Andre Black Nerd Review of Paddington and Paddington 2. Black Nerd Review of Paddington 2 and the original Paddington movie and how they are adaptations and reboots of nostalgia done right by being new and modern while still being respectful to the original Paddington Bear franchise. Paddington 2 stars Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington Bear, Hugh Bonneville as Mr. Brown, Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown, Julie Walters as Mrs. Bird, Jim Broadbent as Mr. Gruber, Peter Capaldi as Mr. Curry, Brendan Gleeson as Knuckles, and Hugh Grant as Phoenix Buchanan. The first Paddington movie featured Nicole Kidman as Millicent.

The paddington movies are so good. I like how these movies are true Family films they don’t dumb things down for children or try to make the movie hip with characters rapping. And the movies have so much charm. I hope they make a paddington 3.

A lot of advertisements I don't even notice, a good example is the power rangers movie. I didn't know there were any Crusty Cremes (if that is what it's called) product placements in it until I watched Cinema Sins because we don't have those in Canada.

I never grew up with Paddington, but from the reviews it is a movie that respects it's source material and doesn't treat it's target audience as dumb. Also it turns 60 years old this year, it's sad that it's creator couldn't live to celebrate but he will always be in our hearts. And I am glad he created a series that all people can enjoy.

+Nathaniel Foga They just needed to trust the source material and do their best to bring it to life on the screen. It also helps if they have a stronger creative vision for how it should turn out than just "we need butts in seats and merchandise sold!" Sounds like both movies were a labor of love for everyone involved. :)

Slightly off topic, but I giggled uncontrolably at the Peter Rabbit-trailer, just because I hadn't known Domnhall Gleeson was in it, and all I could see was General Hux chasing rabbits. That probably wouldn't be enough to make me enjoy a full length movie, though.

I saw it yesterday and it was so, so delightful! I'd say it's even better than the (still great) first Paddington, in part because of Hugh Grant but I also loved how it doubles down on the "Paddington as immigrant" subtext and reaffirms messages of inclusiveness, the power and kindness and how letting other people into your lives can make things better.

These movies are so delightful! My only nitpick/criticism is that it seemed like Peter Capaldi's character in the first movie seemed like he was changing his opinion on Paddington. But in the second, he's back to being his prejudiced self...? I watched the first movie about a week before seeing the second, so I don't think I'm mistaken...?

One final thing - the first movie features a cameo of Paddington's creator, Michael Bond (may be rest in peace) as the "Kindly Gentleman" who gives him some help at the start of the movie. It's probably easy to miss if you don't know who he is, but it's a sweet moment - a testament to his appreciation for the film that encapsulated the essence of his works so beautifully...

I went in wanting to dislike both but found I could not. The visuals were stunning and creative. The color choice throughout both films was phenomenal. With no sound they would be good just to look at. Even moments where I knew what would happen they found a way to surprise me or do it creatively so I didn’t mind. Plus the cast was wonderful. Probably my favorite thing was how well they all portrayed genuine kindness. Paddington was naive but never dumb and his polite kindness always broke through in every situation. This is the kind of movie families need. One with no agenda other than to tell a good story.
    Great review! Great movies!

I just (June 2022) discovered Paddington. It never caught my eye because I don’t usually watch children’s movies and I had no small kids in my life then or right now. But Yt’s algorithm put a clip for me, maybe because I watched the Jubilee clip of Paddington having tea with the queen. The scene was when he meets the Browns for the first time. I found it so touching that I decided to watch the whole thing on Netflix. Oh gods, what I have been missing all these years. A charming, funny, intelligent movie, and as you said, it you feel like crap, go watch Paddington and you’ll feel better. Then I watched 2, and now I have plans for the weekend: Paddington back to back. For me one of the smartest decisions the director took (among the many) was to make a talking bear the most normal thing on earth that never raises questions or has to be explained. It’s the magic of childhood in a nutshell, when talking bears are accepted without a single eyebrow raised. Brilliant!

I really like the 2009 Speed Racer movie. Even though it’s got more CGI than the Star Wars prequels And is very unrealistic, a lot of the races are somewhat entertaining. ESPECIALLY the desert and arctic race in the middle! That race is the best part of the movie (mostly because it’s the only race with the Mach 5). After I found out the movie bombed I thought that Speed Racer was dead. But then Steven Spielberg gifted my eyes with the Mach 5 in the 2nd Ready Player One trailer! I didn’t really grow up when the cartoon originally aired, but my dad saw reruns of it when he was a kid and passed down that to me! I just want to see a Speed Racer movie that plays like Cars and Cars 3. I also like Thomas and the Magic Railroad but from what I’ve seen, that movie is The Titanic compared to what’s coming for Thomas and Friends! God I’m such a nerdy man-child!

