just elevates the song to another level. I honestly felt like I had been sucker punched in my face hearing it for the first time. In a good way ofc.
It would have been nice to have at least mentioned Tom Cochrane for Life is a Highway even if the intended version for this list was the Rascal Flatts cover
“Life Is a Highway” was not a Rascal Flatts song to begin with. It was originally written and performed by Tom Cochrane; RF popularized it in the original Cars film.
Was that the only explanation of Hotel California that YT would let you get away with without getting demonitised, kudos to you for managing to read that without a hint of laughter in your voice 👍
@@MsMojo Thanks. You have lots to work with. I'm sure that you could do top 20s by genre if you wanted to, but goth is such a broad term you could make the list pretty eclectic
I'm sorry but Pat Steward playing the drums with that type of drive and his sound of snare is a key factor that Summer of 69 has that feeling to it. Sure, the guitars, the song and the lyrics are important, but those drums are why you feel it in your whole body.
Do top "songs with best background vocals" Like Stevie Nick's sings background to Christine McVee in Lies. Michael McDonald to Christopher Cross in Ride Like the Wind.
A couple other memorable choruses are Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Beck's Loser. I mean "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me (get crazy with the cheese whiz.)
She Loves You, Billie Jean and (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction are maybe the greatest substitute in list history. Also, number 1 doesn't have a chorus as it doesnt follownthe definition of a chorus, it has what you correctly called a climax. Choruses have to repeat DURING a song. Or else Na na na na na na na on Hey Jude is a chorus. And if it is,) a chorus, how the hell isn't it in this list?
Rocket Man is NOT about an astronaut. It's a metaphor used to describe addiction and the consequences of being separated from your spouse, and having to live in a dark place.

That's NOT Steve Perry by the way singing "Don't Stop Believing" that is the singer who replaced him as the lead singer of Journey and that's Arnel Pineda.

I actually feel her music to be .. distant. While a solid singer, Taylor is not a powerful vocalist. A lot of strong choruses are pushed by vocal power, Beyoncé, Whitney, Elvis and added vocal layering. Taylor’s voice just does not hold up. Because her voice is small and thin, she cannot support the loud and powerful instrument arrangements as it would bury her voice. So you cannot do this massive right ringing choruses on her songs. Taylor covers can improve things …
You're Canadian and you say Life Is A Highway is by whatever a "Rascal Flatts" is? Oh, it's a crap cover version from an animated film? Eww. Justice for Tom Cochrane!

Literally criminal.

@@Crazychick64 yes, #1 was Don't Stop Believing

Titanium. Hurts So Good. You Shook Me All Night Long. Harden My Heart. I Love Rock-n-Roll.

Rascal Flatts covered “Life is a Highway” from Tom Cochrane. It was a hit before they recorded it.
This! I like Rascal Flatts' version, but the Tom Cochrane version has a special place in my soul from my youth.
Glad I'm not the only one that was bothered by this. I have heard Tom Cochrane live multiple times and hearing him singing it live is kick ass. I will always take Tom's version over Rascal Flatts
And Chris LeDoux covered it before Rascal Flatts
... except for some minor instrumentation changes, it's not like Rascal Flats did a whole lot different from Tom Cohrane's version either.
Tom Cochrane is played daily here. I would never consider giving credit to Rascal Flatts for their straight cover.
Great list. Personally Queen deserves an entire list of their own regarding songs (be it chorus, guitar riffs, etc) that didn't have to go that hard.

I think «We will rock you» by Qeen should be on this list..
*80s rocks songs just hit different.*
"Carry on Wayward Son" from Kansas. If I have to explain, you need to listen to the track.
Bless you for including my favorite band BOSTON in this list. RIP Brad Delp. We miss you, sir.
Cool list! I would say "Dancing Queen" belongs here more than "Mamma Mia". Also, the original "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane should've been shown. Finally, I agree with the earlier post that Steve Perry, not his imposter, should've been shown.
Obviously you could put any number of songs on this list - but my most obvious omission is Bring Me To Life from Evanescence…
As the list progressed and it still wasn't there, "Don't Stop Believin''" at #1 was a given. Great list!
Chandelier. Happy saturday afternoon, Rebecca. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
Not including Steve Perry for Don't Stop Believin' is downright outrageous. He’s the heart and soul of that iconic song!
Bohemian Rhapsody is not even on this list, while a LOT of people think it's one of the best songs ever and has an insanely catchy chorus.
It does NOT have a chorus. Famously.
"Take on Me" by AH Ha
Great song but the chorus doesn't hit near as hard as any of these songs
"Mr Brightside" is insanely catchy, especially the chorus, though the lyrics are about a man seeing his girlfriend cheat on him. Younger me was totally oblivious.
great list of songs.
What a fantastic vid...thank you!!!🥰
Eddie Money's two biggest hits should be on here ("two tickets to paradise", "take me home tonight")
Mind you I haven't finished watching the video...

Sweet Caroline, everyone says da da da and so good whenever it plays
I still say Wilson Phillips Hold On . Also Bee Gees Staying Alive
"Summer of '69" has nothing to do with the year 1969!
And Hotel California isn't about a hotel

Christina Perri - Human
Sia - Bird Set Free

Nicki Minaj's Super Bass should have been mentioned. It's got a great chorus.

Taylor Swift All Too Well should’ve been on the list! There’s a reason it’s a fan favorite
Toxic by Britney Spears I need to control myself everytime it comes on
Where's Thriller by Michael Jackson!?!?!?!?