    • @DoveJS
      @DoveJS 6 років тому

+Rampaging Elephant That Speed Racer movie was surprisingly excellent. My favorite part was the fight with the assassin in the family's hotel room though... haha, and of course the background scenes explaining dad's mistakes with big bro and how he was inspired to do what he loved again after he sunk into depression. I think people got thrown by the super vibrant and saturated color palette in a live action movie (it was basically a live-action cartoon with much better directing than the prequels ever got), plus I'm not sure how big the original fandom was or if they were prepared for a movie at all. It starts off really cheesy but if you give into the wackiness of the world, it'll repay you with higher stakes and more heart and ferocity than you might've expected on the outset. Not perfect but more depth than it lets on. And the racing was exciting! It could seem trite if you can't get past the style though. :)

It is everything you want in a family movie with laughter for both the kids and adults. It respects it's audience and never goes for the low grade humor most of these movie go for. And you just love all the characters so much. The movie just gave me a smile all the way through.

Basically, the idea for Paddington Bear was originally supposed to be set from Darkest Africa. However, it did not happen. Because Mr. Bond knew that if the book took place in South London, the Bear should have been voiced by a Black Man.

You just need to be in the mood for some gentle whimsy and cuteness, but if you're still hesitant, maybe it's not your type of movie and there's nothing wrong with that. :)

When I was little I used to watch that Pinwheel show when Nickelodeon first come on, and of course I watched Paddington Bear, so I was very weary when I saw that they made a live action film. I'm glad it turned out better then I feared. haven't watch #2 yet but I'm looking forward to it!!

As a child, I was always super impressed with how movies, particularly animated ones, could tell stories in fun and creative ways and essential make something out of nothing. From that I wanted to pursue a career in film, especially kids films, to kind of give back to the next generation what I got out of them. As I grew older, I became frustrated with the lack of imagination and corporate overtones in kids films and began to doubt if that was something I really wanted to get into. The first Paddington movie resparked that drive

Just saw this movie for the first time on Netflix and I loved it. I even shed a few tears in the 3rd act. Beautiful movie, it really is worth the hype.

I watched both of these last Thursday (on Netflix and then in the cinema) I was blown away with how good they were. I went to the cinema purely as a ploy so I could go off to another shop to buy Batman The Animated Series on DVD and ended up having a really good time.

I thought first one was quite enjoyable. I don't really know anything about paddington and I had put my expectation quite low before watching because we all know how cgi talking animal movies can become crap, but it was quite good! I liked the visuals quite a lot. It was quite visually interesting, kind of reminds me of wes anderson movies.

This isn't really something I watched as a kid, but more recently. It's a Canadian cartoon called "Detentionaire". It's about a teenager, Lee Ping, who gets framed for a huge prank on his first day of Sophomore year. You go in thinking it's the Breakfast Club with a little mystery attached, but it ends up being about a worldwide conspiracy theory, with clones, robots, lizard people, brainwashing, it's absolutely insane! All the episodes are on UA-cam too, I think you'd really like it!

I've been avoiding these movies because I thought they were like Peter Rabbit, Garfield, and the NPH Smurfs. Now I kind of want to see them. But don't subject yourself to the new Peter Rabbit - watch the old 2D animated movies/shorts, or that CG show that came out a few years ago.

both of these movies are perfect. at this point, i love 2 a bit more, but i won't quibble over whether one is better than the other. they're both miniature masterpieces chock-full of charm & whimsy.

If felt that issue with the third act but.... besides that this movie is perfect. Everything it does it does great. It has different types of humor, great production design, great acting, great pace. The animation parts are beautiful. There are some references to old movies! This movie is awesome.

I'm happy to hear the Paddington movies are good. I used to love the newer cartoon as a kid and I read a bunch of the books. I'm always super wary about children's book adaptations because somehow they manage to suck the magic out of so many of them (I can already tell from the Peter Rabbit trailer that movie is gonna be soul-sucking), but this sounds like they kept the magic of the books alive and it looks really colourful and fun!!

In terms of classic movies from my childhood, National Treasure is one of my favorites yet almost no one ever talks about it. It even has a rotten tomatoes score of 44%. I will honestly tell you that movie does not deserve that score!
